COUNTY YMCA 2013 We Build People Campaign Branch Goal: $7,677 THANKFUL Nearly half of Edinboro residents live in poverty* A typical family needs to earn 2 ½ times the federal poverty level ($23,050) to be able to survive without any form of public and private assistance. It’s our belief that our Y is here to respond to the vast needs of the Edinboro community. Here’s how we do that: • We’re quietly working in the community to support the varied needs of families. We’ve helped fill a family’s fuel tank so they had heat on Christmas morning and we’ve helped provide clothes for families. We’ve opened our locker rooms for a family living in a car. • We’re taking up monthly collections including goods for local food pantries, supplies for other nonprofits such as diapers or shoes, and collaborating with local schools who help identify families in need for back to school supplies, groceries, and more. OUR STORY From the Christmas Giving Tree’s branches hang tags with items listed to assist local families - bedding, clothing, gas cards and the “extras” – movie and dinner cards. For one County Y family, the tree represents the generosity and selflessness that exists in the local community. Jim Seaman and his four daughters are recipients of gifts from the tree. “The true spirit of St. Nicholas is that he is the protector of all those in trouble or need. The County Y and the surrounding communities embody that spirit, at Christmas and throughout the year. We are so thankful.” PLEASE CONSIDER GIVING A GIFT TO THE COUNTY Y THROUGH OUR ANNUAL SUPPORT CAMPAIGN SO THAT WE HAVE THE NECESSARY RESOURCES TO HELP FAMILIES – NO MATTER WHAT THEIR NEED, AND, THEY’LL FEEL THANKFUL TOO. *Cited statistics adapted from Erie Vital Signs, United Way of Erie County and Horizons National.
