Dear Sir / Madam

I am very grateful to have the opportunity to work in the United States. My name is Wenli

Fan. I hold a PH.D in urban design from Tongji University, which is one of the best architecture

and urban planning universities of china. Currently I work as the Director of Urban Design

Research Center in SIADR (Shanghai Institute of Architecture Design & Research), which is the

one of the most historic and the most influential architectural and engineering design company in

China, also the subsidiary of Shanghai Xian Dai Architecture Design Group (XD-AD). I worked as

the team leader and chief urban designer in SIADR over 6 years, So far my design team have

finished over 20 urban design projects, both government-oriented and developers-oriented, the

scale from a few blocks to new city. At present I am in charge of a large complex project about

Science and Technology Blocks Development in Shanghai. I am additionally leading a research

project entitled “Urban design strategies for sustainable community”, focused on urban design

strategies, principles, methods and guidelines tackling the rapidly urbanization challenges for

Chinese Contemporary City by comparing Shanghai with other global metropolitans. During the 6-years doctoral learning and 6-years professional working, I have become intimately

familiar with domestic sustainable development ,urban renewal and government management process,

such as CBD mix-used development, pedestrian system control, water-front area Development,

Eco-Town Planning, the transformation of old industrial area, the reuse of EXPO-area, and the university

campus planning . I now have a strong desire to take this opportunity to broaden my horizons by

working and exchanging design concepts in a foreign environment. I am qualified with any kind of

urban design job. I will do my best and do real contribution in this internship. I also believe the

learning from the internship will be great helpful to my future practice in china.

Now I am a short-term scholar of University of Oregon for sustainable design. During the 3

months I participated the urban design project of Milwaukie (Oregon) and attended many

lectures. My study will finish at the end of March. I have two months for internship from Apr 6 to

Jun 6.

By the way I have cooperated with some foreign design companies (Nikken Sekkei LTD, John

Portman & Associates, Pelli Clarke Pelli Architects, and Weddle Landscape design and so on) in

different projects, these relevant experiences could ensure my internship goes smoothly.
