GUIDE TO SUCCESS

• Read a little every day. Figure out how many pages you can read in an hour while keeping a reading journal and figure out how many hours you will need to complete the reading assignment. Divide that by 5 days to plan out how many hours you need to read each day. Use the other 2 days to complete the written work!*

• Keep a reading journal and make sure you are writing down something about the text at least every 15-20 minutes.

• Ask questions and share insights in the discussion areas (bottom of wiki pages, Blackboard, Voicethread)

• Show you are reading and thinking about all the texts by posting passages from a variety of texts and asking thoughtful questions

• Complete your section of the World Lit guide in the Wiki before the due date

• Review the World Lit Guide, course discussion areas and your own journal before writing your paper. Use class insights to support your own theories or point out where you disagree with others in the class

Contact me before your assignment is late. If you know you will be unable to log onto the course for awhile, explain the situation and have a plan for how you will catch up with missed work. Let me know if you are falling behind, confused, frustrated or overwhelmed. Don't just miss assignments without communicating what is going on!

*example. I can read 20 pages of Gogol an hour while keeping notes. We will read 82 pages of Gogol. I will need to read for 4 hours (82pages/20pages per hour=4hours) to complete the reading for Gogol. That gives me 1 hour per day, plus all those online writing activities that will take at least 3 more hours of work!
