WELCOME TO TEACHING SCIENCE OF MIND!
Welcome to the Education Catalog for Centers for Spiritual Living which focuses on certificated education
from Foundational level courses through Practitioner Training. This document provides Member
Communities and instructors with the latest education information and procedures. This document will
be updated periodically and the newest versions will be uploaded to the Education Department website,
www.csl.org/education.
Centers for Spiritual Living is undergoing an education overhaul. There are many committees and teams
working on enhancing and enriching our educational materials, procedures and deliveries. The new
curriculum will be developed with a global and inclusive perspective in mind. I know that through our
collaboration, we will offer the best of our intellectual and heart -centered materials to our
students. Our goal is always to offer the best of Centers for Spiritual Living to the world. Together we
take what began as a series of lectures by our founder, Ernest Holmes, in an auditorium in Los Angeles
almost 90 years ago and realize the greater vision of making this teaching available to every person
seeking it.
This catalog is a result of the collective efforts of the Centers for Spiritual Education Department staff,
the Education Committee and input from the field. The process of continuously enhancing and evolving
our curriculum and delivery is underway. This catalog provides up-to-date educational policies and
procedures, information to register students for courses, the education requirements for practitioner
training and information regarding completed educational transcripts for licensing as a Licensed Spiritual
Practitioner. All changes in Centers for Spiritual Living Education policy and procedure will be published
in this document.
The CSL Education Catalog complements the Centers for Spiritual Living Policies and Procedures Manual,
which is often referenced here. Together, the Education Catalog, the Policies and Procedures Manual,
and the individual course curricula are designed to provide Member Communities with everything they
need to teach Science of Mind to students in their respective communities.
Thank you for your consciousness and sacred service in offering these courses and for the redesign of
Centers for Spiritual Living Education. Please know that the Education Committee and the Education
Department of Centers for Spiritual Living are always here to serve our Member Communities and
students of this teaching.
Love and Gratitude,
Rev. Nicole Merges
Spiritual Development Education Manager

EDUCATION PROGRAM
Organizational Vision: Centers for Spiritual Living is a global organization comprised of individuals and communities committed to living consciously as expressions of God.
Education Vision: Centers for Spiritual Living provides education that transforms lives, igniting the potential of each individual to connect with their True Self and to apply and express love, and facilitates personal and global stewardship, healing and connection.
Our Mission: Our mission is to continuously create a profound, professional, and provocative curriculum with emphasis on the consciousness as embodied and taught by Dr. Ernest Holmes. We produce curriculum that includes the practices of Spiritual Mind Treatment, Meditation, and Visioning, and is consistent with the philosophy of Science of Mind, while reflecting ageless wisdom and exploring new ideas from modern science, quantum physics, and psycho-spiritual approaches to Truth. PURPOSE AND PHILOSOPHY OF EDUCATION PROGRAM
The purpose of the education program of Centers for Spiritual Living is to provide the resources, structure, awareness, methods and tools to support spiritual education to our world and fulfill the vision and mission of the organization through transformative delivery of our courses of study.
The philosophy of the education program embodies the following tenets:
Centers for Spiritual Living places great trust in its Ministers to lead, teach, facilitate and oversee the education programs in its Member Communities, and its Practitioners to deliver the programs with the approval and under the supervision of a Senior Minister/Spiritual Director.
Our work as teachers is ultimately about supporting our students in transforming their consciousness. In doing so, it is ultimately the consciousness of the teacher that is continuously expanding. Our daily spiritual practice as teachers and the resulting expanded consciousness is ultimately what the teacher has to offer the student. The education curriculum is designed to free the teacher to focus on expanding and transforming consciousness.
The Science of Mind teaching provides universal spiritual principles with which students may transform their lives. It is not meant to be dogmatic; the greatest interest is in fostering students’ development and growth along their spiritual path, and not to convince them to adopt the Science of Mind philosophy, although many students will, simply because of its powerful impact on our lives.
It is a sacred honor to be a spiritual teacher, and with that comes great responsibility to treat students with dignity, honor, respect and reverence. This need not be approached with fear but approached with great humility and humbleness.
The Education Department and Education Committee of Centers for Spiritual Living are here to support the work of our Ministers and Practitioners as teachers of Science of Mind courses. While these two bodies are entrusted with overseeing and implementing policies and procedures, their highest role and intent is to facilitate the greatest possibility of offering the Science of Mind teaching in the most effective way to our students around the world. Teachers are encouraged to
reach out to the members of these groups for support.

