The orchestra provides a chamber experience for youth string players and introduces them to a variety of music and styles. Students are encouraged to reach musical excellence personally and as an ensemble. SYSO’s smaller ensembles allow for a personalized approach to teaching as well as opportunities for leadership and solo work that may not be available in larger ensembles. Director: Phil Scales.

Plant and grow the seed of music from a young age! Children will play percussion instruments, have opportunitiesto lead class with the teacher, and gain exposure to piano and woodwind instruments. Sing, dance, wiggle, and make new friends. Interact with your child one-on-one or bring the whole family for this fun-fi lled class at the Schauer Center. Instructor: Celia Meisel.
Monday, March 18 - Saturday, March 23A special one-week intensive drama workshop for youth in grades 5K-12 that culminates in two public performances. A fully staged and costumed musical adaptation of The Secret Garden will showcase the talents of 50+ local youth. Instructor: Missoula Children’s Theatre Faculty.
Auditions: Monday, March 18 • 4:15 pm Registration begins at 3:45 pm in the Schauer Center main lobby. Auditions are held as a group and last approximately 90-120 min. Audition is required for participation. There is NO FEE to audition.

Children’s Choir • 5:30-6:15 pmGrades: K5-2 • Tuition: $100Class Size: Min 12 / Max 25An introductory choir that provides young singers the opportunity to sing in rounds, canons, partner songs, and songs of other cultures. Students will use rhythm instruments and movement activities to reinforce and develop singing skills. No experience or concert dress attire required. Director: TBA.
Youth Choir • 5:30-6:30 pmGrades: 3-8 • Tuition: $159Class Size: Min 15 / Max 35Our purpose is to enrich the lives of children and their families by creating a community of young vocalists, by teaching good vocal habits including posture, breath, and tone. Students learn musical skills such as rhythm, harmony, sight-reading, and listening. Vocal selections are chosen to allow singers to grow year-round focusing on vocal, reading, and part-singing skills. No audition required; Student’s vocal ability will be assessed at rehearsal. A unique arts enrichment opportunity exclusively for Girl Scouts! An interactive day of multi-disciplinary arts education, featuring four 50-minute workshops in dance, music, theater, and visual arts instructed by professional teaching artists. The one-day intensive program challenges students to think big and create bigger, helping to discover their inner voice and explore their artistic potential. Students will gain positive values such as cooperation and self-confi dence.

Creative Movement Introduction to ballet and movement exploration. Must be potty-trained with independent bathroom habits.
Ballet/Tap Combo Introduction to basic ballet and tap techniques. Must have had Creative Movement or minimum age 5 to enroll.
Ballet Integrate styles, methods, and technique from different ballet schools. Learn what your body is capable of and how to utilize your own strength.
Tap Gain rhythm, strength, balance, and coordination by learning tap technique and fundamentals.
Funk Elements of jazz dance technique with funky street-style hip-hop movement.
Lyrical/Modern Combination of ballet, modern, and jazz. One or more years of Ballet experience required.
Irish Dance Fundamentals of the Jig, Reel, Ceilis (team dancing), Slipjig, and beginning components of hard shoe. Build strength, fl exibility, and coordination. Purchase of Irish soft shoe required.
Just Dance Explore movement and rhythm through jazz, ballet, and funk. Focus on breathing and posture during ballet/jazz warm-ups followed by fun combinations. No experience required.

Academy at Civic Theatre (ACT) is the educational arm of Waukesha Civic Theatre. ACT strives to heighten students sense of cultural literacy through fl exing their creative muscle, hoping they will become future patrons, donors, volunteers, and ambassadors for the arts. Instructor: Doug Jarecki.

Founded in January 2007, the School of Dance focuses on building students’ dance abilities through the development of a strong technical foundation. Classes are held at the Creative Arts Studios (30 S. Johnson Street) unless noted.

The E&I Fund is a self-sustaining fund independent of the Schauer Center’s operating budget. Individuals or organizations can make donations through the Schauer Center to support the growth and development of this educational resource.

Friends of the Schauer CenterHelp support our mission of “developing, supporting, and promoting the arts” by becoming a Friend of the Schauer Center. The Schauer Center relies on annual contributions from individuals to support and expand the educational opportunities that we offer. The Community School of the Arts is only partially supported by tuition fees. Much of the programming and operational support comes from donors who are dedicated to making the arts accessible to all. Further develop your creativity and enjoy the company of other self-motivated artists in this master teacher guided studio. Deadline for Registration: Please register two weeks prior to the start date for any given program. Enrollment levels are evaluated at this time and class may be cancelled if minimum enrollment isn’t met.
Class Size: All CSA classes carry a minimum/maximum class size that determines if the class will be offered. Classes not meeting the minimum may be cancelled. Maximum levels are determined by classroom space or instructor/student ratios.
Refunds: A 50% refund of the tuition in the form of a gift certifi cate will be in effect through the second class/rehearsal. After the second class, NO REFUNDS.
Financial Aid: Need based assistance is offered on a fi rst come, fi rst serve basis. Applications available upon request.
pARTicipate - Referral Program: With each class registration, you will receive a $10 coupon to pass on to someone else. For each coupon redeemed, you will be entered to win a $50 gift certifi cate to use on a future class tuition.
10% Discount is offered to Friends of the Schauer Center, residents living within the boundaries of the West Bend School District with support from the West Bend Community Foundation, or if registering for more than one class in a session. Discount applies to the lesser value class. One-day workshops under $40 are NOT subject to 10% multiple class/sibling discount.
Payment Plans may be arranged with the Schauer Center for any class over $100. A minimum of 25% of the tuition fee must be paid prior to the start of the fi rst class/rehearsal. Payment plans must be paid with a credit or debit card, and completed agreement must be turned into the Schauer Center prior to the fi rst day of class.
Waiting Areas: Creative Arts Studios - Adults and children may wait in the designated waiting area. Children should not be left unattended in this space. Food and drink are allowed. Schauer Center - Due to numerous activities, event set-up, and valuable artwork on display, the Schauer Center prohibits parents from waiting in the Gallery (second fl oor) after dropping children off for class(es). If a parent chooses to stay on premises for the duration of a child’s class, the Schauer Center requests that parents wait on the lower lobby level.

String Masterclass with The MealiesFriday, February 22 • Time TBDA collaboration between guitarist/singer/songwriter Willy Porter and the Carpe Diem String Quartet, The Mealies have created an ensemble outside of their own identities. Comprised of violins, viola, cello, guitar, and vocals, The Mealies bring the refi nement of a string quartet together with songwriting rock.
Tap Masterclass with TAP: The ShowSaturday, April 6 • Time TBDClass Size: Min 5 / Max 15A celebration of tap dance from around the globe. Fueled by non-stop rhythmic energy, the dancers and singers travel from Broadway and big band to world music and pop/rock. Each section brings to life iconic tap moments, including Fred Astaire and Gene Kelly numbers, soft shoe, fl amenco, tribal, and Irish step dancing.
