Pastor Pauley — Christian Mentoring & Discipleship — CRANBERRY BAPTIST CHURCH QUARTERLY NEWSLETTER FALL 2008 FALL REVIVAL The Lord has blessed us with a great summer and we “praise the Lord for his goodness and for his wonderful works.” (Psalm 107:8) In my eighteen years as Pastor of this church, I do not remember a better summer, as far as spiritual blessing and the growth of our church family. I see the moving of God’s hand in so many lives. I am very much aware of many families within our church who are going through difficult times. However, in all of this, I believe that God is preparing us for even “greater things.” As we move into the fall of the year, I am looking forward to seeing what God has in store for our church. Let me ask each of you to pray that God will give me wisdom and strength as I lead our church. We have many new projects before us, decisions to make, and tremendous opportunities to serve the Lord, here in our Jerusalem. Our Fall Revival is scheduled for October 26-29. Our speakers for this meeting will be Dr. Charles Keen of Powell, TN and Dr. Sam Davison of Oklahoma City, OK. Dr Keen, who is the director and founder of First Bible International, will preach for us during the Sunday morning and evening services on October 26. Dr. Sam Davison is the Pastor of the Southwest Baptist Church and President of Heartland Bible College in Oklahoma City, OK. Brother Davison has not been in our church, but I promise you will be touched by his preaching. Brother Davison has agreed to be with us Monday through Wednesday, October 27-29. I want to encourage all of our people to put forth an extra effort to be with us every night of this meeting. Be sure to invite others to attend the meeting with you! But most of all begin praying for the services now! TIMOTHY TRAINING Classes Begin Monday, September 15 at 6:30pm New converts and new members are encouraged to be a part of this class. There are many challenges in raising Godly children in an anti-God society. As Christian parents, we must fortify our home and our children. School lesson or Missionary story, memorizing the New Testament books and themes, memorizing Scripture, and numerous other activities are all part of the weekly schedule for our children! Be here each Wednesday night at 7:00 sharp. TY THOMAS

75TH ANNIVERSARY CHURCH DIRECTORY With so many new people in our church family, our 75th Anniversary Edition Church Directory will prove to be a very helpful tool in getting to know others! The directory also provides a great opportunity for our church family to be an encouragement one to another. The directory will be available after the first of the new year. Church members will also have access to the directory from our church website. For more information on Cranberry’s 75th Anniversary Edition Church Directory, please call the church office at (304) 252-9631.

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT!

After much prayer and consideration, the Sunday evening service time at Cranberry will change from 7:00pm to 6:00pm effective Sunday, September 7,

2008. This time change will not only benefit our Senior Citizens during the fall and winter months, but will also benefit families with young children. Also, as a reminder, Sunday, November 2, is the end of Daylight Savings time.

“And of some have compassion, making a difference.” Jude 22

God has blessed us with great success in our summer door-to-door campaign! With the help of over 50 people from the Cranberry family, we have completed Mt. Hope and the east end of Oak Hill. Over 1,500 doors were knocked during this 10 week campaign. We praise the Lord for the people who made a profession of faith in Jesus Christ as Savior! Numerous families expressed interest in the ministry of Cranberry Baptist. The seed of the Gospel has been given to literally hundreds of people! Now we pray that God will give the increase. We are reminded in Romans 1:16, that there is life-changing, dynamite power in the Gospel! Join us in praying that God will deal with the hearts of those to whom we spoke. Thank you to those who were able to help make a difference in the lives of so many!

OPERATION COMPASSION DAY PLEASE JOIN US FOR CHURCH-WIDE OPERATION COMPASSION DAY ON

Get Your Head

“If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right

hand of God. Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.”

Colossians 3:1-2

Teenagers live much of their time in what is called “LA-LA LAND.” The heaviest travel season to “LA-LA LAND” is Monday through Friday, from approximately 7:30AM until 3:00PM (during school hours, in case you were wondering!) There have been many teachers who have made the futile attempt to get you awake by saying something like, “Get your head out of the clouds!” In other words, WAKE UP! I want to challenge you, however, to get your head IN the clouds. God says, according to Colossians 3:1-2, that, if you have accepted God’s gift of salvation and have been risen with Christ, then you should “seek those things which are above” and “set your affection on things above.” We live in a money-hungry world that is always telling you that what you have right now is not enough. The world preaches to us that lots of money equals happiness. Recent reports tell us that there are about 313 billionaires, just in the United States. The combined net worth is $1 trillion. 313 happy people, right? WRONG! Though the United States may be the richest country in the world, our country is full of broken-hearted people. Our country leads the world in divorces, drugs, alcohol consumption, immorality, suicide, and the list goes on. How can the wealthiest country in the world be so empty and alone? Young person, any time you try to find your happiness in anything other than a relationship with Jesus Christ, it will leave you broken-hearted. If you have accepted Christ as your Savior, get your head IN the clouds. Make God and God’s Word the love of your life. Make God the goal of your life.