ETHICS OF THE SPIRITUAL TEACHER
Why a Section on Ethics? Ethics is a system of moral principles or rules of conduct or practice, recognized by a particular culture or group.
An ethical act is one where we refrain from causing harm to others’ experiences or expectations of
happiness. Like a spiritual act, it fosters love, patience, and tolerance. The motivation for ethical acts
moves from a consciousness of caring and seeking to benefit others, rather than from self-interest.
These acts make for lasting rather than momentary happiness and a sense of well-being.
The Dalai Lama (in Ethics for the New Millennium) suggests that those individuals whose conduct is
ethically positive are happier and more satisfied than those who disregard ethics. Yet, conducting
ourselves ethically means more than merely obeying laws and precepts. It means guarding against
those factors which obstruct inner peace and promoting those things conducive to inner peace (i.e.,
concern for others and a high degree of sensitivity and feeling). A consideration of ethics is an
invitation to consider inner motivations and the consequences of one’s own actions.
Ethics for Science of Mind Classrooms As Ministers and Practitioners, we are teachers and facilitators of learning environments for
understanding and practicing the Science of Mind teaching. We create teaching and learning
environments and experiences in which students who desire to discover and apply this philosophy in
their lives may do so. This is accomplished not only through the content of the material studied, but
also the experiences they have through what we model for them, and through what is shared by their
fellow students.
Our intention is that students experience the following: 1. SPIRITUALITY: We model the practice of universal principles expressed by Ernest Holmes in his
statement “What We Believe.” That is, we look beyond materiality and invite ourselves and our
students into demonstrating an openness to the Unseen, as The Presence is ever seeking to express
itself in new ways in our daily lives. 2. LOVE: We allow the blessings of Spirit to flow through us and as us so students have an opportunity
to discover they are welcome, appreciated, valued, heard, understood, respected, guided, responded
to, and validated for the variety of ways which they express. 3. INTEGRITY: We honor our spiritual beliefs and are fair in our actions. Students have the
opportunity to see consistency between what we say and do. We refrain from any romantic or sexual
relationship with our students. Students experience the sacredness of the trust they place in the
teacher. 4. CARING: We are concerned about, have affection for, and make a conscientious effort to
ensure each student has the best learning experience.
9
5. COMPASSION: In all we say and do, we express kindheartedness and generosity toward all.
Teachers should be consciously aware of the impact of their words and actions on others’ wellbeing.
This is demonstrated in how assignments are recommended, the way students receive feedback and
the nature of dialogue and discussion.
6. ACCOUNTABILITY: We are conscientious in fulfilling all course and education program agreements
with Centers for Spiritual Living and with the students. We enthusiastically seek opportunities to report
to CSL all that is requested, to explain students’ responsibilities and to fulfill students’ expectations as
identified in course descriptions. 7. TEAMWORK: We encourage students to learn and work together in harmony. At times students
are in positions where they follow, lead, engage in consensus and have the opportunity for individual
choices. 8. OPEN COMMUNICATION: We create opportunities for teachers and students to express their own
thoughts and hear others’ authentic thoughts and points of view. Students and teachers discuss,
dialogue and explore meanings behind points of view and feelings expressed.
9. CONFIDENTIALITY: Students experience a safe environment where confidentiality around individual
sharing is agreed upon by all. 10. EDUCATION: We recognize the unique needs of adult learners. Our students have opportunities to
reason, discern, acquire knowledge, intuit, contemplate and prepare to live as spiritually mature and
enlightened individuals. They have opportunities to discover, think, talk, observe and create. They are
provided ways to practically apply universal principles and sacred stories to their personal
circumstances and to contemporary issues. 11. COMMUNITY SERVICE: We create opportunities for students to discover their internal motivations,
spontaneous expressions, and spiritual commitment as they anchor their spiritual growth through sacred
service in the local and global community.

