Selection criteria for joining JPIAMR

CRITERIA• Research expertise and infrastructure• Global geographical representation• Demonstrated interested in JPIAMR SRA -

Countries must be interested to act in at leastone of the pillars?

• Ability (and acceptance) to engage in globalresearch cooperation

• Surveillance infrastructure already in placeto link to other countries (now or in nearfuture)

• Able to provide in-kind or new funding• Existence of AMR National Action plan

Competition - Others are also working on AMR.Must demand something to the new/current members (engagement)Concerns about duplication.JPIAMR focus should remain Focus on Research.High political attention and traction on AMR at this time. We can make a home to the countries thatcan step up their activities because of the political momentum.Startup package to include a questionnaire to understand their needs but also what make themaware of our expectations.Do we really need to be larger? Without a global reach, the fight against AMR can’t succeed.Growing to have a better impact – not just to have a larger membership. More then numbers!Six pillars must stay – our agenda can’t be singling out only one area. However, they can beprioritized according to country needs.We need to have a strategy on how we approach potential new members. We need to map (!!!)

Scaling is criticalJPIAMR doesn’t actively recruit members. The latest members have asked to join. Countries thathave close relation with EC already.Previous decision by board to only have High and Medium income countries. No Low incomecountries.Informing on development of calls (different kinds of calls – different interests– different traction)

• How do we distinguish/focus ourselves, make our selves a recognized player? What do we haveto offer, especially to low capacity member states? (which pillars to particularly select whenapproaching new members – hence the questionnaire)

• JPIAMR is the only group that acts in AMR with One health approach focused onresearch, support research, portfolio of activities. We are known to the community. Wehave experience working with our members. Excellent track record. Establishedconsortium.

• To improve communication – no major scientific conference to date organized byJPIAMR.

Questions:• Strategy?….Next countries to target?• Do we only accept new funds or are inkind contribution acceptable?• High and medium income countries(??) As per decision of the MB, only high and medium income

countries. (to verify with Secretariat from exact minutes of when this was approved)• What would be the proper min number of countries per continent? (crucial for surveillance pillar for

instance)• What is the scientific question we want to address – then that will guide our efforts.• What‘s in it for them? (what are the drivers that would engage them to join, and join actively,

what is our offering right now)?• What are the incentives for them to join?

– Call setup, access to more scientific expertise, larger cohort of patients, increase powerof research

• Risk balance – if too dilutate• Is the expectation to have funding in cash only or is inkind funding only acceptable?• Are we connecting with other funders (such as Wellcome Trust) or do we try to separate from

those?• Currently, the countries that have funding capacity are those joining. Is this how it should remain?• Aside from the website, what kind of informational package do potential members get? What is

our marketing strategy really? How are we putting it out there?
