CREATING PATHWAYS TO SUCCESS
Ontario’s education and career/life planning program has been designed to ensure that all students develop the capacity to:
• achieve their personal goals for work and life
• make successful transitions throughout life
• make positive contributions to their communities

CREATING PATHWAYS TO SUCCESS
“The reality is that the challenges and opportunities faced by students in this century are unlike those of any previous generation, and that all students today require specific knowledge and skills in education and career/life planning to support them in making sound choices throughout their lives” (p. 6).

BELIEFS ABOUT STUDENT SUCCESS
“What students believe about themselves and their opportunities, and what their
peers and the adults in their lives believe about them, significantly influence the
choices students make and the degree to which they achieve their goals” (Creating
Pathways to Success, p. 9).

BELIEFS ABOUT STUDENT SUCCESS
The education and career/life planning policy for Ontario schools is based on three core beliefs:
• All students can be successful
• Success comes in many forms
• There are many pathways to success
(Creating Pathways to Success, p. 9)

AS PART OF CREATING POSITIVE INCLUSIVE LEARNING ENVIRONMENTS:
The completion of the Individual Pathways Plan (IPP) helps students to create who they wish to become through reflection and exploration of their interests and strengths.
The process gives students the opportunity to establish and monitor their progress towards academic and other personal goals in collaboration with school staff and parents.

FOUR STEP INQUIRY PROCESS
Four key questions for education and career/life planning are:
• Who am I?
• What are my opportunities?
• Who do I want to become?
• What is my plan for achieving my goals?
![Page 8: Creating Pathways 2013](https://reader034.fdocuments.net/reader034/viewer/2022051818/549feda8ac79592e768b4b88/html5/thumbnails/8.jpg)
THE LEARNING FRAMEWORK
These four questions correspond to:
• Knowing yourself
• Exploring opportunities
• Making decisions and setting goals
• Achieving goals and making transitions
