He has been on the Briercrest faculty since 1996. IDST 200 Interdisciplinary Studies: Modernity and Postmodernity Mar. 24 - 28 Grant Poettcker, PhD FE 130 Kaléo Practicum, Fall & Spring Lyann Ramsay, Assistant Kaléo program leader Practical, weekly ministry assignments in evangelism, discipleship, church, camp and community related. Courses in the Kaléo program are mostly modular, which means that courses are completed one at a time rather than over a semester. The actual classroom time is completed in a five-day period, when a professor comes to Qwanoes, with the occasional exception of a course being spread over a longer period. Before each course, students are given a syllabus with pre-course assignments such as reading and research, and students complete papers and other assignments before and after the week of classes. Most courses also have final exams. Professors are aware of the nature and focus of this program, and seek to offer assignments that are as “hands-on” as possible. The faculty selected by Briercrest is an excellent example of the quality of professors Briercrest has to offer. Most professors travel from the Briercrest campus in Caronport, SK, and stay at Qwanoes for the week, often accompanied by their spouse. Students have exceptional opportunity to interact with their professors. ACADEMICS REQUIREMENTS One of the goals of the Kaléo program leaders and interns are to help you succeed academically and get the most out of each course. They will be available to help you understand assignments and find the resources to complete them. As well, with the low student/professor ratio, you will enjoy having access to your professors throughout the week they are with us. The Kaléo program has rigorous academics as a big part of the overall leadership training experience. This is a college-based program. For each course you will be required to do many hours of reading and writing, and will sometimes need to choose studying over optional activities that are more "fun." A good rule of thumb is to “work hard now, play hard later.” We will do our best to keep you accountable, but you will have quite a bit of unstructured study time that you will need to learn to manage well. This is a great opportunity to develop and grow personal discipline, and in the case of some, to overcome the problem of procrastination. ACCREDITATION & PROFESSORS The Kaléo program is a Certificate Program through which the student achieves 30 credits, the equivalent of one year's study. These credits are fully transferrable into any program at Briercrest College. Briercrest’s accreditation status with the Association for Biblical Higher Education provides the opportunity for possible transferability of Kaléo program courses to other education institutions. Please contact the Briercrest Admissions Office (1-800- 667-5199 or [email protected]) for information on transfer credit options.
