ContentsAbout Crick Soft ware

Who we areWe are 30 people committed to creating great software for pupils of all abilities, especially those who struggle with reading or writing, have special needs or who are learning English. Many of us are former teachers, including the founders John & Ann Crick, and we’ve been creating software for more than 20 years.

Where we areMost of us are based in Northampton, England and we also have an office in Westport, Connecticut. Our products are used all over the world; in particular the UK, US, Canada, Australia and New Zealand, and we also have translations in many languages.

What we doWe are best known for Clicker, the most popular literacy software in UK primary schools. We are also known for WriteOnline, which is widely used to help struggling writers in secondary schools. Our software works on Windows, Mac and iPad.

What others say about usBoth the company and our products have received numerous awards, including many Bett and ERA Awards. We get great reviews in the press, and we are proud of all the success stories we receive from schools using our software, many of which are on our website.

How we can help youIf you’re a primary teacher, we’d like to tell you about Clicker 7, the Clicker Apps and the Powered by Clicker resources.

If you’re a secondary teacher, we’d like to tell you about WriteOnline and the WriteOnline App.

We have a team of education consultants who run free seminars, visit schools and deliver training. To find out more, give us a call on 01604 671691.

Organise ideas with Clicker Board Clicker Board is a new, child-friendly planning and organising tool, where pupils manipulate words, pictures and sounds. Easily fl ick between the board and the document while writing, or instantly transform the board into a word bank. It’s great for individuals, for groups and for the whiteboard.

‘‘‘‘

Capture thoughts and rehearse sentences with Voice NotesVoice Notes are a new and powerful way for children to capture their thoughts and ideas. Use Voice Notes to rehearse sentences before writing, or to capture ideas on the fl y. They are saved with the document, so they’re still there when you come back!

Provide personalised writi ng support with Word PoolWhat happens when children need to include unusual words in their writing? With the new Word Pool, you can add any word to Clicker’s knowledge base and ensure it’s pronounced properly by the speech engine, picked up by the predictor and accepted by the spellchecker. Word Pool can also be used to tackle specifi c spelling patterns pupils are really struggling with.

Make the curriculum accessible for allWe are committed to providing software that enables every pupil to access the curriculum and achieve success. Clicker 7 has more accessibility features than ever before, including SuperKeys and eye gaze. Find out more about Clicker 7 accessibility on page 31!

Sentence SetsEach grid in a Sentence Set contains all the words you need to build a sentence. A model sentence can be shown on the grid or in a pop-up to provide the appropriate level of support. You can create a Sentence Set for your pupils by simply typing or pasting your sentences.

Connect SetsConnect Sets take sentence building a step further, by allowing children to choose from clusters of words for each section of the sentence. The new Edit View makes it easy to create Connect Sets to support writing on any topic.

Word BanksWhen children are ready to write using the keyboard, they may still need support with the more difficult words. Build Word Banks to support any curriculum area - just paste relevant text and let Clicker do the rest, automatically removing the high frequency words.

Provide additi onal support with model sentencesIt’s easy to differentiate the support offered in each activity. Teachers can choose to provide the target sentence as a model on the grid, in a pop-up or as an oral prompt – you can even create a Guided Order activity. Clicker French is perfect for a non-specialist like me – I can be confident that my pupils have the tools they need to develop a truly practical understanding and command of basic French.

‘‘ ‘‘

Clicker French and Spanish are extremely eff ective language learning tools for children of all abilities.Pupils are given lots of opportunities to listen to a native French or Spanish speaker, ask and answer questions, and describe people, places, things and actions both orally and in writing.

CD 1 (French or Spanish)CD 1 introduces pupils to everyday vocabulary such as numbers and colours, as well as popular topics such as the family, leisure activities, birthdays and animals. The extensive and varied activities enable pupils of all abilities to discover the enjoyment of learning another language.

CD 2 (French or Spanish)As pupils become more confident, CD 2 offers a further range of activities that build on the content of the first CD. Children progress to further vocabulary and topics, including holidays, sport, clothes, weather, the days of the week and telling the time.

Stories CD (French or Spanish)Here, children extend and develop their language learning in the context of well-known traditional tales. They become language detectives as they decipher the beautifully illustrated on-screen books in their new language. The accompanying activities extend and consolidate the new vocabulary and structures.

Clicker Spanish has helped my pupils to broaden their vocabulary, incorporate accurate grammar and sentence structures into their writing and improve their pronunciation – a really well-rounded language learning resource.

Next Steps to English

Following on from our New to English series, Next Steps to English enables pupils learning English as an additional language to signifi cantly extend their vocabulary and improve their communication skills.

Find Out & Write About enables pupils of all abilities to write research-based reports on an exciting range of high-interest information texts.

Moti vate all learners with diff erenti ated reading materialsThe carefully researched text in each title has been meticulously restructured to present the information at three levels. All levels use clear, recorded speech and the text is highlighted as it is read, to really focus the reader’s attention. Each level also includes a talking glossary.

Sti mulate independent writi ng through scaff olded tasks Every reading page contains a link to a writing activity that provides the appropriate level of support. At level one pupils use Clicker Grids to reconstruct the sentences they read in the information page. At level two pupils construct their own sentences using grids that off er a wider vocabulary choice, and at level three pupils respond to and interpret the information by using sentence starters, word banks and the keyboard to produce an extended piece of writing.

Enhance pupils’ learning outcomesAs they work their way through the information pages and writing tasks, pupils produce a signifi cant piece of writing that demonstrates their understanding of the reading material. This is highly motivating for all learners, particularly struggling readers and writers.

I have been really impressed by the depth and breadth of Clicker Phonics as it takes the children from early sound discrimination all the way through to synthetic phonics.

‘‘

‘‘

Clicker PhonicsFrom early listening to synthetic phonicsClicker Phonics is an engaging phonics programme that provides a firm foundation for reading and writing. The interactive resources are perfect for both your whiteboard and your workstations, and work either on their own or alongside your existing materials.

Develop listening skillsThe two Get Ready CDs develop listening skills through fun activities within familiar environments. Pupils must listen carefully to identify sounds from the garden, the park, the street, the farm and the beach. Numerous engaging activities get children matching pictures to sounds, discriminating between sounds and recording sounds of their own.

Raise phonological awarenessThe Get Set stage consists of two CDs full of activities that get children tuned into the sounds of language by teaching them to focus on patterns in words and to diff erentiate between their sounds. Children develop a strong phonological awareness by working with alliteration and playing with rhyming couplets and rhyming strings.

Give a thorough grounding in syntheti c phonicsThe two Let’s Go CDs follow the current recommendations for the systematic teaching of synthetic phonics. Engaging activities build children’s fl uency in hearing, saying, reading and writing the 42 phonemes. As their skills develop, children are taught how to decode unknown words by working out the phonemes and blending them to read the word.

About symbolsSymbols support reading, writing and communication for children with a variety of learning needs. Each symbol describes a concept and there are symbols for practically all commonly used words.

Providing a symbol with each word in a Clicker Set helps pupils to find the words they want. Having the symbols appear in the text they have completed enables the pupil to read it back. A symbol library is therefore a perfect partner for Clicker to support learners with special literacy or communication needs.
