River Sun Farm
River Sun Farm is a newly developed
small farm in the Cool Spring area of Ire-
dell County, North Carolina. The farm is
specializing in vegetables, small fruit,
mushrooms and cut flower production.
Our goal as a small farm is to provide lo-
cally grown, fresh, high quality food for lo-
cal residents while following organic prac-
tices. Long term, we hope to offer year
round food supply by producing dried
foods and winter storage crops.
On a personal note, our goal is to teach
our children the importance of where our
food comes from. Having a child grow up
learning the techniques of healthy food
production will provide a sense of confi-
dence in their adult life. Being able to pro-
duce their own food for themselves and
others is a skill and talent that is rapidly
being lost. As parents, we do not know if
they will choose to participate in agricul-
ture as they grow, but we do know that we
want to supply them with that option.
What is a CSA Share?
Community Supported Agriculture, or
CSA, is a way to connect consumers to
farmers and more importantly to where
and how your food is grown. As your
farmer, we commit to grow a large variety
of vegetables, fruits (when available),
herbs and flowers without the use of syn-
thetic pesticides, herbicides or fertilizers.
As a CSA member, you agree to pur-
chase a share in advance to the growing
season while accepting the risk that coin-
cides with agriculture.
How long is the season?
During the CSA season, farm members
receive fresh vegetables through the
summer totaling 20 weeks of produce at
$25.00 per week. Extended season (6
weeks) and cut flower shares (20 weeks)
are also available as additional options.
What will you receive with your purchase?
One CSA share is comprised of approxi-
mately 10 different vegetables each
week (depending on the season) that will
weigh around 10 lbs., or be equivalent to
a grocery bag full of vegetables. A share
can supply food for two vegetable lovers
or a family of four. You can choose to
buy a half share or purchase a whole
share and split it with a loved one.
How do I get my share?
Your box will be available for pick up at
one of two locations. 1) on the farm on
Mondays from 4:00 - 6:00pm. The farm is
located on Old Mocksville Road about 3
miles from Davis Hospital. Maps will be
given at purchase. 2) At The Evening
Farmers Market on Thursday evenings
between 4:00 - 6:00 pm. The market is
located in downtown Statesville, NC at
Pecan Park. Other options may become
available upon request.
