Transcript of CRESTON MISSIONARY BAPTIST CHURCH The Crestonian SECOND QUARTER-edits_SH.pdfThe Rev. Godwin H....
On February 17, 2014, members of Creston Missionary Baptist Church,
believing we had adhered to the will of God, called the Reverend Godwin H.
Haynes as the third pastor of this great church. For the church, this action
aligns us with God’s word found in Jeremiah 3:15 – And I will give you pas-
tors according to mine heart, which shall feed you with knowledge and un-
derstanding. We know from nearly 52 years of spiritually led leadership
that obedience to God’s will is an expression of our love for Him and faith in
His promises to us.
As a Creston family, we will continue the journey each of us has started at
various times. Collectively and individually, we will continue to pray for
God’s guidance, but our prayers will now include blessings upon the man
God has sent to us as our Shepherd-Leader. We will also continue to pray
for patience and understanding as we experience this new leadership.
Over the last months, we have received God’s word from Rev. Haynes as a
candidate for the pastor. From this point forward, we will receive the word
from him as our pastor. He has already shared with us his desire that
Creston MBC always be a praying church, as the effectual fervent prayers
of the righteous availeth much (James 6:16b). We have witnessed what
prayer can do and as we move forward, our commitment to God must re-
main steady and strong. The power of a praying leader is great because that
power comes from God. Faithfully following a God-led pastor increases our
power as Christians and can only lead us to greater heights and more love
for God and each other.
Now is the time to renew our commitment as church workers as we contin-
ue praying for God’s guidance through the leadership of our pastor and
church leaders. We praise God’s name and lift Him up. We thank Him for
what He has done, what He is doing and what He will do in our lives and
the body of Creston Missionary Baptist Church.

Birthday Wishes! “This is the day that the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.” Psalm 118:24

The Installation Service of Rev. Godwin H. Haynes
The Rev. Godwin H. Haynes was installed as the third pastor of Creston MBC on March 16, 2014. Pas-
tor-elect G.H. Haynes and his wife, Sis. Brenda Haynes were escorted into the church by Dea. and Sis. Virgil Gunner as the celebration of this great occasion began. The Rev. M. A. Paul and the Greater Gali-
lee Missionary Baptist Church family were our special guests. Rev. Paul’s message on Ministry from 2
Kings 2:14-15,19-22, concerning the story of Elisha purifying the water with salt was spiritually sym-
bolic. The power to do this came from the Lord. God will give our Pastor what he needs to lead us.
The Rev. Stanley Hillard, Pastor of St. Luke Missionary Baptist Church, gave the Statement of Purpose, Rev. W. C. Baker, Pastor of Lakeland Baptist Church, gave the charge to the pastor and Rev. Byrd
Lacy, Pastor of Greater Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church, gave the charge to the congregation.
It was a blessed day at Creston and we give thanks to God for His goodness, His mercy and on this
day, for sending us a Shepherd-Leader.

Past Events:
February 15, 2014
Youth & Adult Outing @ Houston Baptist University. We had a great turn out and everyone en-
joyed the game. Special thanks to Deacon Terry Garner for always making this event possible, also
Deacon Virgil Gunner and Deacon Ricky Thomas for your assistance again. The youth had lots of
fun, you could tell that Creston was in the house rooting for HBU, we had our own little special area and of course HBU won! We were spotted on the 10:00 o’clock news when the game was spot-
lighted during the sports segment.
February 23, 2014
Black History month ended with a beautiful play presented by the Youth Department. The name
of the play was “A Voice From The Past For The Future”. All of the participants did a great job, and
the songs that accompanied the play brought back a lot of good memories. The Little ones from
the Children’s Church performed the Rosa Park and Bus Scene. They were fantastic. Rosa Parks’
character was portrayed by Lil Sister Lavar Butler (she was great). She memorized hers lines per-
fectly. The bus driver was portrayed by Lil Brother Marcus Wadely, and the two policemen was Lil Brother Devin Pinkney and Lil Brother Cory Seymore. Creston appears to have their own little
movie stars in the making. Sis. Crystal Pinkney, Sis. Carmen Hightower and Sis. Angela English
did a marvelous job with teaching the little ones at the Children’s Church.

Creston entered the New Year diligently praying for God to bring us a
Pastor. The process has been one of patience, cooperation and much
prayer. Elections and installations of auxiliary officers have been ful-filled as well. Now, we should as always, be about doing God’s work.
Our youth activities have been put in the forefront with our little ones
inspiring us all with their increase in numbers with praise dancers
headed by Ms. LaTrevia Thomas. Sis. Joyce Hebert, our Youth guru,
along with the other matrons, they put together an outstanding Black History Program on 4th Sunday that included participants young and
old. February was full of activities. This included the election of our
new pastor, Rev. Godwin H. Haynes, congratulations Pastor!
We even found time to take a large group of the congregation to a basketball game at Houston Baptist University, HBU vs Central Ar-
kansas. The youth got a chance to pet the mascot, the husky dog and
HBU won the game as well. Let us continue to be prayerful as we
proceed in the New Year and mindful of our sick and shut-in. We
must continue to encourage one another as we journey down the
road in our everyday lives.
Take care and God bless.
From the Editor’s Quill God has once again blessed Creston with a Shepherd after his own
heart. We must continue to be diligent and obedient in doing God’s
will. According to (Psalm 125:1) they that trust in the Lord shall be
as mount Zion, which cannot be removed, but abideth for ever. Con-
gratulations Rev. Haynes, may God continue to bless you, as well as, Creston.
And I will give you pastors according to mine heart, which shall feed you with knowledge and understanding. Jeremiah 3:15
