Computer  Essentials  will  focus  on  basic  computer  skills  and  responsible  computer  use.  Students  will  develop  a  basic  understanding  of  Internet  safety,  ethical  computer  use,  keyboarding,  opening  and  closing  software  files,  accessing  and  saving  to  the  school  server,  copying  and  pasting  files  or  text,  copyright  laws,  and  searching  the  Internet.  This  course  will  cover  basic  and  intermediate  skills  and  shortcuts  using,  but  not  limited  to  the  Adobe,  Microsoft  Office  and  iLife  suites.  This  class  will  not  be  limited  to  the  use  of  computers.  We  will  explore  digital  cameras  and  video  as  well.    Course  will  vary  from  9  to  18  weeks.  A  9-­‐week  course  offering  will  be  introductory.    An  18-­‐week  course  will  explore  content  in  greater  depth.

Exploring  Computer  Applications  will  focus  on  learning  advanced  computer  application  skills  and  tools.  Keyboarding,  Internet  safety,  and  ethical  computer  use,  including  copyright  laws,  will  also  be  components  of  this  class.  Students  will  learn  and  expand  on  practical  uses  for  applications,  which  may  include  the  Adobe  Creative,  Microsoft  Office,  and  the  iLife  suites.  Students  will  use  web-­‐based  applications  and  learn  how  to  responsibly  and  ethically  interact  in  the  web-­‐based  world  through  blogs  and  online  collaborative  tools,  such  as  Google  Docs. The  course  will  vary  from  9  to  18  weeks.    A  9-­‐week  course  offering  will  be  introductory.    An  18-­‐week  course  will  explore  content  in  greater  depth.

Mobile  Apps  1A  is  an  introductory  software  design  &  programming  course  for  mobile  devices.  The  course  starts  with  an  introduction  to  Java  programming  and  how  to  create  basic  Java  applications.  Once  students  have  demonstrated  a  good  understanding  of  Java,  they  will  begin  making  applications  for  mobile  devices.  Smartphones  and  tablets  will  be  used  to  test  the  apps  for  proper  function  during  their  development.  No  programming  experience  is  necessary.

Modern  Electronics  1A  is  an  introduction  to  DC  electrical  circuits  and  solid-­‐state  electronics.  The  purpose  of  this  course  is  to  give  students  an  understanding  of  how  modern  electronic  devices  work  so  they  will  be  prepared  to  troubleshoot  and  repair  them.  Although  students  will  be  introduced  to  electrical  laws  and  theory,  the  majority  of  the  learning  will  come  from  hands-­‐on  activities,  so  this  class  relies  heavily  on  the  use  of  electronic  kits.  Students  will  gain  knowledge  and  skills  that  will  help  them  be  successful  in  jobs  such  as  computer  support  technicians,  electronics  technicians  or  computer/electrical  engineers.

Modern  Electronics  1B  introduces  students  to  the  world  of  microcontrollers  and  microprocessors.  They  will  learn  how  to  program  these  devices  in  order  to  interact  with  and  control  various  sensors  and  motors.  This  class  uses  a  hands-­‐on  approach  so  students  will  be  working  extensively  with  an  Arduino  microcontroller  and  a  Raspberry  Pi  computer  to  build  prototypes  of  modern  electronic  devices.  Students  will  develop  skills  that  will  help  prepare  them  for  a  job  as  a  computer  support  technician,  electronics  technician  or  computer/electrical  engineer.
