Courtyard Playhouse Training and Development is an innovative and experienced company. We use professional actors and theatrical techniques to address the development interests of our clients.

TRAINING AND DEVELOPMENT

welcome to our first ever Season Brochure! The Playhouse has come a long way since our official opening in March. We have three new team members, working to make the Playhouse even better. Our backstage area is very near completion and we now have two newly renovated audience washrooms as well as much-needed AC in the stairwell.

We are thrilled to announce our line-up for the coming season. There’s a lot of exciting improv’ to look forward to, as well as plenty of drama and music. Our new weekly MaestroTM show starting September 17th is set to become a favourite for fans of the Dubai comedy scene. And don’t miss our seasonal Grassroots Revue, featuring the very best of Dubai’s performing arts talent, with 100% locally produced, original content. It makes for an exciting and varied night of entertainment.

Fast paced, unpredictable and hilarious... If you’ve never seen improv’ comedy at the Playhouse, this raucous show is the one to catch. Ten of Dubai’s virtuoso actors converge for a night of scenes, songs and games based on audience suggestions. You score the players on a scale of 1 to 5 and after each round the players with the lowest scores are eliminated.

Theatresportstm Teens

Fast paced, unpredictable, and hilarious

Theatresports™ is improvised theatre entertainment played as a spectator sport. Teams of players invent scenes from suggestions they are given, while following particular sets of rules we call “games”. Everything is made up on the spot; the lights, music, dialogue, mime and song. The teams are judged on their ability to follow the rules of each game, deliver a cohesive story line and entertain the audience.

Improv’, as popularised by the TV show Whose Line Is It Anyway?, ignites spontaneity, develops lateral thinking, encourages team work and releases the potential artist in us all.

WEEKLY MAESTRO IMPROV’ SHOW

If you’ve never seen improv’ comedy at the Playhouse, this raucous, incredible show, playing for the first time in the Middle East, is the one to catch. ACT 1 Ages 5 - 7Drama classes for younger children are designed to take them on exciting adventures, where they’re free to explore the wonderful world of drama.

ACT 2 Ages 8 - 11Pupils are encouraged to explore a wide range of drama, poetry, prose, performance techniques and drama games. They will develop using various techniques and learn to express themselves through their bodies and language.

ACT 3 Ages 12 - 16Classes provide our young performers a platform where they can explore and communicate creative ideas, thoughts and feelings in a wide range of dramatic languages.
