Basic operations for wastewater treatment plantsseptember 12 to november 16 Tuesdays & Thursdays | 6 to 9pm | Queensbury CampusParticipants in this 20-session course will experience a broad introduction and overview of wastewater treatment operations, excluding activated sludge (a separate course typically offered in the spring). Successful completion of a training course is required as part of the qualification process to take the New York State certification examinations. This is not intended to be an exam review course, and completing it cannot ensure successful completion of the certification exams.

This course’s outline will follow the New York State DEC’s“Curricula Guide for WWTP Operator Certification Training – Basic Operations Course,” and is also approved for credit toward recertification of a wastewater operator license.

Barre classseptember 13 to november 15Wednesdays | 5 to 6pm | Queensbury CampusWhat is Balancé Barre? a trendy, new and effective group fitness class like no other! Barre-based classes use a combination of postures inspired by ballet and other disciplines like yoga and Pilates. The ballet barre, or chairs, are used as props to balance while doing exercises that focus on isometric strength training. Isometric training is holding your body still while you contract a specific set of muscles combined with high reps of small range-of-motion movements. You will feel the burn! The major benefits of barre are improved posture, muscle definition, weight loss, increased flexibility and reduced stress. You will notice improved balance and stability as well. Everyone will leave class feeling challenged and invigorated!

You'll start with a warm-up and sequence of upper-body exercises, which include free weights, push-ups, planks and other moves to target the biceps, triceps, chest and back muscles. Next, you'll use the ballet barre (or chair) and your own bodyweight for resistance to focus on the legs, thighs and seat muscles. Your core will be engaged the entire class and then targeted at the end with a series of mat-based abdominal exercises. For the cool down, you'll go through a series of stretches to increase flexibility and allow your muscles to recover.

Your coach will ease you into the adrenaline pumping sport of running by starting you out with an interval walking and jogging routine. Over the 10-week program, you will be amazed at your progress.

a quarter-mile time will be taken at the first and last class so that you can see your progress. Your training will prepare you to successfully complete a local 5K race. Today, the cottage remains essentially the same as during the Grant family's stay. You will tour the downstairs of the cottage, viewing the original furnishings, decorations, and personal items belonging to Grant, including the bed where he died and floral arrangements that remain from Grant's funeral.
