Cognition

The child’s innate verbal and performance abilities are included in combination with their development in the eight intelligences. This function includes a child’s personality style.

Attention/Intention

attention addresses the ability to focus and select areas of attention and then maintain that attention. Intention deals with the ability to inhibit inappropriate responses.

Sequential/Spatial

Sequencing involves a child’s ability to sequence, sounds, numbers, syllables, words etc. Spatial pertains to forming mental pictures of the external world and making mental movies while reading or listening.

Temporary/Long-term Memory

This function enables students to remember phone numbers, directions, facts, as well as retain information studied in a text or heard in lectures.

Language

These areas are our two basic language systems. The linguistic system deals with a child’s ability to learn any language they are exposed to early in life; it also develops the prerequisites for reading,. Logical Quantitative involves a child’s maturation from concrete problem solving to dealing with abstract problems algebraically.

Encoding

Initially it involves a child ability to write (encode) symbols, words and sentences that s/he hears. It also involves a child’s athletic abilities in all sports areas.

Social

This involves the skill set of nonverbal (gestures, facial expressions) and verbal abilities (asking questions, affirming another person). This is best measured by the child’s social circle. Dose s/he have friends and are they the same age or are they younger or older?
