1. Use highlighters or coloured pencils to mark the words above as masculine, feminine or neuter and plural.

2. The definite article the is replaced by der, die or das in German. The indefinite article, a or an, is replaced by ein (for masculine and neuter nouns) and eine (for feminine nouns).e.g. Neuter noun – das Buch – Das ist ein Buch. (The same pattern applies to masculine nouns.)

3. Below are Ben and Mia. Ben is 12 years old. Mia is 13. Write a conversation in which they greet each other and ask each other’s names. One of them should ask how to spell/write the other’s name and the other should answer. Then get them to ask each other’s age and have each of them tell the other the answer. Lastly, they should say goodbye.
