What to do with extra produce from your garden? • Donate to Bountiful Harvest. On Sundays a table is set up in the downstairs

church foyer for your extra produce. Shop and put a donation in the jar with all proceeds going toward the engine repair of the church truck. The truck is very important to our outreach projects.

• Drop off donations at United Christian Ministries, 191 Skyland Drive, Sylva. Please call 586-8228 for hours of operation.

• Drop off donations at The Community Table, located in the old Golden Age Center between the Sylva Pool and Poteet Park.

Community Table Fundraiser The Community Table will hold a fundraiser on Sept. 30th at Andy Shaw Ford. We need at least 300 people who will agree to test drive one of about 9 new fords. The route will be from the dealership to the high school and back. All you need is to show that you have a valid license. An Andy Shaw employee will accompany all drivers.

Only one member of a household is allowed. We have been assured of a donation of $30.00 per driver and possibly $40.00 from Ford Motors, Andy Shaw Ford and Harrah's. Barbecue and all the trimmings will be provided by Harrah's for a donation of $7.00. We feel sure that this will be our biggest fundraiser ever and we really are struggling to meet the needs of our Jackson County needy. I would like to share our numbers with you for the month June and you can readily see our need for funds. Meals served- 2580. Daily average of 143 dinners. 962 food boxes went to 501 homes where there were 1500 people living in the home. 37% were children. Please let me know if you are willing to participate in out DRIVE AWAY HUNGER fundraiser. Please call me at 631-3106 or e-mail me at [email protected]. You know I will be calling you if you don't. Thank you Linda Fulk

LEAP for the future! Are you interested in volunteering?

Would you like to practice your Spanish or even another language?

How about making a difference right here in Cullowhee?

Come be a volunteer or a helper for the LEAP Program! This is a new afterschool program that targets English language learners from Cullowhee Valley School. The program takes place at Cullowhee United Methodist Church, Mondays-Thursdays from 2:45 – 5:45 during the academic school year for Jackson County Public Schools.

The LEAP Program is looking for volunteers and helpers for the 2015-2016 school year. Volunteers can work with students who need help with homework (math and literacy), as well as English as a Second Language activities. Then, volunteers can either teach students about something they’re interested in during club time, or they can help out LEAP tutors and students during club time. Some clubs that will be on the agenda for the upcoming year: Legos, Drama, Arts & Crafts, Walking, Multicultural, Cooking, Tech, Gymnastics, Crochet, Knitting, Soccer, Gardening, and much more. If you have a specific skill or interest that isn’t listed here, we’d love to hear about it.

There are two ways to help. You can become a LEAP Volunteer and commit to one year of service to the students. Or, if you’re more interested in doing more short-term help, you can sign up to be a LEAP Helper, where you can drop in and help where it’s needed. Regardless if you’re a volunteer or helper, we’d love to have you!

Hours are flexible, but if you are a volunteer, you’ll follow a monthly schedule based on your availability. If you’re a helper, you can drop in and help as you can. Orientation and trainings for volunteers will be in August 2015. Helper orientation will be ongoing, starting in August.

If you’d like to work with students, you’ll want to get a background check done through Jackson County Public Schools.

For more information, get in touch with Cyndi Calhoun, LEAP Program Director at 828-227-3695 or email [email protected]
