Mundesley Coastwatch -Seeing Double.

Mundesley Coastwatch in partnership with: National CoastwatchInstitute and North Norfolk District Council, will be signicantlyincreasing its Eyes Along the Coast service in Mundesley through theintroduction of a new seasonal look out station at Vale Road.It has taken a year to bring this vision to reality but thanks to the hardwork of all partners during the detailed assessment phase, the project

will be piloted this August (2016). With an ever increasing need forbeach and inshore water safety to protect our residents and visitors this isfabulous news for Mundesley Coastwatch and for Mundesley Village.

National Coastwatch Institute is thrilled to be adding another link to theEyes Along the Coast chain and will be providing the new look out.

North Norfolk District Council will be providing: the signage, anemergency phone line and a phone line connecting the new look out tothe existing look out above Mundesley Maritime Museum on BeachRoad.Mundesley Coastwatch is proud to be leading the way with this

pilot project and will provide the additional Watch Keepers and thetechnology required to deliver the role eectively.All involved in Mundesley Coastwatch were thrilled to receive an earlycontribution of 250 from the EDP Community Chest.If you would like to know more about the service provided byMundesley Coastwatch or you wish to make a donation towards its

Dear EditorI write regarding the comments of Mr J Thompson(CROMER) In your CRAB TALES issue 086.Regarding the Brexit Referendum.I agree in part with Mr Thompsons comments thatelected o cials are frightening and confusing people,however, Mr Thompson has himself caused peoplesto be concerned by his comments regarding variouscountries of the world as mentioned by him. He hasfailed to mention Germany which is by denition afar greater threat than those countries mentioned inhis comments the last two world wars were started byGermany history proves this fact and it now seemspretty obvious in our time that their intention is toovercome as many nations as possible by the backdoor. Our prime Minister was recently reported asbeing the leader this countries poodle. Mr Thompsonmentioned Russia we must never forget that manymillions of Russians died defeating nazi Germany.People need to very carefully consider what theyare getting into when they cast their vote in the

referendum. The Choice is REMAIN in a razor wireseparated club run by non elected bureaucrats oralternatively, BREXIT get Control of our borders,have our Sovereignty or Political Power back sothat we can make our own laws and not be told howwe can and cannot spend the enormous amount ofcash that we hand over to the EU every year, wecan also have our shing rights restored and not begiven petty rules on vacuum cleaners, kettles, bentcucumbers and thousands of other restricting rulesthat we are all ordered to comply with.June 23rd might just be the most important date in allour lives.Thank YouCharles Watts Mundesley North Walsham Norfolk.12th May 2016

The Overstrand Gardening Club heldtheir monthly meeting on Tuesday 3rdMay. The speaker was Shelagh Ashe, theillustrated talk was called Gertrude JekyllThe Legendary Gardener.Gertrude Jekyll is remembered for being acelebrated horticulturist, garden designer,artist and writer of books and articles formagazines.

She is also remembered for her associationwith the Art and Crafts movement and herwork with the famous architect Sir EdwinLutyens.The talk highlighted that she showedgreat attention to the colour schemes ofher gardens, and plants were planted indrifts. Her gardens showed her artistictalent for colour and the choice of varioustextures, also her plantsmanship, artistryand philosophy.The talk gave a wonderful insight intothis renowned lady and was very wellreceived, and showed that Gertrude Jekyllwas and is a true inspiration to gardeners.

shoulder to get his attention.The driver screamed, lost control of thecab, nearly hit a bus, droveup over the curb and stopped just inchesfrom a large plate window.For a few moments everything was silentin the cab. Then, the shakingdriver said, Are you OK? Im so sorry,

but you scared the daylightsout of me.The badly shaken passenger apologized tothe driver and said, Ididnt realize that a mere tap on theshoulder would startle someone so

badly.

Along with millions of people in townsacross the country, Cromer will cometogether on June 12th to celebrate with theQueen.Community groups from across Cromer,

THE STRANGE CASE OFTHE SEEPING STREET

In August of 2015 reports were made ofwater seeping up through the street on

the seafront road in Mundesley betweenSPAR and THE CORNER CAFE.

The combined wisdom of the HighwayAgency, Norfolk County Council and

Anglian Water were pressed into action.After a mere two months the growing dipin the road was addressed but the seepage

continued unabated.A full Eight months after the initial reportwe saw real action. Was this the answer?

NO.To this day the road refuses to both stop

seeping or give up its secrets. Its dicultnot to think that because the seepage iswater, that Anglian Water may be the

villains of the piece. So dont be surprisedif you cross the road betwen Spar and The

Corner Cafe that you see this!!

Pre-diabetes What Is It?Many of you will have heard the term pre-diabetes over the past few years, some ofyou may already have been diagnosed with pre-diabetes so lets try to answer someof your questions.

What is pre-diabetes?Pre-diabetes is the term clinicians use when a patients blood sugars are elevated butnot enough to be diagnosed with diabetes. In the past, doctors have used terms such asimpaired glucose tolerance, impaired fasting glycaemia and metabolic syndrometo describe this group of patients. Clinicians are now using the term pre-diabetes to

describe this condition.How common is pre-diabetes?It is estimated that over a third of adults in the UK have pre-diabetes (approx. 35%).This gure has risen signicantly since 2003 when it was estimated that approximately11.6 % of adults had pre-diabetes.

What does pre-diabetes mean for the patient?Having pre-diabetes places you at a signicantly higher risk of developing type 2diabetes.

