Introducing the MWC2018 Event Themes

We have developed seven event themes to help guide you in finding the content that ismost relevant to your industries, your interests, and your future visions. Use thesethemes to sort through the agenda and build your MWC journey around targeted content.

Future Service ProviderOperators will need to address the question of where andhow to compete in future. What will that look like, whatare the strategic options, how will they make money andhow do MNOs transform themselves? What will the impactof 5G, analytics, machine learning and digitisation be ontheir cost structures, customer engagement and strategicoptions?

NetworksWe are seeing rapid developments in network technology, offering immense opportunities for lower opex and newbusiness creation, but the potential capex and growth incomplexity is daunting. This theme examines theopportunities and technical challenges beyond the hype of5G, NFV, SDN and more.

The 4th IndustrialRevolutionThe growth in IoT has meant every type of industry islooking at connected technologies to ensure it is ready forthe move towards an automated society. This themeunravels the complex web of technology trends, partnerships, business concerns and opportunities neededto survive and thrive in a digital automated world, and thedemands placed on city and national governments.

InnovationThe term "innovation" can be defined as somethingoriginal and more effective that "breaks into" the marketor society. The innovation theme will feature anything thatfalls outside of the themes above. The most innovativesolutions are, after all, often the most unexpected andtherefore hard to classify.

Immersive Content& MediaAs online services become the primary means of mediaconsumption, the relationships between content creators, distributors and consumers continue to evolve tosomething richer, more direct, immersive and personal, more complex and tougher to manage. We dive into theworld of VR, content rights, production, acquisitions, partnerships, business models, delivery networks andmore.

Tech In SocietyConnected technologies are tools that could offer hugebenefits for society; better government, security, transport, health, education, arts, emergency response and theenvironment. But a tool without guidance, ethics and craftis useless or even dangerous. What will it take to make abetter future and how can we avoid taking wrong turns onthe way?

The Digital ConsumerThe growth in IoT has meant every type of industry islooking at connected technologies to ensure it is ready forthe move towards an automated society. This themeunravels the complex web of technology trends, partnerships, business concerns and opportunities neededto survive and thrive in a digital automated world, and thedemands placed on city and national governments.

Applied AIMachine learning, cognitive computing and AI are beinghyped, with good reason; the potential seems almostboundless. As young technologies still, they sit in acomplex web of issues. This theme aims to cut throughthat complexity.
