Escalation Options in PEMS 2.0 Full Escalation – Notifications through Headquarters Normal Escalation – Notifications through the next
higher level only Local Escalation – Notifications to local team only No Escalation – Record keeping only

Report Emergency Screen Moved system test to the top of threat list Drop down box now requires user to select a threat
type (no default value in threat type)
Changed escalation options on ‘System Test’ to LOCAL or NO Escalation only

When Reporting Emergency, confirm emergency screen shows emergencies created in past 24 hours for review (avoid duplication)
Also added a list of users that will be contacted based on escalation option selected (no edits allowed)
Any emergency created with FULL ESCALATION requires the user to confirm that selection in a separate pop-up window

As team members “check in” to the emergency: Enhancements show time and date of check in Whether team member is checked in and available to

“Check in” is not allowed after an emergency is terminated

“View Emergencies” has changed to allow emergencies to be viewed as follows: Headquarters – view all emergencies Area EP Managers – view all emergencies All other users – view all emergencies within users

“Emergency Details” screen changes New tab named “Update Emergency SitRep” replaces
previous Update Emergency tab. -This option allows user to add information to
emergency and distribute to all users notified upon creation of the emergency
New tab named “Team Comments” -Allows user to add comments and notify local team
members only

“Emergency Details” screen changes cont. Hyperlinks named “weather” and “location” allow user
to see the facility on a map and to view current weather conditions in the area
Screen displays the Latest Update along with the SitRep History and EMT Activation Status

“Update Emergency SitRep” Similar to “Update Emergency” in previous versions. Now allows user to change threat type in BDS: From
Facility and Suspicious Mail and Unknown Powder/Substances emergencies if necessary
Each time the SitRep is created, voice and email notifications will be sent to all users on the Notification List unless escalation type is set to “No Escalation”

Documents (like MS Word and MS Excel) can now be attached to an emergency. From the Emergency Details screen click on the ‘documents’ tab. The documents will y be added to this emergency only.
Documents added to an emergency can be viewed by clicking on the ‘documents’ tab in the Emergency Details screen

Other Enhancements to PEMS PEMS User Directory added allowing a search for
users by name or location Team members can be assigned to multiple teams
and multiple roles Checklists can now have Local Items added and
removed by users (cannot change IEMP checklist items)
Added drop down to the Create Documents screen with categories (COOP, EAP, ANNEX, other)

Added Subordinate EMT Report including: Name Area and District Role (Primary/Alternate) Available for emergency? Phone numbers eMail address If user has a Blackberry Blackberry Pin number

Please explore the PEMS application and become familiar with the enhancements covered. Several changes are obvious and need no further explanation. Contact your Manager, Emergency Preparedness in the District with questions.
Other enhancements are being considered for the future including the addition of all facilities in the database, more reporting capabilities, automated weather alerts, incorporating OPSTAT system data, and updated PEMS Blackberry Application.
