EDITORIAL DESK

Warm greetings to all the readers! The editorial committee is very happy

to come out with the half-yearly issue of E-Newsletter. We take this

opportunity to thank the Management, Dean and other contributors to

this newsletter for their continuous support.

CS & IT Department of Mazoon College is proud to release its

first volume of this newsletter. It was a great moment for the faculty and

students of CS & IT to publish their research papers in various journals.

Last 6 months also witnessed various other activities that would

build the image of the Department which include Guest Lectures,

Industrial Visit, Seminars, Workshops and active participation by the

students in extra-curricular and co-curricular activities.

A lot more interesting events are in queue and we believe that the

continued efforts will take Mazoon College one step further towards

achieving excellence.

WORKSHOPS AND SEMINARS ORGANIZED

Seminar on “Introduction to Ethical Hacking”

The seminar on “Introduction to Ethical Hacking” was conducted

by the Department of CS & IT on 05/07/2017. The seminar session was given and coordinated by Mr. Kareemullah Shaik, Lecturer. The seminar commenced with a brief introduction on ethical hacking, process of

ethical hacking and its effects on software field, later. Students listened with enthusiasm and understand the theme of ethical hacking. Presenter

also suggested some certification programs on ethical hacking and job opportunities in market.

Seminar on “Internet of Things: Concepts and Techniques”

The seminar on “Internet of Things: Concepts and Techniques” was

conducted by the Department of CS & IT on 16/10/2017. Eng. Ghalib Ali Al –Abri, Founder & GM, Rafed Communication Technologies was invited to deliver the Seminar on “Internet of Things : Concepts and

Techniques”. Speaker has introduced about IoT, Big Data, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Virtual reality and Augmented Reality,

the relation between these technologies and IoT.

The program was coordinated by Mr. Kareemullah Shaik, Lecturer.

Workshop on “Data Visualization”

Workshop on “Data Visualization” was conducted by the Department of CS & IT on 07/11/2017. The program was convened by

Mr.Mohammad Arshad, Lecturer. The speaker Dr. E. Ben George, HCT, Muscat started the lecture on Data Visualization and Tableau software. He clearly explained about “How data are stored at Social Media?” and “How to

visualize the data?” He gave the hands on training for data visualization using Tableau Software.

Seminar on “Cloud Computing”

The seminar on “Cloud Computing” was conducted by the Department of CS & IT on 06/11/2017. The session was given and

coordinated by Mr.Meble Varghese, Lecturer. The seminar included the Cloud computing architecture layers, characteristics, service models, virtualization, opportunities and challenges of cloud computing.

Seminar “Cyber Security”

The seminar on “Cyber Security” was conducted by the Department

of CS & IT on 08/11/2017. The seminar was coordinated by Mrs. Rowaidah Al Abdullah, Lecturer. The session was presented by Mr. Khalid Al Amrani, Security Analyst, Information Technology Authority.

Mr. Khalid delivered the awareness and guidance seminars and discussed the following topics: Information Security, Information Protection,

Hacking and Intrusions, Electronic Blackmail, Email Fraud and Fraud on Other Electronic Mediums.

Seminar on “Augmented Reality”

The Seminar on “Augmented Reality” was conducted by the

Department of CS & IT on 15/11/2017. The seminar was given and

coordinated by Ms. Gazala Yusufi, Lecturer. The presenter covered the working of Augmented Reality systems, its display techniques, it’s comparison to Virtual Reality systems as well as it’s applications. The presenter informed the participants about the latest trends in Augmented Reality and how to apply it in education and other disciplines.

Seminar on “Mobile Application Development”

The seminar on “Mobile Application Development” was conducted by the Department of CS & IT on 13/11/2017. The speakers Mr. V.ShanthaMoorthy and Ms. Beenish Shafi were explained about

the statistics of mobile applications in Sultanate of Oman. They were given the details of training process in mobile applications at ITA, KOM, Muscat. They were invited one alumni of ITA for explaining the

importance and stages of mobile application development process. Finally, the students were interacted with the speakers.

