COURSE REGISTRATION SUMMARYUNIVERSITY OF HAWAI‘I, COMMUNITY COLLEGES

FALL 2001

In Fall 2001, there were 1,894 courses taught at the University of Hawai‘iCommunity Colleges (UHCC), resulting in 74,820 registrations in 3,593 classesfor a total of 222,135 student semester hours (SSH) and FTE course enrollmentof 14,798 (Table 1).

From the previous Fall semester, the UHCC system increased slightly inmost of the course registration measures. There were slight decreases innumber of courses, student contact hours and instructor contact hours (Table1A).

Total SSH at the UHCC system increased 1.5% from last Fall (Table 1A). Atthe campus level, SSH increased at Windward by 8% and at Kapi‘olani, Kaua‘iand Leeward by 3%. There were decreases at Hawaii by 4%, Maui by 3% andHonolulu by less than 1%.

Over the past five years, SSH at UHCC was relatively stable until a 5%drop in Fall 2000 (Table 5). There was a slight increase in Fall 2001, however,SSH was still 2% below the amount in Fall 1997. Each campus experienced adecline except for Honolulu and Windward (Appendix A3 to G3).

Number of classes excluding cooperative education (093, 193, 293) anddirected studies (099, 199, 299) increased over the past five years from 3,452 to3,593 (Table 4). Most of the increases were at the Honolulu campus where datafor off-campus credit classes were included in this report beginning Fall 1999(Appendix B-2).

The average class size (ACS) for Fall 2001 was 21, compared to 22 in Fall1997 (Table 4). Kapi‘olani and Windward had the highest ACS; 23 and 22,respectively (Table 2). Campuses with smaller classes were Kaua‘i with ACS of16 and Hawai‘i with ACS of 17.
