I. Background – stealing from good people!II. Off-season thought process

A. 4 major questions:Does it fit our philosophy? Does it fit our kids? Can we coach it and fix the problems? Does it help us beat the key teams on our schedule?

B. Making it fit1. Situation sheet 2. Needs chart 3. Breakdown grid4. Pre-season rep allotment 5. Installation calendar 6. Skills sheet

III. Pre-season: Teaching & Installing A. CD Playbook

Philosophy – Instructional – You Draw it - VideoB. Installation day

Walk through – Practice schedule – Installation drill (phases)

IV. In-season: Putting it to work game week *The big question: What JOBS do we hav to get done this week, & how are our Flow Screens going to help us get them done?WEEKLY IMPROVEMENT – PERSONNEL – SITUATIONS – FORMATIONS

A. Scouting report: Bring focus to the work to be done in practice, present a plan to win!B .Scout tape: Time efficiency – Coach from ‘remote’ – Reinforce points f/Scout reptC. Practice rep allotment: Make every rep count, organize thought processD. Screen weekly practice progression: M time-up / W TTO/Screen period / Th Review / Importance of W-T!E. Formation considerations/goals

1. Know who your best screener is! 2. Marry with formations/actions from week previous, early in game!

3. Who is the spy? LB? DL? 4. Get a hat assigned for rolled down safety support5. Get the fast flow guy on the screen’s FRONTSIDE 6. Try to avoid on the line overhangs to screen side7. TE to screen’s BACKSIDE helps! 8. LB contortion/slide9. Movement via EYES (motion)

F. Situations *1st down: RUN ACTION *2 XL & 3 M-L: PASS ACTION*Red zoneG. Versions & Alerts: a) Pass (1-2/game) b) Run (1-2/game) c. Boot d. Qk Scr

•The Flow Screen is a big play tool that gives us a chance to rip off big chunks of yardage when defenses overreact! They are known as “Flow Screens” because we work hard to create defensive ‘flow’ in one direction by creating the look of a particular play (run, pass, screen, or bootleg), then “throwing back” behind a wall of blockers in the opposite direction!

•The goal is to SEPARATE the frontside of the defense from the backside…MOVE as many defenders in one direction as possible, then SEAL them off with our receiver and Center, then SEPARATE them with our guard’s kick-out block, giving our screener a lane to run through!

•We can literally screen to any eligible receiver we have, and we can bring him from anywhere as long as he gets to the 4 x 4 “screen spot.” We can also give our flow screens different looks by “marrying” them to different run and pass actions, making them good compliments to our best plays!

•Situationally, Flow Screens can be used on all down & distances, all the way through the Red Zone!

KEYS to a successful play:KEYS to a successful play:•QB SELLS the play with eyes, tempo, and patience, moving FS LB, safety, & BSLB!•SCREENER does what needs to be done to get lost! Low pad level!•SCREENER doesn’t pop out until his blockers do, presses his guard’s block!•TACKLE does a great sell job opening the window and makes necessary adjustments to protect it!•FRONTSIDE LINEMEN eliminate penetration & buy QB time to sell the play!•BACKS & RECEIVERS FS/Not in play SELL the play being faked in every detail!•PULLING G & C take convincing sets, allow penetration, and run full-speed courses to the “HALFWAY RENDEZVOUS” with their EYES!•OUTSIDE RECEIVER seals the alley with a great, well-timed CRACK block!
