BACKGROUND… HUDCO’s HSMI organizes variety of activities like seminar, workshop, and conferences for internal and external professionals. India is facing the challenge of augmenting housing stock in urban areas for facilitating the construction of 10 million houses by 2022. Under this flagship scheme, PMAY-‐ the target of Housing for All has to be achieved through sustainable planning & implementation.
United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights mandated that access to decent, affordable housing is fundamental for the health and well-‐being of people. At this stage, there is a need to assess the progress of sustainable development under various initiatives, to introspect the existing institutional and organisational set-‐up for affordable housing delivery, to have mutual feedback and organise capacity building programme for the officials of ULBs which are instrumental in affordable housing delivery.
The ‘Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY)-‐ Housing for All in urban areas which envisages to facilitate construction of 20 million houses by 2022. These initiatives have resulted in an appreciable growth in the housing stock in the country as well as significantly improved the quality of life of the slum dwellers and urban poor. In addition to PMAY(U)-‐HfA Mission, other initiatives include Smart Cities Mission (SCM) for development of 100 cities, Mission for Rejuvenation & Urban Transformation (AMRUT) of 500 cities with more than 100,000 population, Heritage City Development & Augmentation Scheme (HRIDAY), Swachha Bharat Mission (SBM), and Rurban Mission, which aim at enhancing the quality of life and providing a clean environment, creating infrastructure, addressing the housing requirements of the poor and slum households.
At this stage there is a need to assess the progress under various initiatives, to introspect the existing institutional and organisational set-‐up for affordable housing delivery, to have mutual feedback and facilitate cooperation among various stakeholders towards achieving the common objective of facilitating affordable housing delivery for the urban poor.
Keeping such challenges in mind, HUDCO’s HSMI is organizing a Seminar on ‘Planning and Implementation of Sustainable Affordable Housing-‐ Perspectives on PMAY’
