20, CHECK FOR DAMAGED PARTS. Before further useof the tool, a guard or other part that is damagedshould be carefully checked to ensure it will operateproperly and perform its intended function. Check foralignment of moving parts, binding of moving parts,mounting and any other conditions that may effect itssafe operation. A guard or other part that is damagedshould be properly repaired or replaced.

TURN OFF ALL CIRCUIT BREAKERS ANDREMOVE ALL FUSES in the work area when cuttinginto walls or blind areas.

Contact with "live" wires will make exposed metalparts of the tool "live" causing an electrical shock tothe operator.

17, WHEN CUTTING DRYWALL ELECTRICAL OUTLETOPENINGS using the outlet as a guide, always cut ina counter clockwise direction. The natural tendency ofthe tool to pull to the left will cause a "hugging"actiontoward the outlet box, resulting in a neatar cut.

18. NEVER LAY THE TOOL DOWN UNTIL THECUTTING BIT COMES TO A COMPLETE STOP. A

spinning bit can come in contact with the surface andpull it out of your control,

19, NEVER TOUCH THE CUTRNG BIT IMMEDIATELYAFTER USE. The bit will be too hat to be handled with

bars hands and will bum your fingers.

20, ALWAYS RE-TIGHTEN COLLET AND ALLADJUSTMENTS before starting the too/after a cuttingbit or accessory has been changed. Loose bits andadjustments can cause unexpected shiftingof the toolresulting in loss of control and injury from the bit orcutting tool being thrown.

This cutting tool is double insulated to protect you fromelectrical shock.

IAWAJ NINGIDouble insulated tools are equipped with a polarizedplug (one blade is wider than the other). This plug willfit into a polarized outlet only one way. ffthe plugdoes not fit fully into the outlet, reverse the plug. If itstill does not fit, contact a qualified eis_dcisn toinstall a polarized outlet. [3o not alter the plug in anyway. Double insulation eliminates the need for the threewire grounded power cord and grounded power supplysystem.

Avoid body contact with grounded surfaces such aspipes, radiators, ranges and refrigerators. There is anincreased risk of electric shock if your body is grounded.

Do not expose power tools to rain or wet conditions.Water entedng a power tool will increase the risk ofelectric shock.

Do not abuse the cord. Never use the cord to carrythe tool or pull the plug from the outleL Keep cordaway from heat, off, sharp edges and moving parts.Replace damaged cords Immediately. Damaged cordsincrease the dsk of electdc shock.

When operating a power tool outdoors, usa anoutdoor extension cord marked "W-A" or "W". Thesecords are rated for outdoor use and reduce the risk ofelectric shock.

Always makesure the receptacle is polarized. If youare not sure, have a qualifiedelectrician check thereceptacle.

Make sure your extension cord is in good condition.When using an extension cord, be sure to use one heavyenough to can/the current the tool will draw. Anundersized cord will cause a drop in line voltage resultingin lose of power and overheating. The table below showsthe correct size to use according to cord length andnameplate ampere rating. If in doubt, use the nextheavier gauge. The smaller the gauge number theheavier the cord.

Be sure your extension cord is properly wired and ingood condition. Always replace a damaged extensioncord or have it repaired by a qualified electrician beforeusing it. Protect your extension cord from sharp ct_jects,excessive heat and damp or wet areas.

Use a separate electrical circuit for your power tools.This circuit must not be less than 14 gauge wire andshould be protected with either a 15 Ampere time delayfuse or circuit breaker. Before connecting the power toolto the power source, make sure the switch is in the OFFposition and the power source is the same as indicatedon the nameplate. Running at lower voltage will damagethe motor.

Remove the plug from the power source beforeassembly, changing accessories or cutters andmaking adjustments. This safety action will helpprevent accidental starting of the tool which couldresult in serious injury.

OH I OFF & SPEED CONTROL SWITCHES

This cutting tool is equipped with a sliding ON / OFFswitch (1) located on the side of the tool and a speedcontrol switch (2) located on top of the tool (see Fig. 1).

Insed new cutting bit (4) into the collet.

Insert the bit all the way into the cohet and thenpull it back between t/t0" and l/e", This creates anair space between the motor shaft end the hit tohelp prevent overheating the bit.

Before tightening the collet on the bit, make surethe flutes (spiral portion) of the bit ere completelyvisible outside the catfat. Clamping the coltst onthe bit flutes will result in broken bits and possible _injury.

When hit is propedy placed in the collet, depress theshaft locking button and turn the collet nut clockwiseby hand as far as possible,

Securely tighten collet nut using the wrench.

1. TO turn the toot ON, slide the switch (1) up.

2. To turn the tool OFF, slide the switch down,

3. To set speedto highspeed,slidespeedcontrolswitch(2) awayfromthe ON / OFFswitch.

4. To set the speed control switch to low speed, slide thespeed control switch (2) toward the ON / OFF switch.

INSTALLING CUTtiNG BITS

iA WARNING I

Cutting bit and router bit cutting surfaces areextremely sharp. Handle with caution.

