Green Class 27 JUNE 2016

This term, Green class students have been consolidating all the skills they’ve learned this semester. Green class students have enjoyed “being safe” while out in the community: wearing hats, staying with the group and crossing the road safely. All of the students have enjoyed our train trips this semester, and are independently ‘tapping on and off’ with their opal cards, waiting safely on the platforms and being considerate to members of the public on the train.

On Tuesday afternoon, Green class students have been “learning together” with Yellow class, to develop skills needed for Cricket: keeping their eyes on the ball and 2 hands on the bat, when batting. All the students have improved significantly through all of their hard work over the term. We have also been keeping active, and recording our physical activity for the Premier’s sporting challenge. We have managed to reach our target of a minimum of 20 minutes of physical activity a day for the last 5 weeks.

We hope everyone continues to

stay active over the holidays and

enjoys the time off!

Welcome to week 10 and the final newsletter for term two.

Last Wednesday our school had a very successful incursion with “Professor Maths”. This was a hands on event which engaged all of our students in a range of fun activities linked to Mathematics. All students from Kindergarten to year 12 participated and every student participated in the session using a range of concrete materials to learn about maths. We are very grateful to our P&C who funded the event enabling the inclusion of every student in this activity which would have been at significant cost to parents and the school.

Our senior students participated in an end of term excursion to Chinatown and the Chinese Gardens of Friendship at Darling harbour last Friday. This excursion concluded the senior schools term two theme “Countries of the World. They travelled by train to Town Hall Station then visited the Chinese Garden of Friendship near Darling Harbour. Following the visit to the Chinese Garden they walked to a multicultural food court at Market City to have lunch. It was a very successful excursion as our photo gallery illustrates.

A new NDIS Ready webpage has just been launched at www.ndis.gov.au/ndis-ready. This includes a link to the new My NDIS Pathway – a guide to being an NDIS participant, and other resources including videos. Please take a minute to clink on the link and watch the short video in regards to NDIS and how this will affect you. I have included the notice regarding this later in the

newsletter again with the link to take you to the site.

Semester one reports will be sent home to parents this week. The report outlines your child’s progress in both their individual educational goals and the class program across all curriculum areas. Early in term three we will be inviting you to meet with your child’s teacher to discuss progress of the individual goals for your child for the second half of this year. We value your input into these meetings which will be linked to the semester one report.

Finally, I would like to wish all of our students and families a restful break from the usual school routine. School resumes for students on Tuesday 19 July and I look forward to another productive semester at Cromehurst School.

Work Experience

To increase independence and in preparation for post school environments, our school has made connections with various post services where work experience is offered to senior students. This term, Nancy and Luke worked at House with No Steps; Scott, Oliver and Cameron did work experi-ence at Packforce; and Hannah went to Fighting Chance.

Each of these work places offers different levels of support and work for our students. Our students always look forward to Thursday work experience, where they thoroughly enjoy the work they do.

We also provide in-school work experience where students take charge of jobs to do around the school. April has been taking the roll to and from the office, Alan, Zac and Kalim have been doing the recycling and Luke has been counting the canteen money each week.

Doing jobs around our school and at work experience gives our students a sense of achievement

and success. They love to be given a task, to be supported in completing the task and to be praised

for their efforts. I’m sure they will continue to work hard in the next semester!

Chinese Gardens Excursion Our senior excursion to the Chinese Gardens, Darling Harbour and Market City was a relevant, practi-

cal and engaging end to our countries around the world geography unit. Aqua, Orange and Pink clas-

ses all thoroughly enjoyed learning together on the day. Thank you to Nada, our parent helper, for her

assistance.
