Great work Stage 2!

NATIONAL RECONCILIATION WEEK

National Reconciliation Week is held from 27th May - 3rd June each year. At its heart, reconciliation is about strengthening relationships between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and non-Indigenous peoples, for the benefit of all. The concept of reconciliation and this year’s theme of “In This Together” was explored by Kindergarten through a range of stories, games, songs, paintings and drawings. We enjoyed learning about our local Dunghutti country and shared knowledge of language and traditional way of life.

OUR BOUNTIFUL HARVEST

Mrs Rixon and our gardening group enjoyed munching and crunching on their harvest from the CHPS garden last week. Congratulations to all the gardeners. It looks delicious.

WELCOME STEVE AND ALANA

Over the past few weeks we have welcomed two new members to our team. Alana Wood comes to us each Thursday as part of the casual employment program. Ms Wood normally works at Aldavilla Public School and is working with the Years 1 and 2 classes each week. Mr Steven Rowe is filling in for Mr Rogers while he is on leave. Mr Rowe is a local farmer from the Belmore River area and brings with him a wealth of knowledge that is already being put to good use in and around our grounds. We would like to welcome these new members to our staff and community even if only temporarily.

QUEST LEADER REFRESHER

On Friday our Year 6 students completed the final parts of their Quest Training. They undertook the normal training day back in the beginning of April. Normally this would have seen them begin in this role the following Monday. For this reason Mr Lobb, Mrs Munday and Mr Upcroft spent Friday afternoon working to ensure that they were equipped with the necessary knowledge, skills and confidence to begin organising and leading other students through activities each day. They practised their "You" messages in preparation for opening the Help Desk each day and finished the day by setting a goal and figuratively breaking through it by breaking a board with their fists. This group of school leaders showed great maturity and patience throughout this drawn out process and will make fine Quest Leaders. Well done Year 6.

LIBRARY BORROWING HAS RETURNED

Mrs V will not be taking library lessons this term. The task of assisting the children with borrowing books will be undertaken by Mr Edwards and Mr Morssi. Each class has been allocated a day to borrow and return books to the library this term as follows:

• 3/4D - Monday • 1/2F, 1/2R & 5/6L - Tuesday • 5/6M - Wednesday • KL& 3/4W - Thursday

LAST WEEK’S AWARDS WINNERS

Not having an assembly each Friday is not going to stop us from recognising the hard work done by our students each week. Last Friday awards were handed out in classes and in front of their peers. Congratulations to all our hard working award winners.

SIMULTANEOUS READ IN

Last Wednesday CHPS students participated in the Simultaneous Read In with over a million students across Australia. The book for 2020 was ‘Whitney and Britney – Chicken Divas’ written by Australian author Lucinda Gifford.

HELP US TO REMAIN SAFE

In order to maintain social distancing, parents and adults should not enter the school. Students will drop their bags at their classroom and then move to the playground. When the music plays in the morning students will move directly to their classroom and have their roll marked in class. At the end of the school day we are asking that parents continue to practice social distancing from each other and staff. Students will be led into the path behind the school in the normal 3 groups: bus, back walkers and kiss and drop. Start and finishing times will be as normal – 8.55am–2.55pm. Children will eat lunch and recess in class groups in the cola area. Assemblies will not be held. Achievement awards will be handed out in class. Volunteer programs such as reading groups, scripture and ethics and Multi-Lit/Mini-Lit will not commence at present. Excursions will not be held nor will inter-school activities such as sports and debating. The canteen will remain closed at present and will be reassessed in line with health advice within the coming weeks.

PLEASE LABEL JACKETS

As the cooler weather is now here and students are wearing their CHPS jackets to school, we ask that parents and carers check that jackets are clearly labelled with student’s name and that the jacket they have doesn’t belong to another student.

SCHOOL CONTRIBUTION FEE

• All families are asked to contribute to the cost of supplying students with all the learning materials provided by the school. The cost of resources used every day in the classrooms, including books, pencils, pens, paper, art supplies, craft supplies, printer ink, readers etc…. is ever increasing.

• The P&C has endorsed contribution amount at:

• $49 per student • $120 for 3 students or more • This school contribution can be made at

the school office at any time and will greatly assist the school in off-setting the cost of providing equitable new and quality resources and materials for all students in our school.

SCHOOLSTREAM REMINDER

We wish to remind parents and carers of the importance of staying informed by adding the Schoolstream app to your device. All updates and important information regarding CHPS activities and alerts will be sent via this app. Be sure not to miss out!! You can find Schoolstream via the App Store or Google Play by searching for Schoolstream and typing in Crescent Head Public School when prompted.

This is an essential communication tool with our parent body and we hope many families are proactive with this reminder.