TEACHING AND LEARNING IN SCIENCE OF MIND CLASSROOMS
Let us begin this section with a quote from our Founder, Ernest Holmes in The Science of Mind:
Peace be unto thee, stranger, enter and be not afraid.
I have left the gate open and thou art welcome to my home.
There is room in my house for all.
I have swept the hearth and lighted the fire.
The room is warm and cheerful and you will find comfort and rest within.
The table is laid and the fruits of Life are spread before thee.
The wine is here also, it sparkles in the light.
I have set a chair for you where the sunbeams dance through the shade.
Sit and rest and refresh your soul. Eat of the fruit and drink the wine. All, all is yours, and you are welcome.
May this be the spirit and vibration in each of our Science of Mind classrooms!
Teacher Responsibilities
Expressing from the consciousness Ernest Holmes so beautifully established in The Science of Mind
you, as teachers of the Science of Mind, are invited to enter into the “Teaching Order,” the hallmark
of our Religious Science Ministry. You serve the community drawn to your portals, by using the best
methods for providing teaching and learning experiences. Teachers of the Science of Mind do this by
creating a student-centered teaching and learning environment which is attractive, warm, joyful,
spiritually inspiring, honoring diversity, intellectually challenging and practically useful.
Student-Centered Learning in the Science of Mind Classroom:
Supports Students’ Divinity: Science of Mind teaches that all come with the potential of revealing the Divine. Therefore, Science of Mind teachers recognize that each student comes with assets (ideas, ways of perceiving life experiences and ways of doing things) upon which the learning activities may be built toward an expanded repertoire.
Supports Students to Embody the Principles: Ernest Holmes reminds us that in order to understand, one must embody --- or make a concept a part of one’s being --- in thought, feelings and body. Science of Mind teachers provide opportunities for students to be actively engaged in learning by using experiential methods and by discovering and using outer and inner senses, to acquire and to express new understandings.
Enables Students to Be Motivated and Find Meaning: Adult learning theory suggests it is
essential to draw on the experiences of mature students to stimulate interest in acquiring new
understandings and to make topics relevant. Science of Mind teachers provide opportunities for
students to relate personal, cultural, historical, and contemporary experiences to the content of
the course being explored.
Provides Joyfully Attractive and Orderly Environment: Teachers and staff working with students
are encouraged to bring and inspire feelings of warmth and joy. Opportunities are provided for
students to be engaged with the information, to feel connected to the community of learners, to
11
have fun discovering and relating to one’s own foibles and expansiveness and to laugh and be
surprised when the new opens into the familiar.
Prepares for and stimulates a Spiritually Inspiring Atmosphere: Science of Mind teachers are
expected to set the tone for the course by engaging in pre-class activity to prepare their own
consciousness to be a transparent place through which Spirit flows freely into the learning
experience with joy, wisdom, intuitive insights, and brilliant guidance. Teachers provide the
opportunity for students to be open to the information to be shared. Each session starts with a
centering moment - invocation, treatment, meditation and/or visioning experience. During the
session, the teacher guides students into deeper realms of thinking, knowing, and expressing by
asking thought-provoking questions, inviting intuitive revelations, and engaging in creative
expressions. The atmosphere is charged with students’ expressions of awe, wonder,
compassion, and devotion.
Honors Students’ Diversity: Science of Mind teachers embrace the Global Vision of Centers for
Spiritual Living and recognize that the people of the world are of one inclusive community, our
global family. Teachers provide opportunities in the classroom for students to consciously
deepen their sense of connectedness with people of different economic, age, gender, sexual
orientation, ethnic, nationality, religious, and cultural backgrounds and experiences. Sensitive to
Ernest Holmes’ thinking that unity does not mean uniformity, the teacher takes time to find out
about, experience, and support ways of learning appropriate for cultures different from his/her
own. The teacher creates opportunities for students to acknowledge and accept differences
among people. The teacher is an example of, and facilitates harmony, respect, and fairness
among people of different cultural groups in the spiritual community. The teacher uses relevant
language and examples, while facilitating application activities to allow for unique ways of
perceiving, understanding, and applying information to be honored.
Establishes Intellectually Challenging Assignments: Teachers present the curriculum in a way
that ensures that students participating in the course are challenged. Teachers raise questions
stimulating critical thinking, analytical processing, and summarizing the concepts discussed.
Students discover they are informed, mentally stretched, and/or soulfully deepened.
Strives to make Outcomes Practical: Science of Mind Teachers use, as examples, master
teachers from throughout the ages, to provide avenues through which the subtle, the
paradoxes, and the transcendent ways of knowing may become practically applied in students’
daily lives. Teachers use sacred stories, the koans (the pithy and paradoxical statements which
teach emptiness by confounding the intellect, forcing students back on their direct apprehension
of Reality), parables, ceremonies, rituals, lecture and discussions, Socratic discourse, practical
demonstrations of healings and artistic expressions to ensure students perceive practical ways to
transform their lives and transcend limited ways of being— thus opening their lives to express
their innate magnificence in the world.

