BECAUSE OUR CAUSE
“After feeling depressed and having some health issues, I began to gain weight which started to affect my
health. I had issues completing my daily activities, and not being able to work due to my health issues which was
taking a “toll” on me. My challenges were eating healthy, being active enough to complete daily activities. So I
was referred to a behavioral health care center so they can assess my mental health, and a primary physician to
evaluate my medical issues to determine what activities I was able to do. The physicians encouraged me to join
The Gateway Family YMCA, so I started to go to the gym three (3) times a week, and began losing weight. Along
with being medication compliant, and working out at the gym, I lost sixty five (65) pounds, which helped me with
my breathing and daily activities. Thanks to the Elizabeth Y, my overall health and eating habits has improved
and now I can complete all daily activities.” - Tiara, Member
The Y is a positive force in this community. Together, we take on the challenges that shape our
community’s future. From tackling the achievement gap to teaching healthy habits for a lifetime or
giving people the chance to strengthen our community through volunteering; everything the Y does
is in service of building a better us. Every day, our community faces new challenges that create a
greater need for the work we do. YMCA donors, volunteers, members, and partners like you
make the difference. Your gift can help our community, and everyone in it, shine. Everything
the Y does is in service of making us – as individuals and a community – better.
Our Annual Support Campaign is one of those opportunities that helps provide
financial resources to those who have a need and desire to become a part of our YMCA family. It
helps send a child to camp, involve seniors in wellness programs and provides support to families in
need of child care. The 2015 Annual Support Campaign goal is $30,000 and as of October 6th, I am
pleased to announce that we have currently raised $20,774!
We look forward to your involvement and remember: Every gift makes a difference.