STRENGTHENING LADIES...STRENGTHENING THE CHURCH The Lord has used the Phebe Fellowship to help the ladies of our church. After having the summer off, the Phebe meetings will resume on Thursday, September 4. Phebe fellowship meets quarterly. All ladies are invited to attend. During each meeting, the ladies enjoy an encouraging Bible study, sweet Christian fellowship, and refreshments. The meetings also provide an organizational time in scheduling meals for shut-ins, those recovering from surgery, and funerals. Ladies, join us for the Phebe Fellowship and help us strengthen our church. Discover the truths that New Testament women held in their hearts.

Beginning this fall, the members of Cranberry will be able to stay connected with the needs of our church family simply by

dialing (304) 929-PRAY (7299). Prayer requests, surgeries, and other important information will be updated daily. Prayer

requests will also be listed on our website at cranberrybaptistchurch.com!

“Bear ye one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.”—Galatians 6:2

“The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.”—James 5:16

— Please Pray for the Students in our Area Schools —

We are grateful to God for the opportunity to reach into area high schools and middle schools. Currently, we meet weekly at the Woodrow Wilson High School and Independence Middle School. The Lord has blessed this ministry as we present the

Gospel and as we attempt to be an encouragement to these student bodies. Other doors of opportunity are open! We are praying that we can add two more schools this fall. Please join us in praying that we can continue to be an influence

for Jesus Christ in one of the greatest mission fields in the world—the public school.

THE WORLD AT OUR DOORSTEP The third Saturday of October brings over 200,000 to our area for “Bridge Day.” People from all over the world convene to the New River Bridge for a host of events. This year, Bridge Day will provide us with an outreach opportunity. With the help of Stephen Troell from Crown Christian Publications, we have designed a gospel tract just for this time of year. The cover of the tract is a beautiful picture of the bridge. The tract will also include some historical facts about the bridge. Most importantly, the plan of salvation will be included. Please pray with us that God will meet the need and that He will deal with hearts. For more information on how you can be involved in this Bridge Day Outreach, please call the church office. The New River Gorge Bridge, with a length of 3,030 feet, was, for many years, the longest in the world of that type. Its arch extends 1,700 feet, at a height of 876 feet, making it the

highest vehicular bridge in the Americas and the second-highest in the world.

DAVIS UPDATE from Bro. Shane Davis The work in Hinton, Alberta is moving forward. The LORD is blessing, and His hand of guidance and provision are evident. Things have been very busy through the summer months, and fall is just around the corner. One of the highlights of the summer was a 3-day Vacation Bible School and an old-fashioned tent meeting. Brother Jason Little and a group from Beacon Baptist Church in Raleigh, NC did a great job

helping with the VBS. Bro. Dave Webster, an evangelist from Saskatchewan, brought a big tent, and evangelistic meetings were held each evening. I cannot say thank you enough to all those that helped in that week of meetings. Each of you, through financial support and prayers, made it possible for my family and I to be a part of the Lord’s work here. Thank you! Hinton Baptist Church is now holding Sunday services in town. The crowning event of the VBS/Tent meeting was the first Sunday service on July 20. God has blessed the church with four faithful families. We are praying in the next weeks and months that He will add to His church, and that Hinton

Baptist will grow, not only numerically but spiritually as well. We are anxiously awaiting the “Grand Opening” meetings for the new church. The meetings are scheduled for September 7-10. Pastor Harness and the families from Victory Baptist in Sherwood Park, and several other churches across the province, are coming to help in the meetings. Dr. Earl Jessup of Baptist Church Planting Ministry, will be the speaker. We are trusting that God will bless, and that Hinton Baptist Church will be “a pillar and ground of the truth” to a lost and dying world. Please pray for these upcoming meetings, our housing need in Hinton, and God’s continued blessing on the new church.

