History

• It was incorporated on 17 January 1985, as a

Private Limited Company in the name of Welspun

Winilon Silk Mills Pvt. Ltd. at Mumbai. It was

established to manufacture Polyester filament yarns

and texturised yarns. In 1995, the name changed

from Welspun Polyster to Welspun India Ltd.

Education

• Welspun promotes and supports the Right toEducation and is dedicated to improving andenhancing the quality of education thus equippingthe children of today to become the leaders oftomorrow. High priority is given to specificprogrammes to boost education of the Girl Child.

• Welspun Vidya Mandirs (up to Standard X) atAnjar, Gujarat and Salav, Maharashtra, aim toenhance all round development of children. Theyprovide quality education to over 2060 students.

• Welspun Foundation also works closely with thegovernment and non-profit organisations oneducational projects in Gujarat and Maharashtrafor the benefit of over 3,000 tribal, rural andurban children. It supports the efforts of NGOslike Naandi Foundation and Light of Life Trust.

EMPOWERMENTAND HEALTH

• Welspun is firmly committed to the empowerment ofwomen, focusing on providing them training that willenable them to earn a livelihood and be self-sufficient.

• Welspun pioneered Mission Mangalam Scheme with theGujarat Government. Currently there are three SakhiSwarnim Centers being run in Varsamedi, Dudhai andBhadreshwar. This initiative widens their livelihoodoptions by building capacities and providing training torural women. All those trained under the scheme areprovided a means of earning a livelihood, which hasenhanced their esteem, confidence and most importantlythe family’s economic standards.

• Welspun India Ltd, (WIL) Vapi has adopted an ITI in Vansda, District, Navsari under the Central Government Scheme of “ITI upgradation by Public-Private Partnership”. It has introduced three new trades i.e. Spinning, Weaving and Cutting & Sewing where training is imparted by professors from MS University, Vadodara and at WIL, Vapi. Successful students are absorbed in WIL.

• Welspun has also been at the forefront of initiatives to enhance the levels of health care of all the communities in close proximity to our plants, with a particular emphasis on dedicated facilities for women and children. We have set up health centres on our own as well as collaborated with ongoing projects being run by the government and other social institutions. Welspun’s health centres, which provide subsidised or free care to the needy, are a boon to the underprivileged populations in the villages surrounding our projects.

ENVIRONMENT

• Welspun strives at all levels to conserve naturalresources and energy. Optimisation ofconsumption and well planned wastage control &recycling measures are implemented at all facilities.Going beyond just compliance with applicableHealth, Safety and Environment (HSE) legislations,we strive to ensure that all managerial decisionsincluding selection/procurement of materials,machinery equipment, placement of personnel andsetting up of projects are integrated with thebroader goals of our CSR policy.

Welspun Foundation for Health &Knowledge

• Welspun Foundation for Health & Knowledge, chaired byMrs. Dipali Goenka, is a Public Charitable Trustestablished in 2004. A part of the Welspun Group'sprofits is ploughed back into welfare-driven initiatives ofthe Foundation. It supports developmental activitiesrelated to Education (Girl Child), Women’sEmpowerment, Environment, Health and Craft. Most ofthe activities of the Foundation take place in Mumbai,Anjar, Dahej and Vapi i.e. in and around Welspunfacilities.

Conclusion

• The Company shall contribute at least 2% ofthe average net profits of the Company madeduring the three immediately precedingfinancial years to WFHK for the CSR activitiesto be undertaken with preference to the localareas around where the company operates.
