THE COMMUNICATIONS REGULATORY AUTHORITY OF NAMIBIA AWARDS
ORANJEMUND COMMUNITY RADIO STATION WITH A LICENCE.
The Communications Regulatory Authority of Namibia (CRAN) officially handed over the
operating licence to Oranjemund Community Radio (OFM) on the 8th of February 2013. The
prestigious event took place at the Recreational Centre in Oranjemund. OFM, fully sponsored
by NAMDEB, will be providing the Oranjemund Community with topical, thought-provoking
local news and activities.
“The Communications Regulatory Authority of Namibia (CRAN) believes that radio is an
essential communication tool in many homes in Namibia. To date we have roughly 13 radio
stations and still counting. And even with this development, only 72% of Namibians had
coverage and access to radio in 2011. This even dropped from 72.6% in 2007. Community
radio stations, such as OFM, will go a long way to improve these statistics”, said Stanley
Shanapinda, Chief Executive Officer of the Communications Regulatory Authority of Namibia.
OFM is run by Naftal Negongo jnr. together with a group of volunteers. The radio station aims
to build and improve relationships, advance effective communication, promote and celebrate
diverse cultural, social, interfaith and religious practices in the Oranjemund community and
advance the cause of development, peace, rights of children, youth, women and the physically
challenged. OFM is located in the NAMDEB radio workshop on 8th avenue, Oranjemund.
OFM can be contacted on Tel: (063) 237111 or email [email protected]
