PHILOSOPHY OF THE WORLD LANGUAGE PROGRAM

Westminster Academy®

The World Language program goals are based on the most current State of Florida and National Standards. Our program strives to offer our students an integrated view of World Languages, their history, and culture from a Biblical perspective. In view of the current communication trends and technology, it is increasingly important to understand language comprehensively and encompass the whole of the culture. We also give priority to the integration of the target language with the overall curriculum through the use of pertinent thematic units. We emphasize the importance of applying and utilizing the acquired knowledge and skills of the target language outside of the school community, and as a tool not only for use in future career opportunities, butand as a tool to carry out the Great Commission (Matt. 28:18-20).and bring the light of Christ’s Word to the world.

STRANDS FOR FOREIGN LANGUAGE

Westminster Academy®

The COMMUNICATION strand promotes the ability to use, understand and interpret language.

The CULTURES strand promotes understanding and appreciation of different cultural perspectives.

The CONNECTIONS strand promotes, reinforces, and expands knowledge in connection with other subject areas.

The COMMUNITIES (LIFE APPLICATIONS) strand explores the impact of the target language and culture on the student’s daily life.
