Figuring out where and when each child is working throughout the day can be tricky.
Schedules are constantly changing.
Essential components to making schedules work
Step 1: Creating a template
Grade template
How are you setting up your schedules?
Grade Student
Fill in 15 min or 30 min time frames for the entire day.
Step 2: Specials
Read through IEPs!!! Specials Schedule
Get a master schedule for every grades specials list.
Have a copy of each student’s IEP and read through it.
Step 3: Lunch Times
Color Code lunch times- Yellow
Get the master lunch schedule for students.
Fill in each grade lunch.
Fill in breakfast
Step 4: Fill in Specials
Color Code Specials -Blue
What is appropriate for each student? Determine how long they will participate in specials daily.
Add in Specials
Step 5: Fill in Recess
Color code Recess - yellow
Get Master schedule for each grade recess time.
Fill in all recess blocks.
Step 6: Inclusion Times
Inclusion times – GreenGet a copy of each student’s gen. ed class schedule.
Determine from the iep how much time each child will spend in the gen. ed classroom.
Meet with each child’s gen. ed teacher. Together find times that are appropriate for student inclusion.
Some ideas are:◦ Making Meaning◦ Whole group
activities◦ Centers◦ Intervention times
Step 7: Staff Lunch
Add your lunch - yellow
Look at the schedule and determine the best time for you to take your lunch time.
Step 8: AM Teacher Times
Add teaching times
Determine whole group instruction times. ◦ Tip: look at when
most students are present.
Recommendation is partnering students with similar goals/objectives for small group direct instruction.
If possible keep students on similar schedules.
Step 9: PM Teacher Times
Tip: Set a time to bathroom students. PM Teaching Times
Fill in curriculum time, math, reading, sensory breaks and bathroom breaks.

Non color coded copy
Print off MANY non-color copies of student schedules. Use pencil to add in changes.
Determine their lunch and break times.
Talk with paras about preferences or students they work well with.
Ask if they want to be with one student all day or want to rotate with many students.
Tip: These change daily! It can take a couple weeks for everything to start running smoothly.
Trial Para Schedules
Color code each para
Each para receives a copy of their schedule highlighted.
Determine what is working and what changes need to be made.
Meet at the end of the week to update schedules.
