In the year 2001, St. Martin de Porres Medical Center (SMPMC) was

established with a vision of becoming a multi - specialty medical center providing

quality health care to all patients regardless of their socio - economic status and

a mission of creating an impact in the community through quality service.

In its three years in operation, the medical center has come into the

realization that there is a great shortage of nurses who are competent, caring,

compassionate, cheerful and holistically ready for true service and care for

patients. This need for well - rounded nurses with exceptional clinical skills was

truly felt not only in the province but the whole nation, as well.

With our dream of fulfilling our vision - mission of providing quality health

care to our patients and to cope up with the growing demand for nurses, the Our

Lady of Mt, Carmel Medical Center was prompted to establish the St. Martin de

Porres Institute of Medical Studies (SMPIMS) in 2004 offering Bachelor of

Science in Nursing (BSN) and Caregiving NC II, each having 160 and 60

enrollees respectively.

In 2005, the school experienced an increase of 50% of its freshmen

enrollees from the previous year totaling its combined population for BSN to 400

students while their enrollees in Caregiving had an average of 60 students per

batch. With its enrollment – employment – deployment program, SMPIMS rose to

the ranks and gained a competitive market share of students in the province.

In 2009, SMPIMS was able to come up with 200 and 45 new enrollees for

their BSN and Caregiving programs respectively, a slight decrease from the

previous years. News of global recession and a growing number of surplus

among registered nurses in the country. It was made known to the SMPIMS

owner and administrators that they will experience a downtrend in their

enrollment in succeeding years despite of their enrollment – employment –

deployment program.

In the year 2010, due to a low enrollment turn out in their Caregiving NV II

program, the school was forced to close it. They also experienced a dramatic

decrease of 80% in their freshmen enrollees in their BSN program the previous

year. SMPIMS changed its name to College of St. Martin de Porres (CSMP) in

connection with the reason that the school found the need to offer more courses

under the fields of business and educations such as BS Tourism (BST), BS Hotel

and Restaurant Management (BSHRM), BS Elementary Education (BSEED) and

BS Secondary Education (BSSED).

CSMP total fixed and variable cost is roughly at 95% of the total revenue,

55% of which is spent on salaries and benefits of its employees. The college’s

total combined student population is at 890 and charging average fees of 60,000,

55,000, 45,000 and 35,000 per semester for BSN, BSHRM, BST and BSED

respectively. Upon the opening of these new courses the college is still with its

original vision of molding persons holistically, fully equipped with the skills and

knowledge and with heart full of love and compassion for work, for the greater

glory of God.
