Crodacor WS1- Water-soluble Corrosion Inhibitor PackageCrodacor WS1 is a corrosion inhibitor package that provides excellent ferrous corrosion protection for aqueous lubricants. Crodacor WS1 is a pre-neutralised liquid product that can be added to lubricant formulations at room temperature without the use of amines.

Cast Iron Chip TestThe images below show how Crodacor WS1 performed in the cast iron chip test (ASTM D4627). The test was performed at 1:70 dilution of Crodacor WS1 in 100ppm hardness water. Crodacor WS1 provided full corrosion protection at this dilution (figure 1).

Galvanic Corrosion TestCroda has developed a test method to evaluate the performance of corrosion inhibitors in preventing galvanic corrosion. The test method involves replacing the paper disc used in the cast iron chip test with a stainless steel or aluminium coupon. After the aqueous solution evaporates, the cast iron chips are removed and the rust formation on the panel evaluated.

At a 1:70 dilution of Crodacor WS1 in 100ppm hardness water, Crodacor WS1 provided full corrosion protection (figure 2).

Foam Performance - Waring BlenderFoam performance is critical when formulating metalworking fluids. Additives must not create foam and should not act to stabilise foam. The foaming tendencies of Crodacor WS1 were evaluated using a Waring Blender test. The test solution consisted of 1.5% Crodacor WS1 in 100ppm hardness water.

Crodacor WS1 creates 40% less foam during initial agitation compared to an industry standard corrosion inhibitor (figure 3) and the foam created by Crodacor WS1 collapses faster than that of an industry standard corrosion inhibitor, meaning the foam is less stable (figure 4).