SECTION I GENERAL INFORMATION ABOUT CERTIFICATED/NON-CERTIFICATED COURSES
Certificated Courses – Centers for Spiritual Living (CSL) uses the term Certificated as follows:
• A Certificated Course is designed to ensure that the universal principles, as written by Dr. Ernest Holmes and identified as Science of Mind Principles, are made transparent to students so they understand and apply the principles and related practices in their daily lives. This curriculum is recognized by CSL. Certificated Courses are made available to anyone who is seeking spiritual growth. Additionally, hours accumulated while studying in any Certificated Course may be credited toward the requirements to enter the Professional Practitioner Studies Program in CSL.
Each CSL-approved education course contains essential objectives and concepts that CSL expects to be imparted to our students. Our curriculum provides many recommended methods by which these objectives and concepts may be imparted. As long as the objectives and concepts of a CSL-approved course are taught, our ministers, practitioners, and teachers have the discretion to determine what methods to use, even if those methods are not expressly stated in existing curriculum. Ministers, practitioners, and teachers also have the ability to supplement or add new material to any existing course. These courses may be registered as a current certificated course with the same objectives and concepts. Certificates will be issued with the name of the CSL-Certificated Course and student will have record of the course on their permanent education transcript.
CSL Courses are not certificated nor accredited by any other agency. Therefore, the courses may
not qualify for credit at any other establishment or educational institution.
Non-Certificated Courses – These are other courses developed by ministers or practitioners of CSL and may also be offered by member communities. They are usually shorter in length than the Certificated Courses and some are designed to be used by groups within the community with or without an authorized professional leading.
AUTHORIZED PROFESSIONALS TO TEACH CERTIFICATED COURSES
All certificated courses must be taught and registered through a CSL-affiliated community in good standing or the CSL Online Education Program.
• Centers for Spiritual Living Ministers/Spiritual Directors licensed or ordained are authorized to
teach Certificated Courses and the Professional Practitioner Studies Program within a member
community of CSL. • Spiritual Practitioners licensed by CSL may be authorized to teach Certificated Courses if so
approved by the Senior Minister/Spiritual Director of their member community, or their Regional Support Coordinator (RSC), the authorizing individual to sign off on the Registration Form.
• Online Course Teachers must be licensed as a Practitioner or Minister of a CSL-affiliated Member Community endorsed by CSL (See 2016 CSL Policies and Procedures 10.5).
13
Practitioners must be approved by their Senior Minister to teach online for an affiliated community. These individuals have demonstrated proven abilities to teach Science of Mind courses and proven online course delivery skills.
• Non-Certificated Course Teachers may be anyone whom the Senior Minister or Department of Education identifies as appropriate to deliver workshops or classes consistent with the Science of Mind philosophy.
AUTHORIZED ORGANIZATIONS to TEACH CERTIFICATED COURSES
• Member Communities that are affiliated with CSL may offer Certificated Courses. If the member community is without a Senior Minister/Spiritual Director, Certificated Courses and the Professional Practitioners Studies Program may be offered, if approved and overseen by the Regional Support Coordinator or CSL-approved designee. If your Member Community is without a Senior Minister/Spiritual Director, please contact the CSL Education Department for procedural information by emailing [email protected]. The offering of the Professional Practitioner Studies Program by a Spiritual Practitioner who is the Director of a Teaching Chapter must be approved and overseen by the Regional Support Coordinator.
TEACHING CERTIFICATED COURSES AT A MEMBER COMMUNITY WITHOUT A SENIOR MINISTER If your Member Community is without a Senior Minister, please follow the steps below if you intend to teach certificated courses while without a permanent Senior Minister. Questions about this process can be directed to Nicole Hedlof, Education Program Coordinator at [email protected]. *Please note the process outlined below pertains to Education department requirements only. There may be additional requirements for your Member Community from other Home Office departments and/or your Regional Support Coordinator (RSC).
Obtain the Approval for Teaching Certificated Education without a Senior Minister form. This form
is available from the Licensing & Credentialing Department packet for Member Communities
without Senior Ministers and is also available in the back of this catalog as well as from the
Education Department directly.
The above form is to be completed by your Regional Support Coordinator and submitted to Home
Office prior to the registration of any certificated courses. Only those instructors listed on the
form are approved for teaching certificated courses at your Member Community.
The completed Approval for Teaching Certificated Education without a Senior Minister form will
be kept on file for your Member Community. When your community obtains a new Senior
Minister this form will be marked as inactive.
Registration forms for completed classes are to be signed by those instructors approved to teach
courses within that Member Community.
14
Certificated course registrations submitted to Home Office while your Member Community is
without a Senior Minister will be processed as usual, with the verification that only approved
instructors are teaching certificated courses. Certificates generated from the registrations will list
the Regional Support Coordinator as the signing Minister.
The Regional Support Coordinator has 2 options for signing Certificated Course Certificates of Completion:
o The Regional Support Coordinator can provide Home Office with an electronic signature.
This signature will be printed onto the certificates by Home Office. Certificates are then
sent directly from Home Office to the Member Community to be distributed to students.
o The Regional Support Coordinator can opt not to provide the electronic signature. In this
case, certificates will be generated without a signature and sent directly to the RSC to sign.
Home Office will provide the RSC with an addressed and stamped envelope to then send
the signed certificates to the Member Community to be distributed to students.
If you Member Community obtains an Interim Minister, procedures for teaching and registering
courses will be addressed on a case-by-case basis. Please contact Nicole Hedlof, Education
Program Coordinator, at [email protected] if this occurs.
When your Member Community fills the position of Senior Minister the above policies will be
terminated and registration and certificate processing will resume normal procedures.
Please see the Procedures & Forms section of this catalog to obtain the Approval for Teaching Certificated Education without a Senior Minister form.

