Hmong New Year

Happens once a year in November. It is a time of great celebration for our Hmong community. In an effort to educate ourselves about other cultures and to show our families that we support them, we went to the Hmong New Year celebration. Our students were excited to see us at this event. It was a new cultural experience, and took us out of our comfort zone. We ate Hmong food, observed the traditional Hmong ball game, and walked around and enjoyed the beautiful traditional Hmong attire.

During Read Your Heart Out, families read to students in every classroom. They visited our library and were able to select from hundreds of Culturally Relevant titles. Harambee Information Harambee is a school wide community building time that happens twice a month. During this time students gather in small multi-age groups to learn about the current principle. We have seven principles that we are working on. We spend two months on each principle. We try to incorporate these principles in other areas throughout our school, and become familiar with the concepts.
