Optional Windows basedOperator Station collects, displays and reports assay anddiagnostic information from oneor several networked COURIER30XP analyzers. The optionalOutocal calibration softwaremakes the calibration procedurelogical and helps in keeping theanalyzer performanceoptimized.

PROSCON Lite controller withdistributed I/O and localdisplays can be connected withthe Operator Station to controlreagent feeders and other plantequipment.

    PRIMARY SAMPLING

Well designed primary samplingarrangement is essential if theassays are to reflect the actual stateof a process. The primary samplerdirects a part of a process stream tothe multiplexer for secondarysampling. Gravity or processpressure transports the samplestream. Outokumpu has a varietyof primary sampler designs forpressurized flow from a pump, gravity flow in a pipe or launderand well-mixed vessel.

    SECONDARY

    SAMPLING

COURIER 30XP usesmultiplexers to remove air andtrash from the sample and toprovide a stable flow to themeasurement cell. Themultiplexers are organized tominimize the samplechangeover times in largesystems. While a sample of onemultiplexer is still beingmeasured, the next sample isalready waiting in the secondmultiplexer unit allowing fastmeasurement cycle for allstreams.

The swithing time between thesamples is used for the internalreference measurement. Themeasurement sequence is fullyprogrammable, so that criticalstreams can be measured morefrequently. Composite shiftsampling of all streams is astandard feature.

    ANALYZER PROBE ANDCALIBRATION SAMPLER

The COURIER 30XP usesproven, simple and dependablewavelength dispersive, fixed-angle X-ray fluorescense(WDXRF) spectrometers. Thefactory positioned and tuned X-ray crystals maintain theabsolute stability. Fullyautomatic referencemeasurement compensates forany instrument drift.Temperature control of theinterior of a cabinet furthercontributes to the highperformance.

Automatic calibration sampler atthe outlet of the measurementcell ensures a reliablecalibration, since both theanalyzer and the laboratorymeasure exactly the samesample.

    ANALYZER CONTROL

The analyzer allows a truly stand-alone operation: it does samplingcontrol, XRF measurement, multimodel assay calculation andbuffering of calibration X-ray data. The Probe Control Set is used foranalyzer operation control and todisplay assay results. The unit pro-vides an optional connection toOperator Station and/or an auto-mation system. The plant automa-tion system can be used to con-trol remotely sample bypass or animmediate measurement requestfunctions.

  • AnalyzerperformancePerformance depends on actualsample characteristics and howthe analyzer configuration isoptimized for a particularapplication

Measurement timeSelectable for each samplestream. Typically effectivemeasurement time is 15 - 30seconds per stream. Total cycletime for 24 streams is 12 - 15minutes.

Number ofsimultaneous assaysFive elements and solids contentfrom each sample.

Multimodel assaycalculationFor varying ore types theanalyzer assay calculation canbe programmed to automaticallyswitch to the best model.Criteria for switching thecalculation model is set by theuser. Outocal calibrationprogram supports multimodeldevelopment.

    Measurableconcentration range0 ... 100%

    Minimum detectionlimitFor most elements 3 ... 30 ppmin slurries, 1 .... 10 ppm insolutions

    Repeatability

The standard deviation ofrepeated measurements ofconstant sample at 1% level isless than 0.01% absolute.

RepeatabilityShort term stability is 0.1%relative under the specifiedoperating conditions. Thereference measurementsautomatically compensate for along term drift.

ResolutionSuperior resolution of crystalspectrometers (down to 30 eV )allows measurement ofneighboring elements withminimal line overlap

Accuracy for slurriesFor single measurements withtypical measurement time, onesigma relative error is typically3 ... 6% for low concentrationsand 1 ... 4% for highconcentrations. The accuracy oflaboratory assays used forcomparison may significantlyaffect these figures.

Accuracy figures obtained bycomparing filtered measurementsor long term averages are betterin most cases.
