After the statement made by the Community Hall in the JULY EDITION of the CCN. The Parish Council feel that the readers should be made aware that these comments are incorrect.!!Over the years the Parish Council have supported the hall committee on numerous occasions e.g. paid for a new roof, new boiler etc, and to say that it has never been maintained, which is the respon-sibility of the hall committee, is not completely correct. !!The statement that the hall has never been the subject of any grants is, again, a hall committee fault. Members of the Parish Council spent many hours of their time working on getting a new lease, which was signed by both parties two years ago. This was done specifically to allow the hall committee to apply for grants or loans. !!Finally, no request has been made to the Parish Council, the Owners of the building, for any monetary aid.!!Credenhill Parish Council

Magna and Young Magna !OCTOBER PRODUCTION !Our October production is another original play entitled 'Rowanbury' It is an historical drama with an air of mystery. A group of women have taken refuge in a shelter near the village of Rowanbury, they are discovered by three men from the village, who are trying to save the life of a young man accused of theft. The women do not want them there and so devise a dark plan to be rid of them all. It is an atmospheric play which delves into the superstitions and pagan beliefs of the time and develops the idea behind the Arthurian legends. It also reflects on current issues which we hear of in daily news reports !MAGNA, We are delighted to let our audiences know that 'Sandiscenes' has won the Plate for the Best Drama in the West Midlands in 2013 .A great achievement for the cast of Magna who work so hard all year . !

Feral Cat !The ginger male feral cat which has been living in the Mill Lane area, for the last few years, was noticed by several residents, to be in poor health recently & so was taken by staff from the local branch of The Cat Protection League to a local Veterinary Cen-tre for treatment. Unfortunately the Vet who examined it found the cat to have sever-al health problems, including the very serious & highly contagious (to other cats) FIV positive condition. The CPL paid for the cat to be treated for several of it’s more minor health problems, & both fed & cared for it at the centre for a week, to allow an owner to come forward or for an offer of a new home. At the end of the week, as the CPL had received no such offer, sadly the cat was put to sleep by the Vet, with their full agreement & in line with their policy. It was not possible for the cat to be returned to the wild due to the highly contagious nature of the FIV positive condition & the like-lihood of it being passed to other cats. !

Mill Lane News!

Flooding

As a Mill Lane resident, I have been lobbying Herefordshire Council since August 2013 with regards to having some drainage gulleys installed at the bottom of the road, to alleviate the flooding which occurs there after heavy rainfall. I was hoping to be able to inform the other residents & road users of the proposed date for the works to be carried out in this issue, but unfortunately just as the works had been assigned to Balfour Beattie’s (the council’s contrac-tors) land drainage team for ordering & scheduling, Balfour Beattie decided to undertake a restructure!

Following this their new Asset Team Leader, who has taken over the role of managing land drainage issues, is currently undertaking a review of all outstanding drainage works so that these can be prioritised and ranked in line with the available budget. They anticipate that the review will take approximately 2/3 months for completion and therefore they will be unable to provide a more definitive timescale for the works until this has been completed. After this time they aim to be able to provide specific dates for works to be completed, however, it is worth noting that low priority works may not be included in the works schedule and this will be de-pendent on available budget. I have asked the ward member for Credenhill, Councillor Bob Matthews, to assist me in continuing to press for these works to be carried out & I would like to thank him for his help to date.

Traffic Calming

Many of the residents, including myself & my husband Adrian, are concerned about the speed of some of the road users of Mill Lane. There have been a number of occasions over the last few months when both private cars & agricultural vehicles have been driven at excessive speed & without due care & attention. There was a recent incident one evening, when a trac-tor & trailer were driven dangerously fast whilst servicing Millside Stables. I spoke to the own-er of Millside Stables to express my concerns & ascertained the name of the contractor, who turned out to be Mr & Mrs Gilbert of Court Farm, Tillington. I have since spoken with Mr Gilbert of Court Farm & received a verbal & also a written apology together with an assurance that his drivers will drive in an acceptable manner in the future & at an appropriate speed for the area. I have also spoken with the local police, Credenhill Parish Council & also Hereford-shire Council about this issue & also requested that ‘calming humps’ sometimes known as ‘sleeping policemen’ be installed, but I am informed by Clr Matthews that Balfour Beattie have stipulated recently that it was “no longer policy to construct ‘calming humps’ in public high-ways, because of complaints from the ambulance and other emergency services.”  However Paul Burridge of Mill Farm, is currently looking into installing a similar type of traffic calming on the bottom end of the lane which runs through his property as this is understood to be not under Highways Control. This would certainly slow traffic down which was being driven to & from both Mill Farm & Millside Stables, which would be of great benefit to all Mill Lane resi-dents & users. We are grateful to Paul for this suggestion. !New Bin! !Residents & other regular users of Mill Lane may have noticed that we have a new bin! My husband, Adrian, in conjunction with Paul Burridge of Mill Farm, arranged for this to be de-livered recently & we have just installed it at the junction of Mill Mead Lodge & the entrance to Mill Farm. The primary function of this bin is for dog owners who have ‘scooped the poop’ into bags specified for this purpose, (although it can also be used for ordinary litter, such as drink cans, sweet wrappers, etc). I appreciate that the bin is not the normal red one recog-nised by dog owners/walkers for this purpose, but ‘beggars can not be choosers’ & this was the only bin that the council had at their disposal! !Paula Eastick
