Full-time program (30 hours / week)Full-time students can choose up to two classes, one in the morning and one in the afternoon, to focus on the skills they would like to improve.

Study Plan ServiceStudents who study for a period of 24 weeks or longer receive free Study Plan Services. You can meet with our Student Services Coordinator regularly to discuss your goals and create a study plan that best suits your needs.

Practical Conversation English

Practical Conversation EnglishThe Practical Conversation class uses a weekly theme-based curriculum to help students learn to speak and communicate effectively.

Beginner Curriculum – Levels 1, 2 & 3Sample weekly topics include: Money, Food, Shopping, Restaurants etc.

Vocabulary Building Students are exposed to more than 200 words per week. The emphasis is on functional daily language.

Pronunciation Oral exercises are used to help students learn clear pronunciation.

ConversationRole-play and dialogue practice help students to use new vocabulary and gain confidence speaking in everyday situations.

Speaking AccuracyGrammar practice is done through guided speaking exercises. Students learn the most functional verb tenses.

Vocabulary Building Students can expect to learn more than 50 new words, phrasal verbs, and idioms per week.

Pronunciation Clear speech and intonation patterns are emphasized.

ConversationStudents get the chance to participate in group discussions, to make presentations, and to learn to express their opinions and ideas clearly.

Speaking Accuracy Students learn grammar through error recognition and self-correction. They review the most common grammar structures and practice using them in conversation.

Intermediate Curriculum – Levels 4, 5 & 6Sample weekly topics include: Travel, Education, Pop Culture, etc.

Vocabulary Building Vocabulary acquisition focuses on word choice, word families, contextual use, and collocations.

Pronunciation Class activities focus on clear speech, natural intonation patterns, and accent reduction.

ConversationVarious techniques are used to promote conversation, encourage clear expression, and teach students to support their opinions. Group discussions, debates, and presentations give students the opportunity to practice their speaking skills.

Speaking AccuracyDuring conversations students focus on precise use of language, analyze their errors, and make self-corrections. Grammar rules are reviewed and lessons focus on weaknesses.

Advanced Curriculum – Levels 7, 8, 9 & 10Sample weekly topics include: Morals & Ethics, Controversial Topics, Environment etc.

Available for all levels This program is a great starting point for students who wish to take the Exam Preparation course.

Available for students of low intermediate and advanced levels Students’ pronunciation is corrected throughout the class to encourage them to focus on clear pronunciation during conversation activities.

In this class, a wide variety of reading texts are studied in detail. Each article includes a vocabulary list and comprehension exercises.Students then analyze the relationships between words as they practice using new vocabulary in a different context.

Students’ pronunciation and intonation are corrected through oral reading exercises. Grammar points are reviewed and close attention is paid to students’ grammatical accuracy during the speaking exercises.

A great class for students who want to improve reading skills and grammar accuracy in both speaking & writing.

This course focuses on:

Listening comprehension skills

Pronunciation for clear speech

Listening & PronunciationBy improving both listening and pronunciation skills, students develop their overall communication skills.

Through intensive listening exercises, students can improve not only their listening skills but also their vocabulary, idioms, and English expressions. To improve pronunciation, students learn the English sound system, rhythm, intonation, and how sounds are linked together in natural Canadian speech. Throughout the class, the teacher will guide students to make self corrections and produce clear pronunciation during speaking and reading activities.

Advanced Listening & PronunciationStudents are requested to prepare for their class by transcribing the broadcast-level listening materi-als. The class then studies the vocabulary, practices discrete listening comprehension, and reviews natural grammar patterns. Focused pronunciation lessons help students to improve articulation and reduce their accent.

Business EnglishPracticum Program

Business English

Available for High-intermediate to advanced level studentsRequirements: Coop visa or Working Holiday visa  Medical insurance Skype or phone interview before arriving in Canada.

Students must have taken a full-time in class English program before they start the Practicum Experience Program. The length of the Practicum Experience cannot exceed that of the in-class English Program. Placement is based on the students' previous work experience, educational background, current English level (High-intermediate or Business English), and personal commitment.

Available for advanced level students. Course availability is dependent on student demand.

The objective of this in-demand program is to give students a "hands on" opportunity to use all the English skills needed for a variety of business situations.

Practicum Experience Program

This course is designed to improve students' Business English vocabulary and help students gain confidence in communicating in English in various business

CSLI’s Practicum Experience Program offers a unique opportunity for students to practice their English in the “real world.”

