Happy New Year to All Our David M. Cox Families and Students! Welcome 2015!

Cub Cheers: Great job to our students from Ms. Pricketts class and Mrs. Hensons class, they did our Friday Announcements before and after break and did fantastic! Congratulations to the following students for receiving the Cox Cub of the Week award: Alexander Pena, Ethan Kahl, Hunter Downey, Jason Rawlings, Samantha Torrance, Aiden Gdovin, Jimmy Marshell, Saahil Kukreja, Brailen Winkler, Ernesto Rivera, Rubi Zaragoza, Emma Duran, Jan Berlinkski, Jaden Krejsa, Max Breazeal, Brandon Reitz, Tanner Lewis, Anthony Richey, Joshua Matallana, Diana Hernandez, Christian Bergonzoni, Rebecca Frommer, Aryn Koch, Alanso Scott-Hernandez, and Chaz Verdugo! Great job on outstanding behavior! Congratulations to Mr. Hale and Ms. Popeck for receiving the Cox Teacher of the Week award!

Student Star: Congratulations to Kennedi Logan, she was the first fourth grader of the year to earn the Great Nevadan achievement for the grade level!

David Cox PTA: Thank you to those who were able to attend the PTA meeting last Tuesday, your support is truly appreciated! Families, please remember that the first Tuesday of every month is our Parent Teacher Association meetings and they are always at 6 pm in our Library. Next meeting is 2/3/15 at 6 pm in Library. Notes from the meeting: Discussed a Blood Drive on February 12th, a Family Bingo Night in our MP Room, and reviewed minutes along with the PTAs budget report. PTA is looking to possibly begin a school beautification committee to work on graphics for our building, the Fun Run brought in approximately $14,000.00 in profit for our PTA which supports our school projects and programs (such as AR and Math Facts in a Flash). The PTA purchased half of the new soccer goals and gym-n-ee hoops to be installed on our campus. Our Reflections Assembly has a tentative date of 1/28/15 and will be in the morning in our MP Room. We had 266 entries from our school! Teachers are requesting a new laminator as the current laminator for the school is failing. Next Cox Family Dinner Night will be at Caf Rio at Eastern on 1/29/15 and runs all day to support our school!

Milers Recognitions: We would like to thank all our Gold Milers Sponsors for the 2014-2015 school year and also to our wonderful volunteers who come and help every morning!

David M. Cox Zoning News/Update: After receiving conflicting emails/flyers, Ive finally gotten a confirmation which IS accurate! We are up for a rezoning! This WOULD IMPACT our current classrooms! We are up for a proposal to receive approximately 94 students from Hill and Weiner Elementary Schools. This boundary would include houses on the west side of Eastern up to Spencer between Warm Springs and Windmill. Although our building is just under capacity that does not mean that those students would go into the 3 empty portables, this impact would affect all classrooms both in and out of the building. Should we receiving the full 94 students, we would be at max capacity. Rezoning does not take into consideration Zone Variances, and with rezoning, the possibility of NOT allowing zone variances due to overcrowding would have to be considered. The school and its employees have NOTHING to do with rezoning decisions all questions may be taken to AZAC Committee http://azac.ccsd.net or call 702-799-0239.Semester Ends on Friday: Our first semester ends this Friday and all grading is final on the 20th. We will be having Honor Roll Assemblies for students receiving recognitions for their outstanding academic and behavior performance this first semester. If your child is going to be recognized your childs teacher will send home a notice of invitation. Please refer to the Student/Parent Handbook for requirements of all the Honor Roll Recognitions.
