Crooble Chronicle May 2013 Hello All, Well, I am almost recovered from the whirlwind that was the Annual Country Women’s Association State Conference, held in Moree last week. Judging by the feedback, a fabulous time was had by all, and the local businesses enjoyed the benefits of several hundred women (some with their families), enjoying the services and shopping in the thriving metropolis of Moree. A huge pat on the back to the Croppa Dads who put together some spectacular meals on Saturday night, a great night out! Ed HELP KOALAS LIVING IN OUR BACKYARD Koalas are native to the Moree area. A recent meeting of local landholders and interested community members held in Moree revealed about twenty recent sightings of the threatened marsupial across the area. Border Rivers-Gwydir CMA Catchment Officer Leah MacKinnon says Koalas have been seen in the Ashley, Pallamallawa, Tareelaroi Weir, Crooble and Croppa Creek areas in the last three months and have also been seen around Terry Hie Hie and the Gil Gil Creek in the past. “These locations have been included on a regional Koala map currently being developed by the BRGCMA which is being used to develop a more comprehensive picture of what’s happening to our koalas, and where the best patches of koala habitat are located”. Members of the public who have observed Koalas in their local area and have specific information on the location are encouraged to contact the CMA as koalas are classified as a Vulnerable Species. A number of projects aimed at supporting and caring for Koalas are currently being run by the BRGCMA and Expressions of Interest are now invited from individuals or groups and need to be submitted to the Border Rivers-Gwydir CMA before 20th May. Please contact Leah MacKinnon at the BRGCMA Moree office on 02 6757 2559 or email: [email protected] To download the Expression of Interest form, visit www.brg.cma.nsw.gov.au and click on “Working with us”. Local personality Mark Canham had a ‘knees up’ at the CWA Conference Gala Event held at the Moree Town and Country Club last week, with the girls from Land Cookery!

Joke for the Day A husband had just finished reading a new book entitled, "You Can Be THE Man of Your House." He stormed to his wife in the kitchen and announced, "From now on, you need to know that I am the man of this house and my word is Law. You will prepare me a gourmet meal tonight, and when I'm done eating my meal, you will serve me a scrumptious dessert. After dinner, you are going to go upstairs with me and we will have the kind of sex that I want! Afterwards, you are going to draw me a bath so I can relax. You will wash my back and towel me dry and bring me my robe. Then, you will massage my feet and hands. Then tomorrow, guess who's going to dress me and comb my hair?" The wife replied, "The @#%&* funeral director would be my first guess."

We need your help on LLS NSW Farmers is continuing to represent you on one of NSW’s largest agricultural issues - the future of our extension services and the proposed Local Land Services (LLS) agency. We are working hard behind the scenes to make sure your views are represented. It is now crunch time and the Minister for Primary Industries will be making decisions in the next few weeks about the boundaries and structure of the LLS so now is the time to make some noise. If you feel strongly about this issue and want to get active so your voice is heard, we urge you to email or post a letter or make a call to your local member and to the Minister for Primary Industries Katrina Hodgkinson about the new LLS. We have attached some speaking points for you as well as a briefing note (including graphics) which you can use as a guide. NSW Farmers has held several meetings with the Minister’s office and sent a formal letter to her explaining our major concerns with the reference panel’s proposal for the new LLS. We have also had several misrepresentations cleared up which were made about the positions we took on the reference panel and reported on the NSW Government’s Have Your Say website.