Does having pre-diabetes mean I will denitely develop diabetes?No . Having prediabetes means you are more likely but not guaranteed to developtype 2 diabetes.

Will I have pre-diabetes for ever?Not necessarily, patients with pre-diabetes who undertake appropriate lifestyle changessuch as weight loss, healthy diet and increased exercise may see a reduction in their

blood sugar levels. This reduction in blood sugar level could mean that patients whohave been diagnosed with pre-diabetes may see their sugar levels return to the level of a

person who does not have pre-diabetes.

How do I know if I have pre-diabetes?Most patients with pre-diabetes do not experience any symptoms. Pre-diabetes isnormally diagnosed either as an incidental nding when having blood tests for otherreasons or when they have routine health checks.

Who is at risk of having pre-diabetes?Being overweight and having a large waist size are both a primary risk factor for pre-diabetes (and diabetes).Inactivity The less active you are, the greater your risk of pre-diabetes.Age. Although diabetes can develop at any age, the risk of pre-diabetes does increaseas you get older, especially after age 45.Family history .The risk of prediabetes (and diabetes) increases if an immediate

biological family member has type 2 diabetes.Can I nd out if I have pre-diabetes?If you have concerns about pre-diabetes you should contact your GP surgery to nd out

if you are eligible for a health check.

The Cinnamon TrustIn a nutshell, its a charity which enables the elderly and/ orterminally ill to continue living with their valued companionuntil the very end.

For many elderly people, a pet is a constant companion in livesdiminished by poor health, loss and loneliness. When owners

fall ill, anxiety over their animals welfare (and future) triggersextreme anxiety. Reducing these fears in fact, eliminating them- is exactly where the Cinnamon Trust can step in. Throughoutthe UK, 15,000 volunteers provide practical help when anyaspect of daily pet care such as dog walking for a houseboundowner becomes a problem. For many elderly pet lovers, theCinnamon Trust is a life line. The pet remains happy; so too theowner.Worrying about what will happen to a pet on ones death or ifone is admitted to a residential home where no pets are allowed- is a huge anxiety that the Trust can eliminate. Animals areeither re-homed with long term foster carers (for whom all pre-authorised veterinary expenses are paid by the Trust), or given ahome at one of the Trusts two animal sanctuaries. Arrangementsare made reassuringly well in advance, so that owners have peaceof mind knowing that their beloved companion will have a safeand happy future. The Trust also oers short term care in theevent, say, of an owner facing a spell in hospital. Care doesntstop at dogs: cats, bird, rabbits are all provided for by the Trust.The Cinnamon Trust always needs more walkers. If you have anhour, two hours, or even half an hour to oer a week, please stepforward. Walkers are carefully vetted via three references, andundergo on-going appraisal. Fenellaschow Chow Rescue:UPDATE

SCOOBY the 8 year old rescue chow chow with Calcinosis Cutishas now been diagnosed with Cushings Syndrome. This meanshe needs the cortisol levels checked every few weeks with bloodtests. This disease is not curable but he is now taking medicationto help control this. Once the levels are stable, SCOOBY will beable to travel to Yorkshire to have his large neck and face lesionsremoved. This delicate surgery will be performed at the original

James Herriot Practice. The operation will be performed by awonderful veterinary surgeon who has helped dogs in Scoobyscondition. We are now fundraising to help pay for Scoobys

surgery.MAYA the rescue chow also residing at The Old Chow RescueHome is doing well. Her eye operation has made her eyes clearand free from being damaged by her eyelashes/fur. She can see

images slightly when she is near to them. Her corneas are lighterin colour now and she is no longer in pain. She does however

nd the bright sunshine rather a glare so at times her eyes areprotected.

BARBIE is on her way looking for a new forever loving home.Shes nearly 4 years of age and has slight hip dysplacia . She

suered bloat a few months ago but has totally recovered havinghad immediate surgery. We are hoping to raise funds for herveterinary surgery for spaying and travel to arrive in England

safely.We would like to thank all the members of the public whom have

Half term active fun for childrenTrampolining, football, roller skating, pirates, capture the ag,dodgeball and an activity day are all on oer this coming springhalf term for youngsters seeking active fun.The activities will be held at North Walsham Sports Centre, run

Bin collections across the District will be one day later than usualdue to the Bank Holiday on May 30.All collections in the week commencing Monday May 30 will

be one day later than usual. Everything goes back to the usualcollection days from Monday June 6.

George the Second donates toCromer RNLI

Last month Cromer RNLI had an unusual request regarding a bequest of a

Swaffham man who died in March. George Atkinson was keen that money bedonated to Cromer RNLI. Relatives of a gentleman affectionately known as

George the Second contacted the station to inform them that George had died

just two weeks before his 105th birthday.

Despite more than 90 years of attempts, the 104-year-old had never backed a

winner at the Grand National. He had once again hoped to turn his luck around

when he planned to place a bet on his 105th birthday in February 2016.

George had led a very full life, serving in the forces during the second world war.

These experiences had given him a long respect and interest for the RNLI and

George was always keen to hear about the work carried out at Cromers lifeboat

station. Members of the crew had visited him in his home to talk about recent

launches. Barry Willett Georges grandson in law visited the station to present

a cheque to Cromer RNLI. Barry said

George was an inspiration to everyone

and always had a positive outlook on life.

Until last year George was to be found

at his local supermarket on his mobility

scooter collecting money for the RNLI.We have now carried out his last request

that this wonderful organisation should

benefit.