Seminar on “Python Programming”

The seminar on “Python Programming” was conducted by the

Department of CS & IT on 30/11/2017. The seminar was given and coordinated by Mr. Kareemulla Shaik, Lecturer. The seminar commenced with a brief introduction on python programming followed by its uses,

advantage and application areas. Students are able know how useful is this programming language in many applications like simulations, latest technologies namely Augmented reality, IoT, virtual reality and machine

learning.

Seminar on “Information Security”

The seminar on “Information Security” was conducted by the Department of CS & IT on 11/12/2017. The session was handled by Dr.

Mohammad Aftab Alam and Mr. Mohammad Arshad. The presenters were given the basic principles of Information Security from the perspective of providing security awareness and its best practices for the

real world. Discussion about Information Security Awareness reinforcing the essential Internet safety rules: Why Cyber Security is Important, Cyber usage at home and school, User Credential Protection, Personal

Computer Security

STUDENT ORIENTATION PROGRAM ORGANIZED

Orientation Programme for 3rd Level Students in GFP on

Academic Registration

Under the supervision of Dr. Mohamed Abbas, the Head of the Computer Science and Information Technology Department, the

Admission and Registration Department conducted an orientation presentation on Academic Registration on 13th December 2017.

At the beginning, Mr. Mohamed El-Amin, the Head of the General

Foundation Program, briefly addressed the audience to encourage them

to prioritize their awareness of the academic registration process. He also urged the students to work hard during this crucial transitional period between their GFP and academic studies.

Ms. Thuraya Al-Abri, the Head of the Admission and Registration

Department, gave a comprehensive and detailed account of the process of academic registration. Ms. Al-Abri’s presentation included discussing the Academic Calendar, academic advising, online registration, and students’

portals. Additionally, she drew the students’ attention to make the maximum use of the flexibility provided by the American educational

system implemented at Mazoon College.

The MTech and MBA new students’ orientation programme was

held on 27/09/2017.

New Staff Orientation

Dr. Toukeer Khan joined in CS & IT Department as a Faculty

Member on 14/09/2017. The new faculty’s campus tour was given by the Mr. Mohammad Arshad, Lecturer. The procedure and process of the

Department work explained by the Mr. Abdul Muqtadir, Senior Lecturer and Dept. Coordinator.

FACULTY ORIENTATION PROGRAM ORGANIZED

Staff Orientation Program on “Registration Procedure for Spring 2018 Semester”

The Staff Orientation Program on “Registration Procedure for Spring 2018 Semester” was conducted by the Department of CS & IT along with Admission and Registration Department on 29/11, 11/12,

13/12 and 14/12/2017. Dr. Abbas conveyed to the faculty members about the previous procedure for academic advising and the proposed

procedure for academic advising.

INDUSTRIAL VISIT

The Department of Computer Science and Information Technology, Mazoon College has arranged one day industrial visit for the undergraduate student to explore IT DEPT at AHLI BANK HEAD OFFICE,

Muscat. The trip was an indispensable part of under graduate program that help students to get insights into the real world IT-Infrastructure

where students try to get an exposure of the latest HARDWARE, NETWORK & SOFTWARE technologies that students studies in the different course of the program. A group of 12 students from Mazoon

College participated in the Industrial Visit, led by Ms. Ruwaida Al Abdullah, Coordinator, Mr. Abdul Muqatadir, and Mr. Mohammed Arshad.

Mazoon College is a private academic institution that has operated under the supervision of the Ministry of Higher Education since 1997.

It was established to provide higher education nationally and internationally in different fields. At present, it has eight programs at undergraduate level and two programs at postgraduate level. The College gives high school graduates, international students, and employees the chance to gain the educational skills and the high technology to cope with the ever-changing modern development.
