In this edition, we present some of our new Supply Partners, including Maxxia, Randstad and Voca.

You already know that these programs can be complex and onerous to administer – and risky when not done properly. Understanding tax and compliance issues, arranging maintenance, negotiating with suppliers, ensuring timely transactions, and responding to employees’ queries, can detract from an organisation’s core mission.

To assist our Members in this area, Church Resources has added Maxxia, Australia’s leading provider of workplace benefit programs including salary packaging, vehicle leasing and fleet management services, to our Supplier Partners.

As Church Resources’ new Preferred Partner, Maxxia (part of the ASX-listed McMillan Shakespeare Group), provides comprehensive benefit administration services to employers, and is backed by unrivalled expertise, experience and resources.

Maxxia is Australian-based with more than 20-years’ industry experience and has a 700-strong, service-oriented staff located in offices across the country. They are committed to providing specialist expertise and exceptional customer service across a comprehensive suite of workplace benefits. Those benefits include salary packaging, novated leasing, fleet management and insurance; as well as asset finance and management solutions.

“For organisations with existing outsourcing arrangements, our dedicated project management teams are experienced in managing the process of transition to Maxxia in a seamless fashion,” said Maxxia Group Executive Salary Packaging Peter Lang.

“We can minimise any potential administration or tax headaches, and we will communicate with your staff about all the benefits we offer,” he said. “We offer

your employees real benefits and genuine savings, and provide you with a flexible and reliable program that is designed to meet your ongoing needs.

“Maxxia maintains a friendly and personalised customer service approach. Phone calls are answered by real people, not machines, and there is a long-standing commitment to deliver seamless transactions each and every time,” Mr Lang said.

To find out more about salary packaging, novated leasing and fleet management with Maxxia, contact Church Resources by emailing [email protected] or calling 1300 248 724.

Taking the work out of employee benefits

Attracting and retaining staff is vital to an organisation’s success, so a comprehensive benefits program is key not only to keeping current employees but to attracting the best prospects.

Smarter paydaysWith Australia’s retiree community set to double within 20 years, Christadelphian Aged Care is committed to expanding its operations to keep pace. To achieve this, it required a comprehensive payroll and people management solution that met specific requirements, not least of those being a best-fit for the not-for-profit aged care industry.

“Understanding our business and challenges”

Having twice before gone down the bureau path for its payroll, Christadelphian Aged Care sought a solution that would afford it full control over, not only its payroll and HR data, but the management and processing as well. In addition, the organisation’s General Manager, Corporate Services, Andrew O’Toole, stipulated that the new solution would need to be proven in the aged care industry and supported by a company with a strong track record.

Following evaluation of five separate solutions – and their providers – Christadelphian Aged Care opted for the Preceda solution. According to Andrew, along with Preceda being one of the preferred solutions for the aged care industry, NorthgateArinso (formerly Neller) differentiated itself by: “…understanding our business and challenges; and representing the NorthgateArinso company and Preceda solution accurately.”

Responsive payroll

With payroll being the first of the Preceda components to be implemented, the entire Christadelphian Aged Care employee base gained an immediate advantage – a responsive payroll. In contrast to the bureau payroll services, Payroll/HR Supervisor Leanne Kenny can effect payroll adjustments within 15 minutes, which is a far cry from the average one week response time that was previously the case.

Streamlining payroll adjustments even more is Preceda’s automatic calculation and adjustment of employee tax amounts for the respective pay periods. At the financial control level, Christadelphian Aged Care’s move to Preceda is proving crucial to maintaining accurate and up-to-date finance records.

Dealing with complex awards

Of even greater value to Christadelphian Aged Care is Preceda’s ease of management over complex payrolls that feature a wide range of awards, allowances and leave entitlements – a complexity that is typical in the aged care industry.

With nurses, chefs, kitchen hands, activity officers, administrators and maintenance teams being just a few of the enormous range of job roles within Christadelphian Aged Care, Leanne states that Preceda can handle them all with ease and accuracy, resulting in more reliable payroll processing.

New insights into the business

For management, Preceda is providing Christadelphian Aged Care with new

insights into the business, especially with the Preceda Extractor tools extensive reporting capabilities.