CSLI approaches companies and organizations on students' behalf and an interview process is arranged. Students

individual coaching and support sessions. Upon their successful completion of the program, students will receive a Reference Letter from the host company and a CSLI Practicum Certificate.

Career InternshipThis option is ideal for students who would like to improve their Business English skills in real-life situationsand strengthen their resume with a career-related internship. The placement is on a non-paid basis. Examples of positions include business administration, IT, Tourism, international trade, and marketing.

Work ExperienceThis option is for students who would like to build confidence in speaking in English in a casual work setting. The placement is a paid position.

Examples of positions include retail, customer service, server,barista, and seasonal work.

CSLI English Program + Practicum Placement & Workshops + CSLI Extended Support

This program is a combination of in-class English courses and real-life practicum placements where students practice their English skills in a Canadian work environment. Through communication with Canadians and involvement in the local community, students are able to expand future career possibilities for when they return to their home country. Participants build skills and strengthen their resumes through international work experience supported by CSLI.

Exam PreparationIntensive Writing Program

Available for High Intermediate and Advanced level students CSLI offers student support in regards to information, registration, and questions about the exams. Exam registration fees are not included in exam preparation courses. CSLI offers on-site official TOEIC exams once a month.

Exam PreparationThis advanced level program assists students to prepare for internationally accepted English assessment tests such as IELTS, TOEFL, TOEIC, and Cambridge.

IELTS PreparationThe IELTS test consists of 4 modules: Listening, Reading, Writing, and Speaking. Authentic test material ensures that students are familiar with the test style and full-length practice exams help to monitor ongoing progress.

iBT TOEFL Preparation The course uses materials from the "iBT", the Internet-Based TOEFL test. The test consists of four sections: Speaking, Reading, Writing, and Listening.

TOEIC Preparation There are 2 TOEIC tests: the Listening and Reading Test and the Speaking and Writing Test. The course works on rapid vocabulary acquisition and retention techniques, reading comprehension skills, discrete listening, error recognition, and grammar.

Cambridge Exam Preparation *Students preparing for First Certificate (FCE), Advanced English (CAE), and Cambridge Proficiency (CPE) develop skills that include all aspects of language acquisition and exam requirements.

Intensive Writing ProgramThis program is specially designed for students who are interested in improving their written English. This course focuses on

This course is a great help for students looking to improve their exam scores on the IELTS or TOEFL exams and those interested in improving their written communication skills for various media, including emails, essays, and professional letters.

A variety of test-taking skills and strategies are introduced in the class to help students achieve higher scores. The class also works on their reading,writing, speaking, grammatical structure, and listening skills using materials relating to these tests.

Once a month, students will have an opportunity to write a full practice test to review their knowledge and familiarize themselves with the test style.

* The Cambridge Exam Preparation requires that students take a minimum of 5 hours/week of private lessons to focus intensively on the specific skills needed for the exams.

TESOLPower Vocabulay Private Lessons

Private LessonsMeet your goals by having one-on-one lessons with one of our professional, friendly, helpful teachers. The lessons are designed to help students focus on their specific needs, such as conversation, pronunciation, test preparation, and industry specific English.

Power VocabularyThis course helps students increase their active vocabulary (words used in their own writing and speaking) to express their ideas precisely.

Each week-long session includes a series of exercises on word meaning, word families, collocations, synonyms, and usage rules in order to help students reach a fuller understanding of the academic word lists. Excerpts from university level readings on contemporary themes such as social change, consumer behaviour, and natural resources are used for these exercises.

The course also contains writing and speaking components that challenge students to use the new words in their own sentences so they can start using them as part of their own active vocabulary.

Available for High Intermediate and Advanced level students

English for Effective Communication (EEC)Whether you are responsible for teaching new skills, managing a project, leading a team or demonstrating a product, this course will develop the skills you need to feel confident using English in your professional life.

English for Effective Communication is a 4 week intensive program intended to help participants understand the influence their native language, culture, body language and learning style may have on their communication. A variety of role-plays, case studies, group discussions and interactive presentations will help you to gain insight into the best ways to analyze, understand and interact with others successfully.

This program is also ideal for students who want to recognize their own mistakes and improve their public speaking skills.

Available for High Intermediate and Advanced level students

In the afternoons, seniors have a chance to practice English while experiencing Vancouver.

This prestigious program has been designed for busy executives on the fast track to developing their English skills. This dynamic program takes into account the needs of the professional students and shapes them to be excellent English conversationalists and presenters.

Available for Intermediate and Advanced level students Our executive itinerary taught in modules can be tailored to suit your needs, whether it is for 2 weeks, 3 weeks, or more.

