We have been very impressed by their continual professionalism and dedication to the project. They have been supportive to us, as clients, throughout the project and have always been responsive to what was needed at the different stages. The level of service received has been very personal and we have felt that we were a priority throughout. We would thoroughly recommend Shape Architecture to others.”

Shape Architecture has obtained plan-ning permission for a new double basement in Douro Place. This was particularly complex given that it is in a Conservation Area and is a Cul-de-sac. The project also involves numer-ous extensions and a complete internal refurbishment. It is about to go out to tender.

Shape Architecture have recently finished on site with this complete refurbishment of a large apartment in Grosvenor Square. Walls were demolished to open up the interior and bring more light into each room. We were successful in three separate planning applications to upgrade both front and rear windows to double glazing and to add an AC system to the flat with external plant.

Shape Architecture are currently pre-paring the tender list for this large-scale apartment. Giving onto Green Park it enjoys a beautiful setting. The scale and type of refurbishment re-flects our work in Grosvenor Square.

Shape Architecture has gained plan-ning permission for this scheme of 9 flats on the site of a former pub in Herne Hill.

The building is located on a prominent corner site in a Conservation. The site is complicated in that it sits between fine nineteenth century terraced hous-ing and larger scale twentieth century social housing. It is in dealing success-fully with these vastly different archi-tectures that Shape Architecture was able to gain planning permission.

“As a small property development con-cern we have experience in dealings with architectural practices, but when seeking a project in a geographical area not known to us we were intro-duced to Shape Architecture and its di-rector Jason Wren by a mutually very satisfied client. The reasons for this be-came immediately apparent.

Shape Architecture has shown itself to be a thoroughly professional and friendly practice that is well struc-tured, and has become an invaluable business partner of ours with multi disciplined services at clearly laid out and competitive prices.

We have successfully completed and sold our first project with them, with many more to come!”

Shape Architecture brings a considerable expertise in the design of school buildings, developed over the last fifteen years through a number of significant school projects. Each design responds to the site and the particular requirements of the client body. Common to all is the use of daylight and a connection between the inside and outside. A simple palette of materials is deployed. Interiors are bright and light and form an excellent backdrop for students’ work. Various projects have employed sustainable design measures and strong visual images and this has always proved an interesting subject to develop with the pupils and staff alike.

“I decided to use Shape Architecture after we were awarded a grant from Sure Start funding from Kent County Council to build a new Pre-School and Kindergarten. A building which had to meet the Early Years Foundation stage specifications and be environmentally sound. Shape Architecture’s professional attitude was impressive immediately. The design is above all expectations. They have been reliable and supportive throughout the project and I would wholly recommend them to design and create an amazing structure for what ever purpose you have in mind.”

From the inception of Shape Architecture the practice has always worked with Community Organisations to design and build a number of community projects. We pride ourselves on communicating clearly and supporting the client body. Our projects vary in size and type from the recycled Eco Sheds to the 2 storey community centre near Brighton. Each uses a limited palette of materials and seeks to identify a key design element of the building that provides a feature from the rubble roof at Eco Shed 2 to the Sculptural stair at Peacehaven Community Centre.

“We first became interested in an EcoShed as it ties in with the environ-mental aims of our charity. Given the success of the previous shed, we were encouraged to go ahead with this one. This new EcoShed will have a toilet, kitchen, and a tool shed. It’s partly function and partly educational. We’ll be doing work with four local school, bringing the children here to learn about the EcoShed. This shed is more prominent than the one in Loris Gar-den so we hope it will attract interest from local people and passers-by.”

Shape Architecture brings to its work over fifteen years of designing and building sustainable buildings. We fully understand that the simple deci-sions relating to site orientation and the use of natural light provide the foundation for a sustainable building and an architecture of quality and joy.

Our technical knowledge of sustaina-ble design is both vast and practical, being improved in project after pro-ject. It is appropriate to each design and every budget.
