Right-brain, left-brain development depends on practicing
shapes. Programming shapes into memory is facilitated by
tracing and drawing with both hands. Encouragement by
adults who also trace and draw will make the experience
happier.

A baby practices movements over and over until it can perform them
smoothly. Nature nurtures the baby's development, nudging it step by step until
it unfolds into a mature, functioning human being.
Babies grow so quickly and develop in their own preordained form. We
have no control over their natural development. Sometimes, this inherent,
natural patterning is interrupted. The baby is unable to complete the patterning
Nature intended. Mainly, this happens when the baby is actively getting into
everything, pushing and pulling, scribbling on walls, furniture and everything,
creating havoc. Then, adults take away the pens, pencils and crayons and objects
baby is handling and chewing and their development is interrupted.
Experience with shapes is an essential for Right brain, Left brain
development. Tracing, imprinting and drawing are superior tools for remedialbrain programming. Adults can play an essential role if they do the tracing and
drawing too, encouraging the children by example. Especially, the mothers, ofthe
children. It is nice to bask in reflected glory when our children do something that
brings public praiseI remember my father's proud smile as he watched me
dance. And my mother's proud, pleased expression as I tinkered at her piano,
picking out pleasing sounds at age 3. But, the best, most lasting good
impressions for me are those of working and creating good memories together
as a family.Help your baby by smiling at all progress hemakes.
Help your baby achieve with whatever effort it
takes.
Your approval of each little success is needed
and fine
But most important of all, is your love divine!

Knowing simple shapes will help you
draw. They will help you program your
brain. When you master simpleshapes, you can draw anything if you
persist in practicing. God will bless
your sincere efforts!

To stave off Alzheimer's and other memory losses, see the PBS special by Rudolph
Tanzer, a Harvard researcher titled, "SuperBrain. He found new brain cells and synapse
connections are made at any age by keeping activephysically, socially and mentally!

The method used in these books is to TRACE OUTLINES, IMPRINT the
shape pattern by retracingalways concentrating on continually improving
the shape as you do so, more closely to the perfect shape you picture in your
mind. Line drawing is the first step.
RIGHT-BRAIN, LEFT-BRAIN learning depends on the
available shapes in your memory. Programming shapes
into your memory is facilitated by learning to trace and
draw with both hands. Also, by physically handling shapes
and using your eyes or finger in the air to .trace. around
distant objects such as mountains.
Doing it as a family brings great joy and happiness as
each one's work and progress is encouraged and admired.

It never fails to capture a small child's attention when they look at a
smiling face on a sun or moon, when you want them to practice drawing
circles.
Smiling faces on smiling suns is a sign that a child is happy in whatever
activity they are engaging in at the moment, an eminent psychologist
concluded years ago.
Many smiling suns appeared on old school papers I saved when my
children were young. They had some good teachers who understood that
children need joy to succeed at learning.

Two more circle shapes to choose from. Point out the
triangles representing the sun's rays on the sun. Show the
children other ways to represent the sun's rays. Usually they
pick the straight lines, but squiggles are a good variation.
Point out the U-shape of the flower petals.

Slight changes in the circle shape makes ovals. I think they are easier to draw,
especially since more of the fruits and vegetables we handle and draw are altered
ovals. We have more shape experiences with them.
We learned all about Humpty Dumpty's sad accident from the nursery rhymewhen we were very young. It is fun to draw Humpty, before and after his great fall.
Especially if he's dressed on the wall. We saw him in old-fashioned clothes, but I'm
sure the children will update his look!
And tomatoes are just squashed ovals. We handle and eat them almost every
day. I like to draw tomatoes. I think that they are the most familiar, easiest shape to
draw of all.

Here's a fish with a modified oval for a body and u-shaped
scales. The curves of the fish make an egg-shaped body.

a
Many children have a pet gold
fish.
Many children get to go fishing
with Dad and Grandpa.
Fishing usually brings back happy
memories of family outings and playing
in the water.

Hearts are wonderful shapes to draw,
and the most familiar because of all the
hearts we've drawn and cut out for
Valentine' Day.
Try this exercise. Draw a heart half in
the air with your right hand. Next, draw a
heart half with your left hand. Then put your
pointer fingers together and draw the heart
with both hands. Do it again and notice it
makes your brain happy, because both
hands are engaged. I tell people doing so
that it makes their brain '"smile"!

You can think in terms of real dogs. Just take the next step
and round out the boxes. Draw a more life-like dog.
