Print out the blank chart at the back ofthe pattern. You may need to makemore than one copy and tape themtogether. Use a pencil for marking thechart, and a highlighter if desired.
If customizing an existing pattern, select the area surrounding the word orsection to be replaced. In this image to replace the word "wine" in the"Maybe Wine Will Help" pattern, the area chosen is 60 stitches wide and 20stitches high.
On your printed blank chart, mark thesame size area as in step 2 (in this case, 60x20 stitches). Mark the border witha pencil or highlighter. In theseinstructions this marked-off section willbe indicated as A.

Outside of your marked area, draw thebase line for your alphabet. This is theblue line marked on the alphabet chart.Using the alphabet chart as a reference,start drawing out your letters next toeach other, making sure to match thebase line. Once finished, you may needto make some minor adjustments tohow letters connect with each other ina word.
Once your word is done, calculate thelength of the finished word. Draw a linein the centre of the word (shown herewith a highlighted line). Also mark thecentre of the upper marked-off section(A).
Note: if other letters are crossing intothis section, make sure to draw them aswell. You can see these parts of lettersin the image in step 2 above "wine."
Draw your base line in A (taking intoaccount any tall or long letters).Matching up the centre lines, draw yourword into A, making any adjustments asneeded to not touch existing letters inthe pattern. Once you're happy with thelayout, use this chart to stitch from forthis section of your pattern.