To insert a cuffing bit, use the collet wrench which is.in thewrench holder attached to the power cord.

1. Deprese the shaft locking bufton (1} and mtste thecollet lock nut (2) clockwise with the other hand untilthe locking button drops into place, preventing theshaft from turning (see Fig, 2).

2. While continuing to hold the shaft locking button IN,use the coflet wrench (3) to rum the collet nut counterclockwise. Loosen the collet nut two or three turns.

3. Remove bit if one is already installed in the tool.

WORK LIGHTS

The motor unit has two buitt-in work lights (5) (see Fig, 2).These work lights automatically light up when the motorswitch is famed ON. Patterns or drawings in theimmediate vicinity of the bit will be illuminated for bettervisibility and improved cutting accuracy.

SELECT APPROPRIATE MOTOR SPEED

Selecting the appropriate motor speed will ensuresmoother, more efficient cutting action. Choose LOWspeed for grinding, cuffing plastics, polishingand whenusing wire or bristle brushes. Cheese HIGH speed whencutting wood. using cut-off wheels and to reduce "shatter"that may develop when cutting some materials at LOWspeed.

CHANGINGCOLLETINSERT

Thecutting bits for this tool are locked into place with acollar nut (1) and coJlet(see Fig. 3). The tool is assembledat the factory with NO coilet installed. Both the l/a"and ¼"coilets can be found in the carrying case front lid storagecompartment. The 1/8" toilet (2) is used for holding hobbytool accessory bits. The ¼" coflet (3) is supplied forholding SMALL router bits with a %" shank.

To change from one cotlet size to the other:.

1. Remove bit from the tool.

2. Continue turning the collet nut counter clockwise untilit can be removed from the motor shaft (4).

3. Pull the co,el out of the motor shaft and replace itwiththe other one.NOTE: Each collet is the same on both ends, so eitherend can be inserted into the motor shaft,

4. Re-install the collet nut and slightly tighten it by hand.

5. Install the new bit as outlined in INSTALLINGCUTTING BITS on Page 9.

NOTE: Tightaning the oollet nut without a bit in the salletwill cause the collet hole to become smaller and make

installing bits difficult. When stodng the toot with no bitinstalled, leave collet nut loose.

INSTALLING FREEHAND SOLE PLATE

The freehand sole plate is designed for basic freehandcuffing with the cuffing bit. It is ideally suited for cuffingelectrical outlet holes in dPJwall.

1. Slide freehand sole plate mounting bracket (1) ontothe bottom of motor housing (2) until the slot in thebracket (3) lines up with the shaft locking button (4) inthe motor housing.NOTE: The mounting bracket must be pushed ontothe motor housing as far as it will go.

2. Lock the sole plate to the motor housing bysnappingthe quick locking lever (5) firmly against the motorhousing.

Adjust freehand sole plate depth by loosening thedepth gauge locking knob (6) and rotating theadjusting knob (7) to move the sole plate in or out asrequired (see Rg. 5).NOTE: Set the depth gauge so the cutting bitprotrudes beyond the sole plate 1/0"more than thethickness of the matadal being cut. For example, ifyou are cutting s/6"drywall, the bit should protrude ¾"beyond the sole plate.

Securely tighten depth gauge knob.

Before starting to cut you should re-check bit depth.Make sure sole plate is at dght angles to the bit andsecurely tightened. Re-check the collar to make surethe bit is sacureb/fastened.

Before attempting to work on an actual project, take thetime to make a few precise cuts with your cutting tool.Use some scraps of moledal that are the same material asused in your actual project.

1. Draw a pattern similar to your first project on a scrappiece of material.

2. Install freehand sole plate as shown in Fig. 4.

3. Installcuttingbit in the collolas shownin Fig.2.

4. Adjust depth of freehand sole plate as shown in Rg. 5.

5, Rest the edge of the sole plate on the workpiece withthe bit at an angle of about 45 ° (see Rg. 6),NOTE: DO NOT let the bit contact the workplece untilswitch is turned ON and the tool is up to full speed.

JA WARNINGIBefore turning the tool switch ON, make sure youhold the tool firmly with both hands. Startingtorque will cause the tool to twtaL

6. Set the speed control switch to the appropriate speed.

7. Turn the switch ON.

8, When the motor is up to full speed, slowly tip the toolto an upright position, le_ng the bit cut into thework.piece (see Fig. 7). Once the tool has roached theupdght position and the bit has cut through theworkpiece, slowly move the tod in a clockwisedirection using slow steady pressure to make the cut.NOTE: Except for cutting around outlet boxes indrywall, always cut in a clockwise direction.

9. When cut is complete, turn the tool OFF, wait until itcomes to a complete stop and remove it from theworkpiece,

cUTrlNG TIPS

The rotating cutting action of the bit willcause a slight pullto the left when cutting. Natural variations in the structureof wood will cause the bit to "wander'. This tendency willbe magnified when applying too much pressure to the bit,_ower cutting givoa you better control. Excessivepressure or fast cuffing will increase bit temperature andshorten _ life ofthe bit.