Kristy and I would like to, once again, take time to thank each of our supporting churches, friends, family members, Pastor Pauley and Cranberry Baptist Church, and the many others that have made it possible for us to serve here. Thank you for helping us in the Lord’s work.

A GROWING MISSIONS FAMILY We are thrilled that our missionary family is growing! Duey and

Melissa Whitfield have been called of God to reach Spanish speaking people through the local church ministry. The

Whitfield's vision is to assist established Independent Baptist Churches in

beginning Spanish Ministries of their own. The Whitfield family is being sent out of the Tabernacle Baptist Church in Hickory, NC where Scott Hooks is now the pastor. Bro. Whitfield serves with Baptist Missions to Forgotten People, based out of Jacksonville, FL. Please pray for the Whitfield family as they

continue on deputation.

The Hinton Center is the meeting place for Sunday services

First Sunday service under the big tent!

CHURCH PLANT UPDATE Cranberry began supporting Steve and Rachel Stewart as they partnered with Franklin Road Baptist Church in Murfreesboro, TN to plant the Amazing Grace Baptist Church in Antioch, TN. Last summer, some of our people had the opportunity to assist the Stewarts renovate their new church building. God has blessed this new work in a wonderful way, and on April 6, 2008, Amazing Grace Baptist Church voted unanimously to unite with Calvary Baptist Church in Smyrna, TN. The two churches came together to form the Cornerstone Baptist Church. With Calvary’s facilities, Cornerstone Baptist Church is ready to move ahead. In these few short months, the church has already experienced God’s blessings! Please continue to pray for the Stewarts and Cornerstone Baptist Church.

BARNABUS MINISTRY IN ACTION! On Wednesday, July 23, Hurricane Dolly made landfall in Texas. This category 2 hurricane caused much disaster and devastation. One of our men, John Marano, was asked to assist in rebuilding the Iglesia Bautista Fundamental. Brother John and other men from B.A.T.A. Ministries traveled over 1,600 miles one way to be a help to Pastor Victor Alvarez. These men installed a new rain/storm water drainage project that diverts storm water away from church buildings and new water heater, and rebuilt all church bathroom plumbing.

While there, Brother Marano had the privilege, on Sunday morning, to drive one of their eight church buses. Numerous tracts and John/Romans were given out and gratefully received. Three people received Christ as their personal Savior, including a police officer in Bay St. Louis, Mississippi. These men also had the opportunity to assist in rebuilding the roof of the Epaphroditus Ministries warehouse. This ministry supplies Bibles, tracts, literature, and other needful supplies to over 80 missionaries and to national pastors in Mexico.

The Barnabus ministry is in memory of one of Cranberry’s faithful men, Willard Lafferty. Brother Lafferty was, indeed, a Barnabus, for he was such an encouragement to so many people. The Barnabus fund is now under Regions Beyond Missions and was established for the Cranberry Baptist Church to be a help and encouragement to our missionaries who are planting churches around the world. Brother John Marano, who is serving as a Barnabus intern, has a desire to assist these missionaries in building or remodeling churches. John and his wife, Karen, are living on the church property and serve as caretakers of the church. Eventually, the John and Karen hope to gain enough support to be available for disaster relief full time.

KRUCHKOW UPDATE from Bro. Jeff Kruchkow The last two months were very busy for the Kruchkow family. We had the privilege of seeing our second oldest daughter married, traveled over 8,000 miles, and had the opportunity to present our ministry in 15 different churches. God is good all the time! Please pray that these churches will see the need of spreading God’s Word to those who have never seen one word of God’s Holy Bible!

“So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.” Romans 10:17. The cleanup has begun on the Sophia Print Shop. During the week of July 14th, we had a youth group from Buchanan, Michigan come to Beckley and help us get the print shop project under way. What a tremendous blessing they were! We had to completely remove the old ceiling and these teens jumped right in and attacked the project! They also did a fabulous job cleaning up the outside. We had grass (waist high) to mow, weeds to cut, trees to cut down, and much trash to remove. The end result is a great looking building! Pray now that we can secure this building with steel doors and glass block windows. Our most urgent need is for God’s faithful servants to make the Kruchkow family a part of their daily prayer. Printing Till Jesus Comes, Jeff Kruchkow
