Objectives• Identify the clinical signs of acute liver failure

following acetaminophen poisoning.• Develop a goal-directed approach for manage-

ment of the critically ill using ScvO2, lactate and dynamic measurement of preload responsiveness.

• Explain pain management strategies for patients following the Enhanced Recovery after Surgery clinical pathway/protocol.

• Discuss evidence-based strategies for traumatic hemorrhagic shock resuscitation.

• Understand the physiological effects of various alcohols on the trauma patient.

• Describe treatment and management of the patient with atrial fibrillation undergoing left atrial appendage occlusion for stroke prevention.

• Discuss the quaternary distributions of injuries to patients involved in an explosion.

• List common nosocomial bacteria which frequently become antibiotic-resistant.

• Describe the relation of energy transfer to the human body and its physiological effects.

• Describe four basic concepts of biomedical ethics to the analysis of clinical cases in critical care.

Continuing Education CreditThe Wichita Medical Research and Education Foundation has contracted with Wesley Medical Center as an approved provider of CNE by the Kansas State Board of Nursing. This course offering is approved for 15 contact hours – or 7.5 contact hours for April 27 and 7.5 contact hours for April 28 – applicable for RN and LPN relicensure, Kansas State Board of Nursing Provider #LT 0085-0327. The Wesley Medical Center Respiratory Care Continuing Education Evaluator has approved this program for 15 contact hours – or 7.5 contact hours for April 27 and 7.5 contact hours for April 28 – Respiratory Continuing Education, on behalf of the Kansas Respiratory Care Society, a chapter society of the AARC providership #029. This continuing education activity was approved for 16 hours – or 8 contact hours for April 27 and 8 contact hours for April 28 – by Wesley Medical Center, an accredited approver of continu-ing education by the Kansas State Board of Emergency Medical Services Program Provider #3369.

Mr. and Mrs. Theodore Gore established and endowed the Gore-Farha Fund for Advanced-Special andContinuing Education in 1980 and 1981. In it, they have honored S. Jim Farha, MD, a well-known Wichita thoracic and cardiovascular surgeon. Principal funding for this conference is provided by Wichita Medical Research and Education Foundation (WMREF), Wichita, Kansas, through the Gore-Farha Endowed Fund. The WMREF is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to the development of new medical skills and knowledge through the support of basic and applied research and education. All symposium accommodations and education program planning are coordinated by Staff Development at Wesley Medical Center on behalf of WMREF.