POLICIES
A. Purpose: To uphold a standard of excellence for online education whereby all CSL-Affiliated Communities offer quality instruction to participants of CSL certificated courses. B. Definitions: Defined terms used within the online education policies and procedures. Online Education: Education that is primarily delivered via the internet through virtual technologies.
There is both an asynchronous and synchronous aspect to the course. Asynchronous (not in real time): The portion of the class is done on the participants’ time. Participants
interact with each other and the instructor via a technology such as a news forum or email. All coursework is submitted via technology.
Synchronous: (in real time): The face-to-face component of the course that takes place virtually in real time.
CSL Certificated Courses: Prerequisite certificated courses that must be registered with Home Office. See Education Catalog for current certificated courses.
Mixed Delivery Courses: Courses that are taught to face-to-face audiences with some participants joining online with the use of audio/video technology.
Learning Management System (LMS): A web site that contains a set of tools used to provide organized content, communication tools, links, upload and download capabilities for teacher and participants’ interactivity in online courses.
C. General Information: This policy is written for CSL-affiliated centers who wish to teach CSL certificated online courses and/or use mixed delivery methods for education (see Section I). This policy outlines considerations and best practices for online education. It is written to support CSL affiliated communities offering successful online education programs. CSL expects that participating communities will have the necessary education and training to uphold CSL best practices for online education. CSL offers online education and training to support the best practices for successful online education programs. This policy is also written to educate and support CSL-affiliated communities who offer mixed delivery courses. Best practices for successful mixed delivery courses are outlined in section I. D. Considerations for Online Education Programs: The appropriateness and viability of online education programs must be carefully considered. Below are three areas of consideration before offering online education through a CSL-affiliated community.
1. Planning/Implementation: Thorough planning and implementation for online education is a key to success for the overall program. Here are some considerations to take in regards to planning and implementing a successful online program:
a. Technology and Learning Management System: Preparing the content and course activities online, preparing participant guides for introducing the participants to the use of the technology, creating feedback to the participants, being prepared to support the participants and back up plans for technological challenges. b. Path of course offerings, methods of building spiritual community, communication and continued social connection established. c. Training instructors and assistants on online pedagogical strategies and integrating tools to
16
support participants’ online learning. Registration and communication with participants before, during and after the course. Payment of online instructor and CSL-affiliated member community. d. Marketing of courses to a target audience. Collecting a mailing list, methods of advertising, social media strategies, and other marketing strategies. e. Creating a syllabus listing course objectives, format of the course, length of the course, participant expectations, participant communications, timelines for engagement of course materials, methods of engaging and attending class, minimum technology requirements, books needed, speed of Internet access.
2. Design: Certificated courses must be adapted for the unique nature of the online learning environment. CSL-affiliated communities are expected to apply best practice technique when adapting a course for online delivery. A successful design of an online course from face-to-face curriculum takes time and expertise to develop. Developing an online spiritual community requires additional skills as online learners have different needs than those who are face-to-face in community. 3. CSL Education Policies and Course Registration: CSL Education Policies and Procedures are to be followed when teaching certificated courses. A registration fee must be paid for all participants taking certificated courses. Collecting and paying the fee is to be taken into consideration when setting up CSL-certificated online courses. See Section 10.3 Certificated Courses Policies and Procedures for details.
E. Teaching Certificated Courses Online through a CSL-Affiliated Community: All CSL-affiliated communities may teach certificated courses online leading to Practitioner training providing the following criteria are met:
1. An online education covenant is signed and filed with Home Office. The signed covenant is an agreement from the CSL-Affiliated Community to uphold the best practices listed in Section 10.5.H. Covenant can be found on the Education Program website (www.csl.org/education) or can be requested from the Spiritual Development Education department at [email protected]. 2. The CSL Education Policies and Procedures for registering courses/participants are followed. See CSL Policies & Procedures updated 2016 or later, Section 10.2 and 10.3. 3. CSL-affiliated communities are to report all online course activity on the annual report.
F. Teaching Practitioner Training Online through a CSL-Affiliated Community: This policy is currently under review and is subject to change. All CSL-affiliated communities may teach Practitioner I and II training providing the following criteria are met:
1. CSL-affiliated communities have a signed covenant filed with CSL and are current with the policies as stated in Section 10.5.E. 2. A practitioner verification form for all participants entering into Practitioner I training must be submitted to Home Office. Home Office will verify participants’ prerequisite courses before Practitioner I training begins. 3. In-person retreats must be held during year 1 and 2 of Practitioner training. Retreats may
17
combine Practitioner I and II participants. Retreat dates and location must be filed with Home Office. 4. CSL licensing procedures as outlined in section 8 must be followed. 5. Practitioner applicants of a CSL-Affiliated Community who have completed their Practitioner II training online will have successful oral panels required for licensing set up or approved by Home Office.
G. CSL-Affiliated Communities offering Mixed Delivery Courses:
1. A Mixed Delivery Course Covenant is signed and filed with Home Office. Covenant can be found on the Education website (www.csl.org/Education) or can be requested from the Spiritual Development Education department at [email protected]. 2. The Mixed Delivery Course Covenant upholds the following best practices: Sections 10.5.H.1, 10.5.H.2, 10.5.H.4, 10.5.H.5, 10.5.H.7. 3. The CSL Education Policies and Procedures for registering courses/participants are followed. See CSL Policies & Procedures updated 2016 or later, Sections 10.2 and 10.3. 4. CSL-affiliated communities are to report all online course activity on the annual report.
H. Best Practices for Online Education: CSL-affiliated communities agree to uphold the following best practices when offering online education: (Mixed Delivery Course Best Practices marked with an *.)
*1. Spiritual Consciousness Engage in conscious preparation prior to the start of the course. Set intentions and establish the consciousness of the course and begin to envision and build
relationships with potential participants. Respect relationships between participants and CSL-affiliated communities. Establish communication practices with CSL-affiliated communities when a participant
attends an online course from another community. Honor, understand and adjust curriculum to the cultural diversity of participants. Be mindful of time differences for each participant.
*2. Technology
Proficiency in the technologies used to deliver the course (or have expert technical assistance).
Prepare plan for technological alternatives in the event of issues and challenges. Provide clear technological instruction to participants. Know minimal technological requirements for course.
3. Learning Management System (LMS)
Implement a software application for the administration of the course and supplemental materials (Moodle, etc.) so that participants know where to go to find materials, review the timelines, interact with one another, etc.
Design continual course activities that that drive the participants to utilize the LMS throughout the course.
*4. Facilitator Presence Create safe and sacred space for interactions between all members and aspects of the
course: facilitator-participant, participant-participant, participant-course material. Prepare online activities, respond to assignments and engage with participants.
18
Develop an open, available and responsive relationship with participants. Assess participants’ emotional, spiritual and physical needs and respond with care for
spiritual and personal growth.
*5. Communication Establish confidentiality and communication guidelines. Model appropriate and authentic sharing. Provide continual, timely and precise communication with participants in and between class

