    • The man began to cultivate the land around the 6000 before Christ. With the birth of the agriculture, the man began to use the bovines for the work in the field. Immediately the man discovered the effects on the soil of the cow manure.
    • From the birth of human civilization, the cow manure was used as fertilizer.

    • The manure improve the soil properties, both physical and chemical.
    • Important is the quantity of mineral elements.
    • Increase the growth
    • of the plants.

    • Cow manure is still used.
    • With the coming of the tractors, the bovines are no longer used for the work.
    • In the farms the number of cows is decreased, so the manure is decreased too.
    • Without manure the farmers fertilize the land with the chemical fertilizers.
    • The effect of the chemical fertilizers are negative for the environment .

    • Cow manure can be used not only as fertilizer.
    • An Indian custom is use the manure as fuel, with cow dung patties. Its used for cooking.
  • 6. Other uses
    • In Africa cow manure is used to repel mosquitoes. The cow dung (the solid part of manure) is burning into the home.
    • In cold places, cow dung is used to line the walls as a cheap thermal insulator.
  • 7. New uses
    • Recent studious have found a new use for cow manure.
    • With special system is possible generate energy.
    • These special system are the digesters.
    • There are many types of digesters. The basic principle is similar for all.
    • Cow manure is conveyed in a big tank, where the natural bacteria break down the manure giving heat and methane gas. After, through a natural motor, the methane is transformed in energy.

    • The production of energy through cow manure is good for the environment.
    • The digesters may be a solution for the global warming.