Vancouver Orientation ProgramBy learning how to take a bus and the Skytrain, what to say at a restaurant, and how to ask for directions, students can feel more comfortable going out and exploring Vancouver by themselves. They will then go out to places like restaurants and supermarkets in downtown Vancouver with a teacher to use the English they have learned in class. We help make Vancouver fun and accessible!

Customized Group Program

From their first orientation to the final graduation party, seniors will be amazed at how much fun studying and using English can be! The program is available for groups with a minimum of 8 students.

CSLI can create a customized program in order to meet unique goals of the group. Examples of such programs include:Sightseeing & English, Golf & English, Hospitality English, Aviation English, and Office Administration English.

FRIDAY ACTIVITIES

Flexible Friday classes,fun and exciting activities!

The Friday Activities options always include at least 2 academic classes for those who prefer to study English in a classroom setting. Students can use these Friday classes to supplement their courses. Some of the many class topics include: Advanced grammar, Interview skills, Idioms class, Slang class, Telephone skills, and Resume writing.

Activities help students recognize that English is not just a school subject but also something they can use in their daily life.

Every week (with the exception of Monthly Graduation Days), students can choose from a selection of six to eight different activities planned for the week and join them without paying extra fees.

Among the many activities are sightseeing tours, hiking in beautiful natural settings, cultural experiences, and sports games!

We are proud to offer so many entertaining and interesting activities included in our program.

It is a wonderful opportunity to learn more about your friends’ customs and way of life, and speak English!

Break-time Games & English ContestsEvery break time is a great opportunity to meet people and practice speaking English. CSLI prepares many activities to help students relax, enjoy their free time, and meet students from other classes. Activities are diverse, including birthdaycelebrations, seasonal Canadian events, Canada trivia quizzes, Ping-Pong tournamentsand a variety of English skill contests.

Sports and GamesStudents get together after school to play soccer, tennis, and other sports. You can develop your skills while you meet more students, speak English, and of course, have a lot of fun.

CSLI Awards

This is the highest student award, presented each month to the student with the greatest improvement in English, excellent attendance, completed assignments, enthusiastic participation in class, and the greatest commitment to helping other students.

At our end-of-month graduation party, teachers give a medal to the best student in their classes in order to recognize their effort.

The winner of the Student of the Month award receives an engraved trophy plus a one-monthscholarship to continue their studies at CSLI.

This award is offered to the individual who best promotes relations between their home country and Canada through CSLI. Ambassadors receive a lifetime of free English study for themselves and their immediate family.

Weekly GraduationAll students are recognized in a special ceremony at the end of their studies. There are weekly graduation ceremonies for students who are leaving us before the end of the month; they receive their CSLI Diploma in front of the whole school.

At the end of the month, we have a graduation celebration attended by the entire student body. These parties are centered on exciting events such as harbour boat cruises, beach barbecues, Oscar, Halloween, International Chef, and seasonal carnivals. Graduation parties are always free.

CSLI is a student-focused school. We recognize students who work hard to meet the challenges of their studies.

CSLI DiplomaAll CSLI students who successfully complete their program are awarded a CSLI Diploma in recognition of their proficiency and progress. Students are required to speak English at all times, complete assignments, participate actively in class, and have good attendance.

CSLI Campus

Staying with a Host Family is an ideal way to experience a new way of life and to improve all aspects of English language communication. Friendly, helpful families make your stay in Canada more enjoyable and enrich your cultural experience while helping you to practice and improve your English.

Host families have been selected for their interests, friendliness, safe neighbourhoods, convenience to transportation, and comfortable homes. All homes offer you a private bedroom, three meals a day, and access to shared TV, telephone, and laundry.

Student counsellors and a Homestay Coordinator are available to discuss any concerns in order to make sure your stay in Canada is as comfortable and enjoyable as possible.

Students can make use of the spacious student lounge, kitchen (microwaves & refrigerator), free coffee and tea, snack and beverage machines, games (foosball & table tennis), and computer stations with high-speed and wireless Internet. Classes use modern audio visual equipment such as flat screen TVs, MP3 Players, laptop computers, and projectors. The friendly front-desk staff is always available for counselling, school and city information, and visa assistance.

CSLI’s modern, spacious facility is specially designed to create a friendly and comfortable atmosphere.

CSLI is located in dynamic Yaletown, the newest and trendiest district of downtown Vancouver.

In addition to being close to the Vancouver Public Library, bus stops and other central conveniences, we are located just a few minutes’ walking distance from Yaletown station, providing direct skytrain access to and from Vancouver International Airport.
