The style of this seminar is intensive and includes encounters with people and organizations representing many sectors of Cuban society, as well as opportunities for group reflection, critical analysis, and collective learning. Examples of possible program content: • Walking tour of Habana Vieja (and colonial city center) • Trips to Christian churches, Jewish Synagogue, Muslim Mosque, Greek Orthodox, Santería sites. • Home of José Martí • Art museum and artists’ workshops • University of la Habana • Revolution Museums • UNESCO Slave Route Museum • Slave and Orisha Museum • Varadero Beach • Afro-Cuban drumming group performance • Barrio Chino (Chinatown) • Matanza Evangelical Seminary • San Carlos y Ambrosio Catholic Seminary Complete tentative list available upon request Accommodations: We will stay 8 nights in a modest hotel in La Habana & 2 nights in Matanzas/Varadero Beach in a modest guesthouse for lodging, two or more to a room with shared bathrooms. Your daily meals in Cuba will likely have less variety of foods than you are generally accustomed. Cost: The cost of this travel seminar is $2,860 for a double room/$3,000 for a single room. This includes in- country programming, interpretation, and honoraria for local resource people, all breakfasts and lodging, ground transportation, fees for activities included in the program, and airport exit fee. Any passport fees are additional. Flights to Miami, FL and overnight accommodations are not included. You must plan to arrive on Saturday, June 27 since charters often depart VERY early the next morning. Who Can Attend: (1) a member of the faculty or staff of the Iliff School of Theology; (2) a member of the faculty or staff of DU/Iliff Joint PhD program (3) currently enrolled students of Iliff in a graduate degree program for whom study in Cuba will be accepted for credit toward the degree. Register Now At registration a deposit of $500 is due. The remaining balance can (if student desires) be spread out over ensuing months.
