No Greater Love

A war leaves terrible and sad consequences to the people and the country that

passed through it. Most of the worst consequences are deaths or people wounded. In a

war, the doctors have to assist a lot of emergencies, and it is kind of difficult given the

circumstances, because the doctors count with few tools to help the wounded people, so

the other people that are less wounded or that are not, used to help to the doctors to

assist the wounded. There is where the compassion and friendship appears, because

even it is a sacrifice to help in an emergency, lots of people do that for who they love.

In the article “No Greater Love”, Mansur tells us a story of a small orphanage in

Vietnam in the time of the war. The orphanage was home of some missioners and

children that were killed and wounded during the war, specially a little 8 years old girl,

that was the worst wounded. When two American doctors arrived to help the people,

noticed that the girl was loosing blood, and that needed a transfusion in order to survive,

so they asked to the other children that were in that place. Everyone was afraid of

helping, but then a little boy offered to help with his blood. The boy was crying a lot,

and the doctors didn’t understand why he was crying like that, so then a Vietnamese

nurse arrived and asked the boy the reason of his crying, and he told her that he thought

that he was giving all his blood to the girl, and that he was going to die. The American

doctors surprised asked the boy why he helped believing that he was going to die, and

he answered that because she was his friend.

This story is very touching because of the content of it. Everyone knows how

difficult and painful was the Vietnamese war, and the author expresses it very clear in

the story because of the tone he used and the clear vocabulary. The story is really

impressing because it shows the compassion of a little child, and the author made the

readers live the story for how he tells it. It is understandable because it is based in the

reality, so this makes it more credible.

“No Greater Love” is a very touching story of a boy that wanted to give his life

for a girl, because she was his friend. It is a story that makes me think how a little boy

compassion and friendship can help to safe a life. The message is really nice because it

shows a love action that everyone should do for the people they love, and thinking of it,

even it could be difficult at the beginning for me, I would give my life for the people I

love. Everyone should learn of these love actions so they can apply this to their lifes.