SUGGESTED TUITION
For each course, there is a suggested tuition which teachers can use as a guide for determining what
tuition they desire to charge. It is an estimate of $25.00 per course week, plus the Registration Fee.
REGISTRATION POLICES
Registration Requirements: All member communities authorized to teach Certificated Courses or
the Professional Practitioner Studies Program are responsible for registering students and paying fees
in order for the student(s) to receive credit and a certificate for that course. Any student who is
reviewing a course to meet time requirements in order to continue taking coursework must also be
registered.
All students must be registered with the CSL Spiritual Development Education Department when
the coursework is completed. Students are encouraged to retain their certificate(s) as proof of course
completion and the member community is required to maintain records of the courses each student
has taken.
Purpose of Registration Fees: The Registration Fee permits affiliated centers to teach the intellectual
property of CSL and supports the development of a new Centers for Spiritual Living Education program.
It also supports the administrative staff, computer recording and tracking of each student in every
course, printing and mailing certificates, transcripts and course development costs. The prompt
registration and payment of fees for the students assists CSL in continuing to provide excellent
educational support and curricula.
Class Registration Cost per Student: Effective September 1, 2012, the standard price for
registration of all certificated courses is $45.00; however, the temporary pricing for certain asterisked
(*) courses will be $20.00, pending curriculum evaluation and quality improvement or updating.
The Registration Fee for the Practitioner I and Practitioner II courses are each $100.00 per student per year.
Submitting Student Registration: Within 60 days of completion of any Certificated Course, Practitioner I or Practitioner II courses, the member community must submit the Registration Form, together with the full Registration Fee, by mailing to:
Centers for Spiritual Living
Education Department
573 Park Point Dr. Golden, CO 80401
21
REGISTRATION PROCEDURES
Student Registration Form: Please complete the form thoroughly and legibly for accurate record
keeping and certificate printing. Doing so ensures efficient processing and handling. All registration
forms must contain a minister’s or education director’s signature in order to be processed.
A separate registration form should be used for each course. For students who have completed the
course for the first time the “CREDIT” space is to be checked. For students taking the course an
additional time and already have the course on their record, the “REVIEW” space should be checked.
Courses for Credit: A student receives credit for a certificated course upon meeting the standards of
the course. Successful completion of a course is determined by the instructor and properly registered
and recorded with CSL. See Description of Certificated Courses for course registration fee. A certificate
is issued upon registration.
Course for Review: Students who have successfully completed any Certificated Course and already
have the course on their record, may retake the same course as a review. The course will be recorded
on the student’s transcript. The registration fee for a course for review is $20. A certificate of
completion will be issued.
Tuition for reviewing a course: Each Member Community has the option to set/decrease tuition
amounts for courses students are completing as review. Please note that any discount on tuition does
not change the review registration fee of $20.
Reviewing a course is for a student who is retaking a course they have already completed, for an
additional time. A reviewed course appears on the student’s transcript.
Courses for CEUs: Licensed Spiritual Practitioners and Ministers may complete certificated courses as
CEU credit. These courses are to be registered with Home Office as Review and require the $20
registration fee.
Each student’s completed address, along with birth date should be included for identification purposes.
All students’ records are updated accordingly to indicate that they have completed the course either for
Credit or Review.
Reprints for certificates of completion: Students or Teachers may request a new Certificate of Completion for a previously issued certificate.
New certificate emailed as pdf file: Free
Reprinted and mailed: $10.00
22
Transcripts: Student Progress Reports and official completed transcripts may be requested at any time by the student or minister. Please email [email protected].
If you find that a student’s transcript is inaccurate, please follow the procedure below to get the transcript updated.
Transcript Troubleshooting and Procedures
1.) Duplicate records: In some cases, students may have duplicate records in the system. Please provide any previous names, addresses or centers attended for research into this so we may merge any duplicate records and create one record for the student and update the transcript.
2.) ICSL classes: Former ICSL classes taken before 2012 may be located in the old ICSL database. Please provide the name(s) of the courses, Member Community where the course was completed, course completion date and name of instructor. If courses are found in this database, they will be added to the student’s record.
3.) Classes not on record:
a) For classes before 2011, please have the instructor verify course completion by providing the following information: Name of student, name of course, name of Member Community where course was completed, course completion date and instructor’s name. Courses will be added to the student record.
b) For courses completed 2012 to present and not registered with Home Office: Please use the current registration form and procedures and submit payment. Registration details are outlined above.
c) For courses completed 2012 to present and registered with Home Office and not recorded: Please provide the Education Department with as many details as possible, check #, name of course, course completion date, name of Member Community where course was completed, approximate date registration was submitted. We will conduct further research to update the record.
4.) Variance Requests: Students with only 4 or 5 of the prerequisite courses may request a variance into
practitioner training. The Senior Minister can request a variance letter template from the Education Department to be completed, reviewed and if approved, saved in the student’s permanent record.
TIME REQUIREMENT POLICIES AND RECOMMENDATIONS
Certificated Course Recommendation: It is recommended to only enroll in only one course at a time,
so that the individual has the opportunity to study the material in depth, and apply this new
understanding to daily life experiences—thus opening to embody the new concepts. A student in any
Certificated Course may take another certificated course concurrently with minister’s approval.
Practitioner Training Entry Application Recommendation: It is recommended that students who are
applying to complete Practitioner Training through a Member Community submit a Spiritual Mind
Treatment as a part of their application. This allows the instructor/Senior Minister the opportunity to
assess the students’ Treatment abilities based on the current level of study.
23
Time Requirement to Enter Professional Practitioner Studies: Beginning September 2015,
students are eligible to enter the Practitioner Program only after completing a minimum of 6 courses
of study (see Prerequisite Coursework for Practitioner Studies or Path to Practitioner Studies chart
included below) in the required courses from the subject categories listed in this Catalog. All
certificated courses must be completed within the preceding five years of enrolling into Practitioner
Studies. If more than five years has elapsed, that course must be retaken. For example, if more than
five years has elapsed since taking Foundations, the course must be retaken prior to entry into
Practitioner Training. No certificated course older than five years will be counted as meeting any
requirement for entering Practitioner Studies unless a variance is requested in writing by the Senior
Minister/Spiritual Director.
Time Requirement during Practitioner Training: The Practitioner I certificate is valid for three (3)
years from the date of course completion for entry into Practitioner II. If more than 3 years elapse
between Practitioner I and II, Practitioner I must be repeated.
Practitioner Licensing: The Practitioner II certificate is valid for two (2) years from the date
of course completion for applying for licensure as a Licensed Spiritual Practitioner through
Centers for Spiritual Living.
If more than two (2) years have elapsed since completion of Practitioner II, the student
must retake Practitioner II before reapplying for licensing.
If more than five (5) years have elapsed since completion of Practitioner I or II the
student must retake a Foundational Course and Practitioner I and/or II before
initiating the licensing process.
A practitioner license will only be issued with all required courses registered with
Centers for Spiritual Living. A completed transcript is required as part of the
application process for practitioner licensure. Record of courses completed can be
requested by email to either Nicole Hedlof, Education Program Coordinator at
[email protected] or Misha Brigham, Online Education Program Coordinator, at
The Professional Practitioner Education Exam grade is valid for one year after
completion. If a student passes the exam but chooses not to license, the exam will
remain on record for one year. After this time the student will be required to retake
the exam if applying for licensure as a Practitioner.
Responsibility for Adhering to Time Requirements: It is the Member Community’s responsibility to
verify that time limits have been adhered to and that course work that was previously taken is
appropriately registered at CSL before permitting registration into any additional course.
Variances to these Requirements/Recommendations: The Senior Minister/Spiritual Director of a
Member Community may make a request of the Department of Education for a variance to any of these
policies.