With Extractor, managers have powerful business analysis capabilities, evidenced when Andrew utilised it to generate comprehensive cost and resource analysis reports of the organisation’s facilities. This enabled a fine tuning of shifts that reduced operational overheads while also ensuring care services were maintained at best practice levels.

Moving Forward

“In fact” Andrew concludes, “Preceda is an ideal fit for this industry; and a key part of how the payroll function provides value is in analysing for staff optimisation and other business improvements. Ultimately, it will help us move forward successfully in an industry where the momentum of change continually increases”

Is travel one of your organisation’s biggest budget items? Do you need to reduce those costs? Do you need to deliver a service into a classroom or to a patient in a remote area, and Skype just doesn’t cut the mustard?

It might be time for video conferencing. Here at Church Resources, we found a solution – and implemented it in our own offices. So, who did we go with? Our new Supplier Partner, IPL Communications and its affiliate, Voca, a wholly Australian-owned company, delivering outstanding service and support, for more than 30 years.

Through IPL and Voca, the world’s best quality and most affordable high definition video conferencing product range is now available through Church Resources. In terms of ROI, total cost of ownership and payback time, this range of high definition video conferencing (HDVC) solutions offers unmatched price performance.

The Voca product range integrates easily with any existing

equipment and delivers the best outcome per bandwidth of any product range in the market. In other words, it delivers better picture and sound quality using a lower bandwidth.

Typically, travel expenditure is reduced significantly; and there is an added benefit – a much lower impact on the environment. One Voca customer in the not-for-profit sector, an Australian community bank with 13 regional offices, recently reported a saving of more than $50,000 per month on travel expenditure.

The benefits are not restricted to reducing travel costs and helping the environment, in the not-for-profit sector. The sharing of knowledge and resources make an even more profound impact.

For Church Resource members, HDVC can open new horizons in terms of resource sharing. One church could be connected to five others, or remote regional communities, during mass on Sundays. Community services can be expanded through remote consultation with professionals and colleagues in the health, welfare or aged care environments. The impact on the education community could include sharing one science teacher with several country schools – or even an overseas sister school.

If you’re trying to get in better shape and just live healthier overall, your iPhone can be an immensely helpful tool. Here’s a look at our favourite IOS apps that help you exercise, eat better and live a healthier life, writes LifeHacker (http://www.lifehacker.com.au/)

Nike Training Club

There are a lot of apps which claim to be a pocket personal trainer but this one is actually pretty effective. It teaches you to do the exercises, gives you workouts tailored to your specific goals, and gives you point-based incentives so exercising is more like a game with rewards. It’s really everything you could ask for in a workout trainer, but what’s especially incredible is that it’s free. All the video takes up a lot of space so it’ll take some time to download, but that 600-some MB of data is absolutely worthwhile. If you’re serious about getting in shape but don’t really know what to do, this app is perfect for you.

RunKeeper

RunKeeper is a free alternative to Nike’s sensor (although you can pay for extra features) that will track your runs and give you plenty of feedback. It uses your iPhone’s GPS to track where you’ve gone. This is great for those times when you find a really great route and want to repeat it, plus it gives you a lot of neat data to play with. If you split your running between the outdoors and the gym, RunKeeper will let you enter manual data (such as a treadmill run) so no run goes untracked. RunKeeper works with the music already on your iPhone and provides you with audio cues as you progress through your run. It is overall our favourite mobile fitness app. As an added bonus, the Pro version is free through January.

Lose It!

Knowing the foods going into your body and tracking what you eat can be very helpful. Hopefully you’re eating plenty of these calorie-burning foods, but either way you can track them all with Lose It! Lose It! lets you enter everything you eat and helps you estimate calories with information that’s built into the app. You can enter your goals and Lose It! will show you your progress. If you exercise, you can enter that into the app as well to account for any added calorie burn. Lose It! is private by default, but it will also let you share your progress with friends. If you have a bunch of friends with iOS devices who are also looking to lose weight/eat healthier, you can track each other’s progress as well.

Church Resources is now an Authorised Apple Reseller and can offer Members a full range of Apple products at special prices, with further discounts available for bulk purchases. To learn more, visit www.churchresources.com.au/apple
