California 4-H is a community of young people who thrive. 4-H Thrive is an opportunity to providevolunteers, staff and youth with concrete tools that more intentionally and consistently help youth toreach their full potential. Through the 4-H Thrive process, 4-H youth will enter adulthood prepared topositively engage in society through their relationships with others, through their contributions andthrough their civic involvement. 4-H adults will have the resources, support and tools to guide youth intheir growth toward thriving.

4-H Thrive is not a new program, project or initiative, but rather a progression in the development ofpromising practices in positive youth development that clearly translates theory and research into actionto support youth to thrive. The 4-H Thriving process is intentionally focused on helping youth buildpositive skills toward success in life. It builds on the principles underlying the Essential Elements, LifeSkill Wheel and other applied efforts.

Components of 4-H Thrive include:• Identify and nurture sparks (sparks are inner passions, interests and talents.)• Develop a mindset of success. (Effort is more important than getting something right or wrong.

View challenges as opportunities to learn and grow.)• Self-reflection on indicators of thriving. Youth-Adult partnership fosters meaningful conversations

about strengths and challenges.• Establish goal setting habits.

A variety of resources and tools will be available for youth, adult volunteers and staff, including regionaltraining workshops, tool kits with equipment, lesson plans and facilitated question guides, curriculum, blogs, webinars and other media support to encourage a continuous improvement cycle, etc.

We are seeking individuals to serve on the Imperial County 4-H Thrive Team. (Two adult volunteers, two youth.) Regional training for our team is planned for March 18-20, 2011 at San Diego.(Expenses paid through a state grant from the Step-It-Up-To-Thrive Foundation.) Interestedmembers and leaders should contact the 4-H office no later than February 24,2011.

Job descriptions and more information about 4-H Thrive can be found athttp://www.ca4h.org/About/Ihrive/ I