SECTION II
CERTIFICATED AND NON-CERTIFICATED SCIENCE OF MIND CURRICULUM PATHWAYS OF EDUCATION
A student may either pursue a certificated course of study in preparation to becoming a Professional
Practitioner or Minister in Centers for Spiritual Living (CSL) or take any certificated or non-certificated
course for personal growth and understanding.
PROFESSIONAL PRACTITIONER STUDIES PROGRAM SEE THE CSL POLICIES & PROCEDURES, SECTIONS 10.2 AND 10.3 FOR REQUIREMENTS FOR ENTERING PRACTITIONER STUDIES
Beginning in September 2012, the Professional Practitioner Studies Program is offered in two
courses, Practitioner I and Practitioner II, over a two-year period. Both courses may be taken either
in a Member Community or, where there are no such communities nearby, through the Centers for
Spiritual Living Online Education Program.
In order to be eligible for entry into the Professional Practitioner Studies Program, the student must
have completed and have registered all required courses, a minimum of 6, as specified in CSL’s Policies
and Procedures Manual. The required courses are summarized on the next page.
At the start of Practitioner Training: The Practitioner Instructor must submit a Practitioner Verification
Form no later than 30 days after the first class for all students entering into Practitioner I. This is to
ensure that the minimum requirements have been met upon entry into Practitioner Training. The
Practitioner Verification Form is located at the end of this catalog or as a single form on the CSL
Education website, www.csl.org/Education.
Before entry into Practitioner II:
Prior to the start of every Practitioner II course, the Practitioner Instructor is required to submit the
completed Practitioner II Student List Form. This form ensures that all Practitioner II classes and
instructors receive important communication from Home Office regarding exams, panels and licensing
as well as continues the process of student record check. This form is located at the end of this catalog
or as a single form on the CSL Education website, www.csl.org/Education.
During the Practitioner II Course: At the end of the Practitioner II course, students who intend to
license as Practitioners with Centers for Spiritual Living are required to complete and pass the
Professional Practitioner Education Exam. This exam will test the students’ knowledge of all course
material from the foundational level through Practitioner II.
25
Students who do not intend to license as Practitioner with Centers for Spiritual Living are not required
to complete the exam. Students may elect not to complete the exam but can still receive credit for the
Practitioner II course, should all other course requirements be met. Should a student who previously
elected not to complete the exam choose to license in the future, a current passing grade for the exam
is required.
Please note that the grade for the Professional Practitioner Exam is valid for one year after completion.
After this time the student will be required to retake the exam if applying for licensure as a Practitioner.
Administering the Exam
It required that the exam be proctored. Member Communities may elect to have the instructor of the
Practitioner II course proctor the exam within the classroom or may elect to administer the exam
outside of the classroom with a proctor other than the instructor.
Should your Member Community have a student completing the exam with a Disability, all ADA
requirements must be met to accommodate this student. Please reference the ADA Testing
Accommodations website for more information. CSL can work with any Member Community that may
need assistance in providing appropriate accommodations as necessary.
ADA Testing Accommodations Website: https://www.ada.gov/regs2014/testing_accommodations.html
CSL Support: [email protected]
Centers for Spiritual Living Education Department considers 80% a passing grade for the Professional
Practitioner Education Exam. If students do not meet the criteria for a passing grade, the following
options are available to the instructor for students who do not score an 80% or higher on the
Practitioner Education Exam:
Exam Retest Students who do not pass the exam on the first attempt may retake the exam in an effort to receive a passing grade.
Education Requirements Set appropriate education or relevant requirements for students before moving the student through the Licensing Process. Member Communities may add additional courses to support the student in becoming a successful Practitioner before sponsoring the candidate for licensing. Students will also need to retake the Practitioner Education Exam until a passing grade is met.
Student Specific Options Practitioner Instructors may contact CSL Education Manager, Rev. Nicole Merges at [email protected], for additional or unique options for students.
26
Submitting Grades to Home Office Once Member Communities have administered both the Professional Practitioner Education Exam and the Licensing Questionnaire, this information needs to be submitted to Home Office. Please complete the Practitioner Exam & Licensing Questionnaire Grade Form & Panel Information form. This form is to be sent to the Education Department at [email protected]. (All information will be shared with the Licensing and Credentialing Department.) No Practitioner Candidate will be able to License without this information on file.
At time of Practitioner Licensing: Students who complete Practitioner II and are ready to license must
have a complete transcript, having fulfilled all educational requirements for licensing as well as a passing
exam grade completed within the last 12 months. Only students with a complete transcript will be
eligible for licensing. Please contact Misha Brigham, Online Education Coordinator at [email protected]
to check the status of educational records.
Incomplete transcripts may be updated to complete. Centers should work with the Education
Department directly to make sure transcripts are accurate and complete. Licenses will be issued to new
practitioners once transcripts are complete and accurate.