When cutting a hole in e vertical surface, avoid ending thecut at the bottom Of the hole. Always start and end the cutat the "top" so the cut.out part will not drop onto therotating bit. Always turn the tool OFF before removing itfrom the workpiece.

CUTTING OUTLET OPENINGS IN DRYWALL

IAOANGERIDo not attempt to use this tool to make cut-outsaround any fixture or opening which has live electricalwires or on any wall which may have electrical wiringbehind iL If a live wire is contacted, the bit couldconduct the electric current to the tool, creating anelectrocution hazard for the operator. Turn OFFbreakers or remove fuses to disconnect the electriccircuit in the area of work. Always hold the tool by itsinsulated housing when working in areas where thereis a possibility of contacting electric wires. Alwayswear eye protection when operating this tool.

1. Before installing drywall, push the electdcal wires tothe back of the box as far as possible so they will notbe cut by the bit when cutting the opening.

2. Before fastening the dr/wall sheet over the electricalbox, mark the sheet as close as possible to the centerof the box opening. Mark should be on the side of thedrywall facing you,

3. When fastening the drywall in place, do not place nailsor screws closer than 12" from the box. This willprevent the drywall from becoming deformed underpressure.

4. Insert cutting bit and install freehand sole plate asoutlined on Pages 9 & 10 of this Owner's Manual.Adjust depth of cut so the bit will protrude l/s" beyondthe thickness of the drywall.

5. Hold the tool firmly with both hands and tum it ON.Runge the bit through the drywalt at the markindicating the center of the box. See Fig. 8 for cuttingpattem.

Move the bit slowly to the right until you feel and heathe bit contacting the inside of the box.

Put] the bit out far enough to slip it over the edge ofthe box. Once the bit is outside the box. push it backto full depth beside the out,de edge of the box.

Move the toct upward while applying slight pressuretoward the center of the box. When you feel the bitroach the top dght hand comer of the box, move thetool to the left while applying slight pressuredownward toward the center of the box.

9. Continue moving the tool around the box in a counterclock'w_se direction while maintaining slight pressuretoward the center of the box. When the box cut-out iscomplete. Turn the tool OFF and remove it from thecut-out,

10. Completed electrical box cut-out will be accurately an_neatly cut (see Fig. 9).

INSTALLING PRECISION HANDLE

The precision handle is designed for use when precisioncontrol over the tool movement is desired. Thecomfodabie handle can be used with either the dght or lefthand.

1. Slide precision handle mounting bracket (1) onto thebottom of motor housing (2) unffi the slot under thehandle (3) lines up with the shaft tocking button (4) inthe motor housing (son Fig. 10).NOTES:

a) The mounting bracket must be pushed onto themotor housing as far as it will go.b) The shaft locking button (5) can now be activatedby your thumb while holding on to the precisionhandle

2. Lock the predsion handle to the motor housing bysnapping the quick locking lever (6) firmly against themotor housing.

1. Adjust precision handle sole plate depth by looseningthe depth gauge locking knob (7) and rotating theadjusting knob (8) to move the sole plate (9) in or outas required (see Fig. 11).NOTE: Set the depth gauge so the cutting bitprotrudes beyond the sole plate _/a"more than thethickness of the material being cuL For example ifyou are cutting 3/4"pine, the bit should pm_Jde fiB"beyond the sole plate.

2. Securely tighten depth gauge knob.

3. Before starting to cut you should recheck bit depth,make sure sole plate is at right angles to the bit andsecurely tightened. Re-check the coliet to make surethe bit is oncumly fastened.

EXTERNAL CLEANING

IA W NINGJDO NOT use solvents when cleaning plastic parts.Most plastics are susceptible to damage from varioustypes of commercial solvents and may be damaged bytheir use. Use clean cloth to remove dirt, dust, oil,grease, atc.

Do not at any time allow brake fluids, gasoline,petroleum-based products, penetrating oils, etc. tocome in contact with plastic parts. They containchemicals that cen damage, weaken or destroy plastic

INTERNAL CLEANING

It has bonn found that electdc tools are subjected toaccelerated wear and possible premature failure whenthey are used on fiberglass boats and sports cars,wallboard, spackling compounds or plaster. The chips andgdndings from these materials are highly abrasive toelectric tool parts such as beadngs, brushes, commutaton_,etc. Dudng any use on these materials it is extremelyimportant that the tool is cleaned frequently by blowing outwith a compressed air jet.

It Is critical that you wear safety goggles or safetyglasses with side shields and a dust mask whileblowing dust out of the cutting tool with acompressed air jet. Failure to take these safetyprecautions could result in permanent eye or lungdamage.

POWER CORD MAINTENANCE

I_h, WARNINGJTo avoid shock or fire hazard, replace the cordimmediately if it is worn or damaged in any way.

LUBRICATION

A_Iof the bearings in this cuffing tool are lubdcated with asufficient amount of high grade lubricant for the life of theunit under normal conditions. Therefore, no furtherlubrication is required.