From Whence We Came
If you like history, then From Whence We Came is a course you will find most interesting. You won't have to memorize dates or place names. The history is one of ideas which converged in American culture to become what we now know as Religious Science and the larger New Thought movement. These ideas originally arose before recorded history, but were rediscovered in the 19th century by some notable people whose works are read and discussed in this course. These great luminaries of New Thought were the first to frame them in words and make them accessible to the general public. Released in 2012.

beginning with the formation of the universe and ending with a vista of infinite possibilities

of our own being, to take a more active part in our personal evolution than has ever occurred in the

Financial Freedom
The Principles of Financial Freedom is a recently updated course of metaphysical instruction that
utilizes money as a tool for engaging in a program of deep inner healing. It incorporates leading edge
technologies in 'whole brain' and 'whole body' learning that make these highly effective materials very
user friendly. The course specifically teaches students to duplicate the nature of Spirit in their 'financial
affairs' by developing new attitudes and beliefs about money that are in alignment with Principles of
Spiritual Truth. At the same time, weekly healing segments assist the students in developing the
awareness necessary to release self-defeating patterns of behavior based on old 'error beliefs' about
their money and their lives.

Ignite Your Life with Bible Wisdom
Jesus used short stories called parables to convey profound spiritual truths. The parables charge our
spiritual journey with energy and our soul with light. During this course, students are introduced to
ways to interpret stories from the Hebrew Bible, as a foundation for understanding the teachings of
Jesus. Students become familiar with the power of parable stories as inspiration for transforming the
soul. Students bring the ancient parables to life, and relate them to the challenges of today’s world
as they engage in discussions, role-playing, and problem-solving exercises, as well as creative arts
expressions. Students may be beginners in exploring the arts as tools for contemplation and
meditation.

It's All God (SOM 218)
In his book, It's All God, Walter Starcke has managed to take one of metaphysics greatest truths and put it into a form and flow of words, which is easy to grasp. Starcke has done a masterful job of clarifying the necessity of finding a realistic balance between living in the Absolute and the Relative world: It’s not a matter of “one or the other”, but rather, discovering the key to doing both at the same time. His concept of the Double Thread is the key element.

It answers questions like, “Why haven’t I completely healed, even though I have been using Spiritual Mind Treatment for years? How do we deal with fear that comes up before and after treatments? How can we embrace our shadow while affirming our divinity?” Magic of the Soul asks students to affirm and experience their inner divinity and at the same time honor their humanness and appreciate the beauty of who they are in the here and now, on their path to higher and higher expressions of divine nature. The most common theme throughout the text is to look for the magic, the opportunity for growth, and the sacredness in every situation in life, especially the challenging ones.

The Regional Support Coordinator has 2 options for signing Certificated Course Certificates of Completion: 1.) The Regional Support Coordinator can provide Home Office with an electronic signature. This signature
will be printed onto the certificates by Home Office. Certificates are then sent directly from Home
Office to the Member Community to be distributed to students.
2.) The Regional Support Coordinator can opt not to provide the electronic signature. In this case,
certificates will be generated without a signature and sent directly to the RSC to sign. Home Office will
